From the box score it looks like he made a couple of solo tackles ...

You remember the hit he put on Calvin Johnson last year?!? One of the best hits ever!

Johnson hit was one of the best hits ever...I could watch that over and over. I watched most of the Cinny preseason games and he had several good plays on defense and on special teams...got burnt one time REAL bad against Detroit but has the makings of a good NFL safety.

I'm happy to see him in the NFL, and not our our team anymore. Safeties shouldn't get burnt so many times, and he did a bunch. He was too keen on coming up and hammering someone. The Bengals used him in many blitzing situations last night, and played almost all man coverage (because they know he can't cover 1/2 or 1/3 of the field).

valid point stonebreakerwasgod :) They just can't rely on him to help corners in zone or man-zone situations. He would've been a great linebacker in college.

I have a hard time faulting any DB's play under Minter. In the very brief Corwin era, pass D seems much improved. (maybe at the expense of run D, we'll see). Either way, hopefully the days of giving up 60yd TDs on 4th and 50 are over.

Junkhead - I agree. Big plays have been painful, and I see us stopping those more with Bruton. Zibby still scares me, but he's a SS and shouldn't be deep in coverage. His attempts at tackling on the punt return last week sucked, though.

I don't think the DB's were a Minter problem, but maybe coverages were too complex. I still don't care for Lewis as DB coach. I don't care if he was an NFL coach...If I see a safety get burnt on deep coverage, it's all on him. They call the position "Safety" for a reason.

Thanx man, who the hell did you piss off to get the red rings of death on your rep bar?

Not sure on the red rings. I don't even see them. I barely post, but have been feeling compelled to wallow with my fellow Irish fans. It's been a painful 2 games.

Thanks for removing them, whatever they were!

Did anybody watch the MNF game last night? Was Ndukwe really playing linebacker?!

If I remember the numbers correctly, the Bungles only had 4 LBs active for the game due to injury. 1 of those 4 was picked up off the free agent wire earlier this month, and another signed pretty much off the street a week or so ago. Of the 4 active LBs, only 1 was a starter in game 1 this year.

Then 2 of those 4 were injured during the 1st half - one had a torn achille's I believe (season) and the other was poked in the eye (game.) So they were left with only 2 LBs on their active gameday roster after the second guy went out.

From what I saw, they tried to use Nedu and one of their other safeties as tweeners to compensate. When Nedu had to step up to the 2nd level he did OK rushing but that's about it.

Looks like he's got 8 tackles in the two games he's played in ... not too shabby.

Yeah, overall he's actually played alright from what I've seen of him. Possibly even good enough to work towards solidifing himself a starting position on that struggling defense.

That he and Richardson have made so much of their NFL stints just goes to show you what a dud Minter was. He did have some talent back there ...
