Louisville stays on the 1-line even with this loss. What it does do is significantly lower the chance that both ND and Louisville are 1 seeds by season's end.

#6 Irish Post Best Quarter of Season in 97-47 Win over Boston College
Shepard and Young each record double-doubles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 6 Notre Dame women's basketball team posted its most prolific quarter this season en route to a dominate 97-47 victory over Boston College (14-11, 3-9) on Wednesday night. All five Fighting Irish (23-3, 10-2) starters finished in double figures for the eighth time this season, led by double-doubles from Jackie Young and Jessica Shepard.

Shepard tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds, marking her second double-double in three games. Young collected 15 points and 10 boards, earning her fifth double-double on the year.

"I thought we rebounded well and got the break going," Karen & Kevin Keyes Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw said. "We could score in transition and we're hard to stop. That was the best part of our game."

How It Happened
The Irish started the game on an 8-0 run over the first 1:21, while all five starters got on the scoreboard by the 4:21 mark, building a 17-4 lead. The Irish defense held Boston College to without a field goal from 7:30 to 1:54, as Notre Dame finished the period up 22-11.

The Irish went on to outscore the Eagles, 29-11, in the second quarter as Turner, Ogunbowale, Shepard and Young all boasted double digits by the half. In fact, the foursome combined for 46 of the team's 51 points, as the Irish were up 51-22 at the midway mark.

The Irish defense posted another impressive stretch in the second quarter, ending the last 5:01 on an 18-4 scoring spree, limiting the home team to 7-of-31 shooting for the half (22.6 percent).

After two missed shots to begin the third, Notre Dame caught fire, finishing the period 15-of-17 from the field. The Irish outscored the Eagles, 37-7, marking the most points they've scored in a quarter this season. In addition, Notre Dame notched a 23-0 run from 6:53 to the 3:03 mark.

Heading into the fourth with an 88-29 advantage, the Irish cruised to the 50-point victory. Ogunbowale earned her ACC leading 16th game of 20-plus points with 23 tonight. In addition, Ogunbowale surpassed Associate Coach Beth Cunningham for second place all-time in scoring with 2,324 points.

Turner was nearly perfect from the field at 9-for-10, resulting in 19 points to go with her three blocks and six boards. Lastly, Mabrey finished with 12 points, which included two three-pointers, thus tying Sheila McMillen for the No. 2 spot in Notre Dame history for career treys with 249.

Stat of the Game
Tonight completed the home-and-home sweep against Boston College with Young and Shepard recording double-doubles together in both games.

Notes
  • With the win, Notre Dame now leads the overall series, 24-5, against Boston College, with a 10-4 mark on the road.
  • Irish move to 87-5 all-time in ACC play since joining the league for the 2013-14 season.
  • With 23 points tonight, Ogunbowale brings her career total to 2,324, which is just 33 points back from tying Skylar Diggins-Smith for Notre Dame's all-time scoring record.

Reminder: Irish have a clear bag policy for the 2018-19 season and moving forward

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Two of the top-4 teams in the ACC standings will come to a head on Monday evening on national television, when No. 6 Notre Dame women's basketball travels to No. 12 NC State on Feb. 18. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET inside Reynolds Coliseum, airing live on ESPN2. The Irish lead the all-time series, 6-1, but look to avenge a loss two seasons ago at NC State.

CHASING SKYLAR
Senior guard Arike Ogunbowale is closing in on the Notre Dame all-time scoring record. First off, Ogunbowale surpassed the 2,000 career point milestone on Dec. 16 vs. Binghamton, becoming the fifth player to do so, joining Irish greats, Ruth Riley, Katryna Gaither, Beth Morgan and Skylar Diggins.

Ogunbowale just surpassed Morgan this past Wednesday for the No. 2 spot and is within striking distance of the record, entering Monday's game with 2,324 career points - just 33 points back from Skylar Diggins (2,357).

RPI TOP-25 WINS
With wins over Gonzaga, Drake, Iowa, Marquette, Louisville and now Florida State, the Irish boast six RPI top-25 victories and six top-25 ranked teams, which continues to lead the country.

