NFL Draft (ND guys)

Scout came out with there draft preview. Some ND guys were ranked pretty high.

Justin Tuck was rated the 4th best DE and the 20th best overall player. Good job Tuck!

Jerome Collins was rated the 6th best TE. Wow I'm surprized to see this guy rated so high, I knew he had talent, but Ty really wasted that, like Davie wasted Givens talent. Most Draft sites have Jerome rated in the top 10 at his position, good job.

Mike Goolsby was rated the 7th best MLB. Goolsby will be a stud in the NFL he has the size the strength and the speed, not to mention he's a tough son of a bitch. I think he'll get drafted in the 3rd round. A good combine and he may go in the second. Whoever gets him he will be a steal.

Ryan Grant rated the 20th best RB. I don't think he'll get drafted but he'll get a shot somewhere. he could be a solid third down back.

Billy Palmer 30th TE
Budinszak 29th DE may get drafted, great size, nice project player
Ellick 40th CB How on earth is he even ranked
Clark 20th TE
Curry 30th OLB, I've seen him listed in the top ten at his position on other sites. this guy is to good not to get drafted.
Holiday not ranked, he'll get a shot, won't be drafted though.

All in all I see ND drafting about 4 to 5 guys, 3 for sure. 3 to 4 other guys will sign on as free agents for about a total of 6 to 8 guys to the NFL, which is about the same as last year (7 players).

So ND should be in the top 5 to top 10 again this year with players going to the NFL.

It's a bit corny but what's even better is that the other graduating seniors will move on to careers outside the NFL. As we all know most schools don't educate the players like ND

Mike Goolsby is AWESOME I hope the Chargers make a run for him. He has the potential to be one of the great ones.

Budinszak is also good. I llok forward to watching him play.

Its a shame about Collins. He difinetly should have been utilized more, it seemed like everytime they took Fasano out they put in #1 I beleave he is a freshman. I do not know why they didnt get the Senior some time.

Oh OK well I did not know. I know they still put a freshman in front of a senior, not sure what his name was then. And that is my point.

huzzah, huzzah! i'd love to see another ND man on the bolts. we haven't had one since joey goodspeed played kickoff coverage a few years ago, and before that it was one loooong dose of john carney.

Yeah the year after the chargers gaught slaughtered by SF in the Super Bowl, John Carney pretty much was the only scoring power SD had. I think that is when he broke the record for kickers. I forget which one exactly maybe most consecutive FGs.
They should have kept him in SD.

Mike Goolsby? Want he the one in the pitt game who went for the ball instead of the player lol. I know he is good but that mistake cost us a game and cost ty a job.

Do you ever think before you spew?

So after all of your 700+ nonsense posts about Ty being a bad coach and what not, you're now saying that one play by Mike Goolsby cost Ty his job? So it wasn't Ty's fault at all then?

Glad we cleared the air!

Well- we have read the quote- now letsee what Weis is REALLY ALL ABOUT- this isn't New England! Will the ND faithful have "faith" in Weis, and give him the mandated "three years" to win- we shall see....The jury is out until Weis "proves" that he can win on this level. Let's not hand him the C.O.T.Y. (Coach of the Year ) award just yet. How many wagon jumpers will there be if he starts out (1-2)?

Good post but your thoughts about Ryan Grant are completely unfounded......he has no speed and no hands and could never get the extra 1/2 yard (never mind an extra 2 or 3 yards)

There is a real good chance ND and C-Dub will be 1-2 because of the road schedule early.........the real question is if they lose do they play competitive football (like in Holtz's first year) or do they get blown out like TyWillies teams. This will determine alot with the alumnae and subway alums. Also, this team returns a 2 year starter at QB, entire O-Line, and a great RB in Darius so I expect alot of success as they move through the season.

have to agree, but i honestly think he'll get drafted. in my opinion the guy had a great knack on finding the holes and with a good offensive line in the nfl, he could make a difference.

not to mention the fact that one player and one play is never and never will be an excuse for winning or losing a game.

No, Ty cost Ty his job. There can only be one person that can held responsible for their actions.

irishgo8, that play didnt lose us the game!!!! did you forget about the 3 missed tackles after goolsby tried to get the ball? and the defense had a sgot of at least holding them to a field goal. lee from pitt just made a great catch man!!! goolsby did a great job this year and he has alot of heart. i bet if he heard you say that he would bounce you off your head. LOL

You won't be any fun until you actually respond to the objections raised.

And where have I heard these statements before?

I was at the Pitt game. A horrendous pass defense coupled with 3, maybe 4, third down penalties that resulted in first downs lost them the game. But back to the topic at hand rather than more Ty puking......

Tuck will be a contributor. Goolsby should be a solid backup. Holiday should get into a camp if he doesn't get drafted. Same for Grant.

If an NFL team drafts Ellick, I will lose a great deal of respect for that team.

Scouts must be smoking something if they think Ellick is any good. He played hard and all, but he and Jackson are not D 1 corners.

Jerome Collins will be drafted because he has loads of talent. He could be a Gates type TE. Not known but loads of athletic ability.

I'm surprized to see him rated so high, he really didn't do much at ND, but when you saw him out on the field you could see he had talent.

As for Goolsby I really think he has a shot at being a nice NFL player. Physically he's fine, Strong, good speed, and he certainly has the guts to play in the NFL. I thought he had a nice season for the Irish, especially considering he missed his JR season, he came back and looked good, no rust.

Curry we land somewhere, Mel kiper has him rated pretty high, at his position. He looked good against the run, and could get to the QB. He was great in the Navy game I remember, he had a ton of tackles and some sacks.

Who did Lorig end up signing with?

still un-decided -- it appears the only decision he has made is it will not be ND.

How can it honestly be so difficult for you to say something useful? Do you honestly think this statement makes sense to anybody? Do you honestly think this helps the conversation in any way?

weisfan were did you hear this from? The sources i am reading all say that Lorig is still deciding between ND, Stanford, Cal, & USC. I would think in the end he would go Stanford or ND. He had said he wanted a team with tradition, it doesnt need to be a champ, a rebuilding team is fine, but with a strong coaching staff. Below i lined out the way he should pick based on those wishes.

He wanted Tradition: ND, USC, Stanford, Cal
Doesnt need to get in the championship run: ND, Stanford, Cal, USC
Wants a strong coaching staff: "Their Coaching Staff is second to none" - Ray Herring on Notre Dame's coaching staff.
Education: ND, Stanford, Cal, USC

Overall:
Notre Dame: A+ or A
Stanford: A- or B+
Cal B- or C+
USC C+ or C-

Which should he choose? HMMM....

Ok bro, for the 100th time, Lorig has said ND is out of it. His words not mine. It appears to be down to Cal, and UCLA. Perhaps you should get a membership to IrishEyes, or Rivals, if you want this costly info...Then you would have read about ND being out of it.

Here is Lorig's quote

Quote:
"I'm not going to Notre Dame," he declares. "Though they were very impressive and have a great staff and school. I'm still looking at the other four, and I'm just going to come out with one school when I'm done."

This is old news now. He ain't coming, wish he were, but he's not.

For those of you still interested in where Lorig will land, it's being reported on Cal boards that he has committed to Cal, and will announce tomorrow.

Cal has put together a great class, stealing Deshaun Jackson from USC, and now landing Lorig gives them a top 5 to top 8 class.

Cal better enjoy it, I don't' see Tedford staying there much longer....
