well, switching to a 3-4 would require DT/DE hybrids on the outside of the line, which we don't have at the moment. I think we're more than a few pieces away from the 3-4. I also see T. Smith on the inside, but I don't think he's ready to take the lead of a defense yet, which is a perfect situation with crum returning, who can move back outside but still be the brains of the D. One guy i've always been waiting to see on the field is vernaglia. i know he got hurt midyear, but anyone know if he's had trouble moving to linebacker? he's got the size and speed to excel. he's in my mind as the dark-house, surprise player for next year. i'd also like to see morrice richardson get off the line and back into a LB position. i think that's his future. some people have mentioned schwaap in this thread, and i don't think anyone truly appreciated how much his absence was missed in the running game this year. mcconnel filled in nicely, but i don't think CW had the confidence to use him as much as he would've liked. i'm looking forward to Aldridge progressing, and I see schmidt being the short yardage back next year. Schmidt and Schwaap in the same backfield? they could demolish buildings together let alone a measly defense. the one guy i can't seem to place next year is T. Thomas. I don't like him at LB, and i don't think there's enough room in the backfield for him either. could we see another position switch for T. Thomas... strong safety? poor travis, he's going to have played every position besides QB before leaving nd. how about sergio brown at FS? sorry if this is a bit jumbled, but these are my ruminations on next year.
