Looking at Notre Dame's depth chart, here are the five best players on the roster that would rank among the best at their respective positions heading into the season:

Brady Quinn
Rashon Powers Neal
Anthony Fasano
Ryan Harris
Brandton Hoyte

I think Darius Walker and Maurice Stovall could get onto this list. Victor Abiamari's potential is unlimited. Trevor Laws could also have a big year.

Powers Neal could be an NFL draft pick within the first two rounds. Fasano should be a Mackey Award finalist.

My five are...

Brady Quinn
Darius Walker (Under used last year)
Rhema McKnight
Anthony Fasano
Victor Abiamari

I know Ryan Harris is good but I can't put any O-lineman on the list yet until I see some improvement. RPN is good but he hasn't been used enough for me to tell if he is great.

I think that Matt Shelton does not crack the top 5 list, but should make honorable mention. Hands down the best deep threat we had last season and probably the most reliable receiver (along with Mc Knight) that saw time. I think I would agree with Irish Hawk and include Abiamari on the list. This kid has unlimited potential and hopefully will fill the void after Tucks departure. Walker has the potential, but needs to get the ball between 25 - 30 times a game.

Harris is a four year starter, by far and away the best ND lineman. He's an NFL player all the way.

RPN will be utilized this year much more. His pass catching ability will be a huge asset. He'll be one of the top fullbacks drafted come April.

I agree with irish hawk on darius walker. waaaay underused last year. RPN is tough as well. I think he'll go high in the draft as well (in the fullback spot, of course, not high overall.)

The jury is still out on Powers-Neal. Having him ranked in the top 5 is a big stretch based on what he has done to date. Last year he rushed for 28 yards on 13 carries and 10 catches for 72 yards. Let's hope he can fill the shoes but look out for the frosh from Hartford CT (Schwapp)to push RPN.

I think that John Sullivan is an All American this year.

I like Powers Neal. Don't forget the spring game he had. He is going to get some looks at tailback in Weis' offense and will catch more passes, too.

Stovall and McKnight will benefit from Weis' offense. Stovall could be an NFL first or second rounder with a big year. He shed the weight Weis asked him to and should be ready to roll.

Let's say I am skeptical on RPN. Spring Games don't mean alot to me -- i sure hope you are right bc we need him to be a physical force. I miss the days of a Bettis/Anthony Johnson etc.

I really agree on your Stovall/McKnight assessment. They do have talent that you can't miss.

Powers Neal rates up there with NFL scouts. I'm going by what I'm reading out in that sector. I think Weis will utilize him AMAP in many facets of the offense.

Stovall's stock will fly in this new scheme.

Mark it: RPN will be the first fullback drafted in April.

This scheming offense will do wonders for him in the rushing, receiving and blocking departments.

Stock up.