IRISH SHARPSHOOTERS
The Irish currently boast four players in the top 60 in shooting percentage, all shooting over 50 percent.
14. Shepard - 60.4 percent
15. Turner - 60.4 percent
31. Young - 55.2 percent
59. Mabrey - 51.9 percent

The two towers of Shepard and Turner have proven to be a dangerous combination down low, ranking 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the ACC in shooting percentage (1st & 2nd in ACC play only).

In addition, Young continues to be the most efficient guard in Notre Dame's arsenal. Her .552 shooting percentage ranks 4th nationally among just guards.

As a team, the Irish are shooting 51.5 percent, which ranks third in the country, while Iowa takes the top spot at 52.4 percent.

WHO'S HOT
Jessica Shepard has achieved 10 straight games in doubles figures. Furthermore, Shepard has earned double-doubles in two of the past three games.

Freshman guard Abby Prohaska has garnered nine steals over the last five games. Her 1.8 steals/game in that span ranks fourth on the team.

TURNER BLOCK PARTY
With 18 blocks over the last four games, Turner is averaging 4.5 blocks in the month of February. Only Alexes Bryant of Texas A&M CC has a better total (23) and average (5.75) this month.

Turner has collected 35 blocks over the last nine games, which included her season high of five four times in that span.

Turner is averaging 2.7 blocks per game, which leads all players in the ACC and ranks 10th in the nation. In addition, she is averaging 3.3 blocks/game in league play.

Turner is currently chasing Notre Dame great Ruth Riley for the all-time mark (370 career blocks), sitting with 334 blocks heading into Monday's matchup.

NO. 3 ON FIRE FROM THREE
Over last six games: Mabrey has converted 21-of-38 (.552) from beyond the arc - In that span, only two players have made over 20 treys and have a higher shooting percentage --> Maine's Parise Rossignol and Oregon's Erin Boley.

Mabrey tied the best stretch of her career (2016-17 season) with 3 straight games of 20 or more points from Jan. 27-Feb.3. She shot a blazing 16-of-23 from three, connecting on 69.6 percent.

Mabrey has raised her season three-point shooting percentage from .425 to .466 over the last six games. That number ranks 7th in the country. Mabrey has also raised her three-point field goals made per game from 2.3 to 2.6, which ranks 5th in the ACC.

Lastly, Mabrey's 249 career treys ties Sheila McMillen for the No. 2 spot all-time at ND. Alicia Ratay holds the record with 262.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES BY A GUARD
Jackie Young has made an elite list in the lore of Notre Dame guards. With 15 points and 10 boards at Boston College on Feb. 13, Young achieved her fifth double-double on the year and 10th of her career. Her 10 double-doubles ties Krissi Davis for third most all-time by a guard. The top two spots belong to Lindsay Schrader (17) and Niele Ivey (12).

Louisville remains a No. 1 seed despite loss to Miami

Charlie Creme
ESPN.com 9:15 am 2/18/19

The NCAA women's basketball selection committee revealed its top 16 teams just a week ago. Since then, two of the teams the committee designated as No. 1 seeds have lost. Both fell at home.

That's the kind of season it has been in women's college basketball. No one is safe.

On Thursday, Missouri went into Starkville and upset Mississippi State 75-67, holding the second-highest scoring offense in the country 20 points below its average. Miami stunned Louisville on Sunday, completely outplaying the Cardinals in the fourth quarter.

So where does that leave the top teams in the bracket?

The Bulldogs slip to a No. 2 seed, but their 92-64 blowout win at Texas A&M on Sunday indicates Mississippi State's drop could be temporary. The Bulldogs are still in the hunt for a No. 1 seed.

The tricky part is determining the final two spots on the top line, especially following Louisville's stumble. Baylor and Oregon look firm as the Nos. 1 and 2 teams overall -- the Ducks play at Oregon State on Monday (ESPN2, 9 p.m. ET). Louisville, UConn and Notre Dame are competing for the other No. 1 seeds, and they're profiles are nearly impossible to decipher. The fact they each have a win and a loss to each other makes the evaluation difficult. But one of them has to be a No. 2 seed.

