Lloyd will get respect when he actually wins his first away game, beats ohio state and maybe, just maybe, contend for a national championship. Don't let the Rose Bowls fool you. They come only after an early season loss that forces the team to try to always SAVE seasons. Lloyd has established a reputation for destroying title hopes at an early part of the season. He'll be a rock star when he bring title hopes back to ann arbor.

Oh, and the article. I hate writers who jump to conclusions. You're seeing this right now with "writers" who've been dying to down our program after ONE bad year. The same people who hate us, you guys, USC, Texas and others have one thing in common, they're JEALOUS.

It's really too early to tell with Weis. Second years are notorious for players and coaches. What he does next year will really matter. I happen to think he's going to suck (1st year players always get an advantage b/c ppl don't study them as much - like pitchers in baseball), but then again, I'm a little biased.

10 year contracts are always bad. ND wasn't racist. They were arrogant. They think a guy will devote his life to the football program with all that assured money? With that contract, it will be very difficult for him to live up to expectations unless he brings a championship.

I don't think so QueensNY.

The last guy from Louisville to bolt was John L Smith.

But Lloyd has bought himself another year simply because of his track record. After all, he did bring a championship here. He'll have ONE MORE YEAR to get it right. How about winning the FIRST ROAD GAME against ND. A good start. If he loses to ohio state next year, he's dead to me.

However, after the Miami purge, I don't think the coordinators are absolutely safe. If it were up to me, I'd replace the buffoon OC Terry Malone. It's lost in the discussions about our inept offense that Chad Henne runs a 4.7 40 and has a big arm. Malone is not letting the players play. But then again, LOYALTY is huge at Michigan. If a change has to be made, Carr will probably have to sign off on it.

Jealous scUM gets to play two MAC teams in Ann Arbor every year to start their season? Yes. Otherwise, don't flatter yourself. Why USC would be jealous of Michigan is beyond me. In the end, all three of us have contingents that are pretty arrogant. I've yet to meet a Michigan grad who can't stop talking about how great he is because he went there.

If anyone hates you, it's Ohio State. But quite a few of your fanbase out there on the message boards were wishing the BUCKEYES well against ND in the Fiesta Bowl. A shocking amount of them. Seems to me that there are some among the Ann Arbor faithful that consider ND a bigger rival, then, yes?. I don't think too many Ohio State fans hope that Lloyd beats ND in the annual matchup. Probably some I'm sure, but not many.

I wouldn't say Weis' second year will "suck", but there are games on the schedule that appear to be tough TODAY and could result in 3-5 losses. But we all thought that about this year's schedule. And you are certainly right about Year Two being important and more telling for Weis.

Lots of questions about ND's defense. Will Fasano come back? If Mo Drew and Mercedes Lewis go pro, UCLA won't be as good. Will all those bowl teams from this year be good in 2006?

ND plays Ga Tech and Penn State while Lloyd will get to scrimmage with Ball State and Central Michigan. It is only 8 months away, but based on that I like your chances, VictorsValiant.

Boy, what a non-conference schedule that is. Gimme a break. He'll still lose his first road game and will lose to OSU. Throw in another game that they shouldn't lose and you'll have your typical Michigan season. With as much talent as Michigan has year in and year out, you would think that they would finish with no more than 2 losses every year with a chance to win it all at least every other year. There's no excuse for them losing 5 times.

If they don't pull out the MSU, PSU and Iowa games, he's gone for sure.

By the same token, Wisconsin-Minnesota and Ohio State were all winnable losses for them.

I knew NIU would be good in the MAC, but when Michigan struggled with them I had a feeling something was wrong. They should have given them a beating.

If you're going to play MAC schools, you'd better try to pick the best possible opponent. Either that or play BCS schools.

Notre Dame is entering a world of pain playing all 3 service academies in 2006. Prepare yourselves to never hear the end of it. Never mind GA Tech, PSU, Michigan, UCLA, USC....

Well, I hate Michigan. When I was at the game this year, some inbred POS with a skunkbear tat kept screaming in my face the entire game. I badly wanted to punch him when he started jumping up and down clapping after McKnight was injured: "I hope he's out for the season!"

Then my friend and I started making fun of him, and-believe it or not-a couple of Ohio State fans at the game joined in on our side. It was a very ecumenical encounter with Columbus.

I would just like to add that I am a ND fan who DOES NOT hate Mich. As a matter of fact I LOVE them. Hell we have more trouble with Navy than MIch. To me they're just another W for ND.

Can't wait till they come down to South Bend next season for another ASS-KICKING.

Huh??? The series is pretty much back-and-forth through history, excepting the four seasons from '87 to '90 when we dominated. Oh, yeah, and the nineteenth-century when Michigan could take comfort in knowing that field goals were worth more than touchdowns.

ND 12-9-1 since 1978, year of Jigga's birth.

Series was dropped in 95 and 96. One can only guess what would have happened. Probably a split.

And another note about the schedule. At least this year, Michigan had the toughest schedule in all of college football.

I don't really know why MAC teams have been scheduled the last couple of years. But it's interesting to note that OTHER BIG TEN teams have done the same. This can only mean that there is either and implicit or explicit agreement between the B10 and MAC conferences. Of course, I don't know how the B10 benefits from these games, but that's besides the point. Maybe they schedule because it's close, or because B10 teams want more home games ($$$).

Also, the B10 is a powerful conference. If you schedule tough non-conference games, you also have to play tough in-conference games. For example, Texas and USC don't have this problem.

And a note on ND's schedule. Why don't you schedule teams that will be good NEXT YEAR, not the YEAR BEFORE (UCLA, PSU). And don't tell me ND doesn't have cupcakes (all three service academies) and average teams (Stanford, Purdue, UNC and MSU) that are very much like the Wisconsin's, Minnesota's and Northwestern's of the world. That's 9 of 11 games. Michigan has ND (if you're good next year, of course) and OSU.

And yeah, it wouldn't kill ya to beat MSU. It's not like they're any good.

One of the toughest, but not THE.

Ohio State could lay claim to that.

All good stuff here V V.

That MAC thing needs to go. The Big Ten should get out of that contract in a hurry. Only Toledo and Bowling Green are consistent. The Big East or Big 12 would provide the Big Ten with more credibility.

I agree the Big Ten is powerful. The non conference games don't necessarily have to be against major powers. Rather than the MAC, why not the WAC 10? Since we can't have a traditional Rose Bowl anymore, have a Big Ten vs. WAC 10 week.

But your third point, again...no control when they are made years in advance. You had a down year, so did Pitt, so did Tennessee, so did Purdue. There wasn't much ND could do except beat them...and they did. Soundly, with UM being the close one....and ND never trailed in that game. Penn State and UCLA won't be as good. UM will be better, but it's a home game.

It doesn't matter who ND plays, where it is or how good they are. People will find ways to determine why they don't deserve this and that. That's why I cringed when they scheduled the Armed Forces. Just not good.

And you thought this thread was dead

And you thought this thread was dead

9 NFL vacancies and no one has mentioned Weis for any of the jobs.

I think the contract extension had the desired effect.

Good point nonetheless.

Hey, who wouldn't want Mike McCarthy from San Francisco.

Honestly, I heard the name and immediately belted out "Who?".

Good thing ND got Weis before the Jets did.
