For what it’s worth - and it’s not much - The Sporting News has a mock draft in it’s latest issue. It’s easier to pick lotto numbers than to predict the NFL draft but the you have to give TSN credit for trying. Best thing about it is that it is completely free of all the pomposity and self serving bullshit associated with the four letter network. Just the sight of Mel Kiper makes me so angry that I want to kick puppies.

According to TSN only three Irish players can expect to be drafted - Tuck (2nd Round) and Goolsby (4th Round). TSN has Grant listed as 7th round pick but he may not even be selected.

That is probably the biggest indictment of the previous coaching staff. The inability to develop players resulted in poor play on Saturdays and no play on Sundays.

At least the guys got an education.

.

I think Collins will get drafted, he had the fastest 40 time for Tight ends in the NFL compounds, and he's a very good athlete.

Curry may get drafted, he 'll at least be a free agent pickup. I think Grant goes in the 5 round, he was very impressive in the compounds too.

I believe that the Irish will get 4 players taken in the draft:

2nd Round: Tuck
5th Round: Goolsby
7th Round: Collins
7th Round: Grant?

That is my take on things for what its worth.

Good call KMac. I think these four go. Even Grant.

I guess Collins was very impressive at the combine. We'll see what happens. Tuck and Goolsby are hands down in. Collins will probably get picked before Grant does.

Looks like Tuck should have stayed in school, #74 pick overall is not very good, this kid could have gone as high as early 2nd Round. Another year in school would have helped the 2005 squad and his draft stock.

If Tuck can't make that NYG defense, then he made a huge mistake. I can't see him not getting on that team and playing.

He should have stayed because of his injury. Durability is so huge with these drafts.

I see nothing wrong with getting selected on the first day if you're an underclassman.

Looks like Collins stock rose a lot #144 overall to the Rams, he should be a good fit in that offensive scheme that the Rams run.

I would have thought Goolsby would have been drafted. Otherwise, Tuck and Collins were the only ones worth taking. Grant, Pauly, Holiday and Goolsby might catch on as free agents.

I bet Tuck is the only one still in the NFL in three years.

Despite a couple problems, I figured someone who take a flier on Derek Curry. I think he, Goolsby and Holliday will be in camp somewhere. I see Holliday playing in the Arena Football League... I think he could be a standout there.

Yikes! My thoughts exactly. Evidence of the lack of talent development that was taking place.

Bingo. When I saw 2 players from places like Cental Michigan taken in one round, all I could do was laugh.

Tuck and Collins were worthy of being picked. I'm surprised Goolsby was left undrafted. Grant and everyone else wasn't exactly a shocker.

Holiday will get into a camp. Curry is probably too small, Grant too slow.

Holiday in the AFL makes perfect sense.

The cowboys picked up Goolsby. Greg Pauly signed with the Bears. Ryan Grant has signed with the Giants.

At least we did better than Penn State, they had no players drafted. USC had 5 players drafted. Ohio State had just 3 players drafted.Oklahoma had the most players drafted with 11....

Believe it or not Stanford had 6 players drafted...

Looks like TY saw more in Ryan Grant than the entire WORLD.

Ryan Grant was a good back when healthy, just not always used in the best situation, in a lot of ways reminded me of Lee Bectin, not blazing fast or bruising but got the job done.

It appeared to me that Grant would go down immediately when hit with no forward yardage --- Becton would get an extra 3 yards after he was hit -- I have always felt Becton was the most unsung RB of all time at ND -- he had an outstanding Senior Year -- that cannot be said of Grant

Bectin had a very very very sub par senior season, you are probably remembering his junior year in which he rushed for 1,000 yards in 1993. He had an injury prone senior season in 1994 which limited his ability.

whoa, whoa...easy. i work for central michigan university. ;-)

i would expect that kelly (cmu's second year coach), having won a couple D-II national championships, might produce one or two draft-worth guys from a mid-major.

but you're right. if cmu is producing a similar number of drafts as ND, something is clearly amiss...

Tuck will be w/ the G-Men for a while, but he won't play right away unless there's an injury (which is a possibility after what happened to Strahan last year). The Giants are pretty set at end w/ Strahan and Osi Unmenayoria (or however its spelled). I love this pick for my team b/c, obviously, I love getting a Notre Dame player and especially one I think has real talent like Tuck, and he gets to sit and learn from Micheal Strahan for the first couple years of his career. can't ask for a much better mentor at DE than that, and in a couple years when Mike retires or gets cut for cap reason hopefully Justin Tuck can come in and play.

Tuck is certainly better than Matt Roth of Iowa, now a Dolphin. He will see the field. Strahan should be coming to the near end of his career.

Holiday signs with Arizona. We've had some guys sign as free agents Goolsby to the Cowboys, Grant to the Giants, and Pauly to the Bears.

I think Goolsby has the best chance to make a team, Grant will land somewhere, but not with the Giants, they have Barber, plus some kid they drafted in the 4th round, and Cloud who performed well last year. Not sure if Pauly will make it, Holiday has no chance IMO....

Goolsby would have to have the worst camp of his life not to make that Cowboy defense. Maybe he could play special teams.

mea culpa -- you are correct on Bectin -- can you tell i am frustrated with Grant -- especially when Ty has Julius and Darius in the backfield but chose loyalities with a disappointing Grant.

Well in all respect Darius saw a ton of action last year over Grant, and Julius had problems on the field and in the classroom that really limited his action and his career at ND.

Grant to Walker was Becton to Kinder/Farmer. Situations were very similar indeed.

While were on that subject, switching to a different topic....Bettis, Zellars, Edwards....ND always had the stud Fullback. Remember Mike McNair? Guess he just had too many injury problems and never panned out.

Goodspeed was pretty good. He's in the NFL. Who is the next ND fullback?

Asaph Schwapp. The kid's coming in this year and is a beast. I don't know that he'll run the ball like Bettis, but he looks like he could be a devestating blocker. He's pretty athletic too, so he should be a nice option out of the backfield for Quinn. 6" even, 240 lbs and runs a 4.65 40. He'll be fighting for playing time behind Powers-Neal this year I guess, but in a year I think he could easily be the starting fullback and a force as both a blocker and a reciever out of the backfield.
