Don't preach. This is a football board, and ND got screwed and screwed themselves.

But don't preach. You are wrong on all counts.

So Quinntastic what's you expert reasoning behind the AA touchdown that was called back? If you're so embarrassed to call yourself one of us than don't. We're all VERY passionate about our Irish Football and have every right to express our thoughts, if you don't have the balls for it...then tough shit.

You absolutely have EVERY right to express your thoughts - but the excessive cussing is a bit offensive. I expect better out of ND: franchise and fans alike. I was just brought up differently, I guess.

Fans are fans. Don't tell us how to act. The bottom line is the refs screwed us and we should be 2-0 right now.

I think he did the finger over the lips to the student body section. Should not have got a flag but a little premature to say the least. It was a good game, the worst officiating was on the last pass to Tate. He was being tackled before the ball arrived. Bad play call but if it is completed or gets the flag, game over. Weis looks like a genious instead of a goat.

Still - time and money doesn't give you the right to act like savage animals about it. Cussing and throwing such a fit over such a thing is RIDICULOUS. It's a FOOTBALL game. It's a football GAME. The fact you want to spend tons of time and money on it doesn't change the fact that it's a GAME. The sun will still rise tomorrow, there will still be war, famine and disease tomorrow and there will still be a lot bigger problems in this world than the fact that ND lost to Michigan in football. A LOT. BIGGER. PROBLEMS.

So get over it. And yourself. Put your big boy panties on, smoke a joint, and relax, dude.
Everyone on this forum right now has the right to be mad. Also this is the internet where cussing a throwing a fit are allowed. I would rather people take their anger out on these boards then hitting their wives or children which in the long run is just as destructive as war, famine and diseases. Football is much more then a game and effects people a little more then you may think.

Ok..... just a game thing. Quinntastic, if you went into the locker room and told the guys to calm down, its just a game, how do you think they would react? I follow ND every day of the year, and know how hard those guys worked just to get screwed like this, after all that work, isnt right. Its flat out bullshit. Its not just a game to many people, many people have invested much of their life into it to call it just a game. Its more than that.

Are there bigger things out there? Of course, but now is not the time to be preaching about them. ND just lost, and ND doesnt take losing lightly. Period.

Exactly. Don't tell us how to feel. Were fans and were passionate about our sports teams. Bottom line is ND got screwed the whole game with non calls and bad calls. We have the right to be mad and sick to our stomach.

While the officials were subpar at best ND had their chances to blow this game open. Down 14-3, fumble, etc etc. Charlies absolute blown play calling and piss poor clock management.

Sorry Quinn, you need to save your preaching. We are a bunch of pissed off males and frankly since you are a converted Michigan fan please go away.

The play calling killed us all day!

It started on the first drive! You have Clausen, Floyd, Rudolph and Tate with 3rd and 5 inside the 10 and you run a QB DRAW???!!!
Why?

Then with under 2:30 on the game clock, you throw it? Run it twice, take as much time off the clock as possible or make Michigan use both timeouts and no way they come back after the punt. A flag should have been thrown but you never want to have to win a game because the refs made a call.

In the end, Chuck blew it! But I still believe in him and once he looks at the tapes, he will know where he went wrong. He should have been the OC this whole time instead of just calling the plays and he would have known these things by now.

Thanks and Goodnight!

Why don't you go and put your "interlect" to good use then, go try and solve some of those problems, instead of being here on a forum with the rest of us "savage animals".......

No boasting ...

No boasting ...

OK, I said I'd come back and here I am. (Not too hard when you win though.)

Personally, I admire C. Weiss a lot ... he said true things at the post game presser - ND had plenty of chances to win and simply didn't make the plays when they had to.

I read through enough of the comments from last night to see the anger at the officials ... and, sorry, but that's BS.
The last kickoff was touched by ND and the clock should have started.
Sure there was contact between Warren and Tate on that last throw from Clausen, but Warren had perfect position and had the play covered ... most officials aren't going to flag in that situation
The rest ... sorry, but when it's called by the replay officials, there's not much room for whining about it ... and a ton of dumb holding calls went both ways.

Look ... ND proved everything the folks on this form said they would ... Clausen, Tate and Floyd and company tore up UM and were dominant all day.

But there's a lot more to the game than just that.

Our special teams TD ... that counts and it kept it close in the first half.

The 3rd quarter ... it counts and our D stepped up, stopped you and our offense rolled 149 yd.s to 27 yd.s and an 11 point lead. No trickery there.

Forcier was a lot better than you expected and the D could not cover him, especially over the middle. UM showed lots of speed around the field and kids who can move the ball. They also showed poise and conditioning to play hard against a bigger team late into the game.

I admire ND overall, as a team and as a program ... and that offense is fantastic ... the D is pretty good too. But before the game, the trash talking about "if UM is stupid enough to play 2 freshman quarterbacks ...." was just plain dumb. And Allen making the "shhh" sign to the UM student section ... that was just plain dumb.

Anyway, it was an exciting, entertaining college football game between the two greatest in the game. I will not gloat, it was close and it was hard fought and it could have gone either way. Your guys played their hearts out.

And I know how much it sucks to be on the losing end of these. But ND will go on, win most of it's game and play in a bowl game this year, no question.

Yes, you "could have" won this game, but you did not make the plays when they mattered. I thought ND would win this game ... and if they played again next weekend, ND might well win that game. But UM "could have" won this game too, and they made the plays when it mattered. Simple as that.

To the "short bussers", of which you have a few on this forum ... go ahead and yelll and curse me, I truly could care less.