Through Sunday's games, that team is still Notre Dame. Louisville gets the nod because the committee established the Cardinals as the No. 2 overall team a week ago. Notre Dame was No. 6. Louisville's hold on a No. 1 seed took a hit Sunday, but dropping the Cardinals to No. 5 overall seems too much at this point with just the loss to a good Miami team.

And in order for Notre Dame and Louisville to both be No. 1 seeds, the Huskies would be left out. But the committee had UConn at No. 5, ahead of Notre Dame, in its reveal, and nothing has changed as far as those two teams are concerned.

But keep an eye on Notre Dame. Should the Fighting Irish beat NC State on Monday (ESPN2, 7 p.m. ET), that would give Notre Dame four RPI top-10 wins. The Huskies and Cardinals have combined for just one. And UConn also has significantly fewer top-50 wins than the other two, and not as strong a schedule.

Determining the No. 1 seeds right now is not easy -- and it's a decision the committee is probably happy it doesn't have to make just yet.

Does anyone play a schedule as difficult as ND's?

According to realtime rpi, we have the #1 SOS and Stanford is #2.
They have the SOS broken into points.
ND's is 0.6581
Stanford's is 0.6270.

That's a huge difference if you look at the points for the top teams.
We easily have the toughest schedule in the country and it should remain that way. We have two top 15 RPI matchups still to come in NC State and Syrcause.

Rice ranked for first time in school history; Baylor remains No. 1
12:37 PM CT
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Buoyed by the second-longest winning streak in the country, Rice entered The Associated Press women's basketball poll for the first time in school history.
The Owls have won 15 straight games and are ranked 25th in Monday's poll.

Baylor remained the top team in the country, garnering 26 of the 28 first-place votes from the national media panel. Oregon moved up to second, getting the other two No. 1 ballots. UConn was third, while Louisville slipped to fourth after losing to Miami on Sunday. The Hurricanes made the biggest jump, moving up six spots to 14th.

Notre Dame was fifth. Mississippi State, Stanford, Maryland, North Carolina State and Iowa rounded out the top 10.

Drake joined the rankings at No. 24, while Rutgers and Michigan State fell out.

Here are some other tidbits from the AP Top 25 this week:

ROUGH WEEK TO BE RANKED
Fourteen of the Top 25 teams lost last week, including seven to unranked schools. That tends to happen a lot in conference play where teams know each other better.

MOVING ON UP
One week after getting ranked for the first time in school history, South Dakota climbed up to No. 23. The Coyotes won their lone game, routing Western Illinois 83-61.

TOP 25 SHOWDOWNS
There are a bunch of big games this week, starting Monday night when Notre Dame visits N.C. State and Oregon plays at No. 12 Oregon State. Later in the week, No. 16 Kentucky plays 13th-ranked South Carolina and No. 17 Arizona State visits Stanford.

Elissa Cunane Picks Up Third ACC Rookie of the Week Honor
Wolfpack center scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in win at #16 Syracuse

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman center Elissa Cunane of the ninth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (22-2, 9-2 ACC) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The award is Cunane's third such honor from the conference this season.

Making the first start of her career, Cunane scored 22 points and grabbed a career-and-game-high 12 rebounds in a 77-73 Wolfpack victory at No. 16 Syracuse on Feb. 13. She shot 7-11 from the field, went 1-1 from three-point range, and converted on seven of her nine free-throw attempts.

For the season, she is averaging 21.1 minutes, 12.6 points, and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 106-178 (.596) from the field.

Cunane has also been named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10 and Jan. 28 of this season. In addition, she earned USBWA National Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 29.

Muffet interview:

Unhappy with ND offense, too quick with the shots. Need to take their time.

Asked how to stop Cunane, "We need to make her make a layup. At least make her work for her points.
