next year is going to be fantastic. I think we will surprise a hell of a lot of people. Experience is a great thing to have, but in today's age it is not a necessity. Freshmen making an impact on the field is becoming more apparent every year.

Agreed.

I have said it before, we will exceed expectations next year. I think greatly.

I am sure it will be, as usual, very difficult for ND to exceed expectations. There's a tradition of over-ranking ND in the preseason just so they can be under-ranked at the end of the season and told how they did not deserve all the attention.

Next year will be very exciting to watch as a die hard fan. Specially to watch all this young talent grow and make big plays, and regrettably let up the big plays. But to know these are the Wies' guys and they are all underclassmen is really something special

I also think that next year will be very exciting. I am looking forward to seeing some of frosh and sophs contributing. Now that we have allen i am really looking forward to seeing him on the field.

If we had gotten that bigtime DT from Oklahoma last year, switching to a 3-4 would be a no-brainer. I just dont think we currently have a big enough NT to pull this off.

well, switching to a 3-4 would require DT/DE hybrids on the outside of the line, which we don't have at the moment. I think we're more than a few pieces away from the 3-4. I also see T. Smith on the inside, but I don't think he's ready to take the lead of a defense yet, which is a perfect situation with crum returning, who can move back outside but still be the brains of the D. One guy i've always been waiting to see on the field is vernaglia. i know he got hurt midyear, but anyone know if he's had trouble moving to linebacker? he's got the size and speed to excel. he's in my mind as the dark-house, surprise player for next year. i'd also like to see morrice richardson get off the line and back into a LB position. i think that's his future. some people have mentioned schwaap in this thread, and i don't think anyone truly appreciated how much his absence was missed in the running game this year. mcconnel filled in nicely, but i don't think CW had the confidence to use him as much as he would've liked. i'm looking forward to Aldridge progressing, and I see schmidt being the short yardage back next year. Schmidt and Schwaap in the same backfield? they could demolish buildings together let alone a measly defense. the one guy i can't seem to place next year is T. Thomas. I don't like him at LB, and i don't think there's enough room in the backfield for him either. could we see another position switch for T. Thomas... strong safety? poor travis, he's going to have played every position besides QB before leaving nd. how about sergio brown at FS? sorry if this is a bit jumbled, but these are my ruminations on next year.

I'm a bit more optimistic about next year. While the beginning of the schedule could be rough, I have a feeling by the end of the year we are all going to be Jazzed about the future of this program. Charlie can coach, and the talent is coming in.

The future is BRIGHT:cool:

You don't think enough of the talking heads will be saying how young we are and how tough our schedule is that there is no way we will win more than 7 games? I can see that guy who is on the 4 letter network (I forget his name, he argues with Holtz alot - not that I watch them anymore) saying, "ND will start the season 2-4." Enough of the ND haters ranking us think the same way and we get a low ranking, etc. Kinda like Charlie's 1st year which surely exceeded expectations. Maybe not, but I am hoping we are ranked about 20-25 next year preseason.
