theres always a couple surprises in the combine. maybe bruton surprises a few and gets more people to come see thier proday workout. maybe then it can help more scouts see crum and the pother seniors

I never thought Crum was all that good. Yeah he may have been a captain but when it came to game time for the most part I was dissappointed. I expected great things from this guy and just never really saw him excel on the field. He's kinda slow too. I hope he does better in the NFL if he makes it.

A lot of notre dame players are underrated because of bad coaching over the years. But if you look at a lot of NFL teams, there's quite a bit of starters/borderline stars who are ND alumni.

Steroi...oops Beer... oops (Supposed to look past that unless it is an ND athlete involved...)

The Associated Press: Ohio St. OL Boone arrested in California

IMO Crum was an average athlete, probably great human being. But an example of the current ND hypocrisy (or stupidity) of wanting cake and having. Ain't gonna happen.

ND needs to let football happen.

Media needs to balance the act. Lay off of ND.

To be honest with you, and as much as I hate losing, I'd rather ND have a team full of character guys like Crum and lose some then have a team full of... I don't know, say someone with the talent but character of Pacman Jones and win every game. Ideally, we do have both or maybe a slight step down from the character of Crum but with more talent and win a ton. Everyone doesn't have to be a choir boy, but it is possible to have good guys also be great athletes. I really do think it's possible. I don't think it's a matter of hypocrisy. Brady Quinn was a great individual as well as a great, great football player.

As for the combine, yea, it helps with exposure, but if you look at a lot of the ND guys who are having some decent success in the NFL now, plenty of them were free agents or late draft picks... Ryan Grant and Chinedum Ndukwe come to mind.

All he has to do is run a 4.4. That automatically earns him a first round draft pick by Al Davis and the Raiders.

I think Crum is completely underrated. How can you say he was just a decent player when he lead our 10-3 '06 team in tackles. And who can forget last year's game against UCLA when he had an FF, FR, a sack, at least six tackles, and he scored a defensive touchdown. It was by far one of the most incredible individual performances I have ever seen. Which ever NFL team gets the services of Mo' Crum will be getting a player who does what he is told and works his butt off to get it done. I really am going to miss him.

actually it was one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and one returned for a TD, 7 tackles with one sack, and two interceptions. I will always remember him for that game. He was a stud for the most part and a sound tackler, but was overshadowed most of his career by flashier guys like zibby and ndukwe.

Thanks for the correct stats Classic! I could not remember the interceptions for the life of me. I was at this game and it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and also the best reason I have ever had for passing out from drinking far too much Jameson!

Crum had his All-American moments (UCLA 2007), but other games he would disappear. Never could figure it out.

Thank you. You simply CAN'T disappear when you man the middle of the field. Too important. He actually had one game, and damn I can't remember which one, where he actually recorded ZERO tackles! As a middle linebacker! Not even an assist, a half tackle?!? My friends and I still laugh that it has to be some sort of record for a middle linebacker (now, having said that, I do remember that we were hammered, so I may be 'mis-remembering' and he might have had a tackle).

The point is, Mo Crum is a GREAT human being, and the kind of guy I'd want my son (if I have one) to be like. As a football fan, he was just an average linebacker for ND. He wasn't great, even though he had some great moments. On the contrary, he was the anchor of some bad ND defenses. Not his fault, but he certainly wasn't the type of player to carry a defense, which is what a healthy B. Smith can and will do.

I don't see him as a pro at all, but hopefully goldenisthytate is right and he'll have a successful pro career. Whatever the case, post-football career the human race will have a great person coming into society...

heres hopefully something that will motivate crum to get better. he is too slow, too small, and doesnt have the greatest instincts either. He wont make it in the NFL. JMO, but i know it is many other peoples opinions as well. Think he is a great guy and all, just not the caliber of player the nfl has.

Right now, Crum's NFL stock ran out. HE came into the season as a 5th rounder, but will now be undrafted realistically. Part of it is that his numbers were down this year, and the other is another crap season by the Irish. We really should have been at least 8-4 maybe 9-3, and he just fell out from under the radar this season. Crum is a great guy, and a great football player. Physically, he has some work to do, but I have no doubt that he can achieve what he needs to make it in football. I would guess that if he doesn't go very late in the draft, that he will probably be signed or maybe go play in Canada. So, I would watch for him to be a role player or maybe a 2nd MLB in a 3-4 five years from now or so. If he doesn't make it with football, he will be a leader in whatever he chooses to do. Maurice Crum is a great guy, and I wish the best for him.

As for Bruton.... WOW. I don't know why, but I amazed with this guy's potential. It sounds stupid, because it's like he did good for us, but he wasn't phenomenal. I just see size, speed, quicks, hops, and a physical DB who likes to crack skulls. Charlie always said that the scouts were overly excited for Bruton's arrival to the NFL, so we will see. But, I think he is going to do great. Ndukwe grew into a solid NFL player, but I expect more from Bruton... Pro Bowl? Super Bowl? I don't know, but I hope he lands in the right system because this guy's NFL potential is scary good.

I think the Irish will be better defensively this coming year at the LB spot. You do not say that after losing a senior at LB unless he just was not that good.

I think Crum will do surprisingly well at the combine....... and I think he will be a great special teams player at the next level. Very much like Tommy Z!!!!!!

very good point...... I am amazed at all the ND guys in the NFL........ Zibby is an excellent example of someone who really wasn't highly thought of coming out of college.... but he did tear it up @ the combine and is now with the Ravens. Probably could start in 2 years.

this is actually slighlty true... the tommy z comparison. in the size and strength regions. WHICH IS BAD BECAUSE ZIBBY IS A SAFETY, CRUM IS A MLB! plus, i actually think zibby is stronger, and we all know he is quicker/faster. Like I said before, Crum's area he needs to do work on if he wants to get to the NFL: size / strength

He had the second longest standing long jump, and a top 5 vertical of everyone at the combine.