But to the majority of well spoken, true college football fans on Irish Envy, thanks for letting me talk football with you and enjoy the forum conversation. I salute you and your football team for playing college football and the game on saturday the way they are supposed to be played.

best,
rob

UM Fan:

This one hurts, badly.

Tate is a stud. Much better than I thought. We simply could not stop him and DickRod's offense. You guys were too balanced, and we didn't know if you were going to run or pass. We were torched all 2nd half.

Now, about the refs: We were completely hosed. If you don't believe that then you simply don't know the game.

*A horseshit phantom-call holding penalty on a de-cleater pancake block that nullified an 80 yard pass.
*A horseshit REVERSAL of a TD pass, when a dude's foot was clearly inbounds from the sideline angle. It has to be INCONCLUSIVE evidence!!! You simply cannot overturn it.
*A horshshit taunting penalty when you've been LETTING IT GO ALL DAY???? How do you decide a game like that??? Who in their right minds would do that?
*Golden Tate getting raped/mugged multiple times, with not one P.I. call against him.
*You guys finally get a meaningful holding call, but the other ref calls a phantom P.I. on Darren Walls (near the end zone at the end of the first half I believe), when your guys had been doing waaaayyyyy worse things to Tate the entire game, thus nullifying the holding call that would have forced you out of FG position.

Sorry, but a few meaningless holding calls early do not make up for the egregious refereeing the rest of the day.

I kept waiting for Vince McMahon to walk out with Triple H or the Rock; that's how bad the officiating was.

Congrats on the win though.

Just a few friendly reminders:

1.) It's just a game. Yes, I know a lot of you feel passionately for football, and I do too! But to cuss and act like savage animals is sort of ridiculous. It reflects badly on your team, and yourself.

2.) After rewinding and watching in super slo mo on my DVR, it looked as if the ND player in the backfield for the last kickoff-return touched the ball on a bounce. So while Clausen said that a second should be added, there was a brief booth review in which they found that the ND player indeed touched it and that instead of 1 second being taken off the clock, that 2 should be taken off, as another 2 seconds elapsed after the player touched it.

3.) The taunting call against ND was obvious - he was waving the ball in the face of a band member for the other team. That's unsportsmanlike and I'd expect better out of the ND football team, to be honest. However, Michigan kept their celebrating in check (meaning, amongst their players only and behind their white line)

4.) Yes, there were some BS calls made on both sides, but it shouldn't have even gotten that close. Michigan was NOT the favored winner, and the fact that ND lost can't ALL be blamed on the officiating.

I mostly agree with you. The taunting was blatant and foolish and I wasn't surprised at the flag. Frankly, I was surprised there wasn't an earlier taunting call on one of the TD passes. In contrast, the UM players handed the ball to the ref and celebrated with their teammates. The Notre Dame players lacked discipline and it was costly.

The game had a definite ebb and flow in momentum and there were times when each team had the other on the ropes and failed to deliver the killer blow.

You perhaps missed the mass orgy following the first UM TD.

The only question I have is why we hardly ever throw to Kyle Rudolph! He could be our most dangerous weapon if used correctly. Make defensive cover Tate and Floyd on the outside leaving Rudolph against a LB. 20 yard pass play every time.

Also, did you see how high Floyd got on his TD catch? Why does Jimmy think he has to throw the fade to him near the sideline, throw it up and let Floyd get it INBOUNDS!!!!

It's still sucks on Sunday Night/Monday morning!

DANG IT!!!!!!!!!

I figured we needed 17 points.

7 for big house.
7 for Big 10 officiating
3 to win

W spotted them - knew it - and failed to cover.

Before the Game I said 17 - 38 - ND.

I needed to reflect 10 for Big 10 officiating. I guess I needed to take the 7 off our score in the officiating calc.

Nonetheless - they got it done - we didn't.

If CW would have run in last position and UM still scored - we would have been criticizing him for playing to not lose.

Midseason review: Michigan
October 20, 2009 Posted by ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg

Michigan Wolverines Record: 5-2 (1-2 Big Ten)

130.gif
There haven't been many dull moments around Schembechler Hall this fall, as the national spotlight has locked on Michigan and second-year head coach Rich Rodriguez. There were the preseason allegations of NCAA time-limit violations that led to an emotional news conference by Rodriguez and an internal investigation by the school. When the season began a week later, Michigan pounded Western Michigan and showed obvious improvements on the offensive side. Rodriguez's spread system has started to click, and true freshman quarterback Tate Forcier showed impressive fortitude in leading game-winning drives against both Notre Dame and Indiana and rallying the team from a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit at Michigan State. The offense remains young but dynamic, and the defense has been prone to breakdowns but also tremendous performances from cornerback Donovan Warren and end Brandon Graham. After a 4-0 start, the Wolverines dropped consecutive games and Rodriguez drew some criticism for pulling Forcier late against Iowa. Michigan likely won't challenge for a league title this year, but there still will be plenty of excitement in Ann Arbor down the stretch.

Offensive MVP, QB Tate Forcier -- Without Forcier, Michigan likely would have a losing record right now and the heat would once again be rising on Rodriguez. The true freshman was brilliant down the stretch in wins against Notre Dame and Indiana and even in the loss to Michigan State. He has played through pain and shows an unusual fearlessness on the field despite a small frame. Honorable mentions go to running back Carlos Brown and backup quarterback Denard Robinson.

Defensive MVP, CB Donovan Warren -- It's a close call between Warren and Graham, but the junior cornerback has carried a very suspect secondary on his back. Warren is tied for the league lead in passes defended (10) and ties for second with three interceptions. Graham certainly deserves some love with 12.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and a forced fumble. Honorable mention goes to walk-on safety Jordan Kovacs, who ranks second on the team in tackles (45).
