looking at the players we have and are getting i cant help but think that we are starting to have the talent and speed that you see on those SEC teams. the ability to fly to the ball and punish players is starting to emerge. The team spead is getting incredibly faster and is going to make a difference. What do you think?

We could always get a SEC DC.

Alabama's Joe Kines is probably available. I doubt Rodriguez, if he accepts, will keep him.

I'm real interested to see what Cleveland does with Crennel at the end of the year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I heard that Crennel was the lowest paid coach in the NFL. You gotta think that if Cleveland fires him, he might just head on over on I-80 and join CW. How awesome would that be?!!

It'd be awesome, but he'd have an NFL job in a second.

This is what ND needed to do for years. If they are going to compete with the big boys, they need to get speed players from SEC country. Unfortunately, I feel like the Sugar Bowl is just going to show us how much speed ND needs. LSU is the one team I had hoped ND wouldn't draw in a bowl game.

The SEC is a semi-pro football league. All of those teams are so fast and talented. LSU might be the most talented team in the nation. I would love to see ND stacked like they are, especially at positions like RB and the secondary.

the two teams that beat us this year did it with great defensive speed and skill. flying to the ball and punishing the carrier is something that we will be doing very shortly. I can't wait to see some of our defensive players being considered for awards with our offensive players.

They went .500 in their bowl games last year. That's a pretty week semi-pro league.

Tell that to the SEC team that we played in our last Sugar Bowl appearance.....when we were "overrated" and "undeserving" and there was no possible way we could handle the "speed" of the SEC. Chomp Chomp.

I totally agree. watch the SEC everyweekend and they are byfar the one team that looks and plays as vaery phyiscal. More so than any other team we have faced. I can only hope our offense does not come out flat and we are not forced into 4th and go for it situations.

I still don't understand how people continue to buy into the SEC dominance propaganda. If their SEC speed was so overpowering how come they are still mediocre in their out of conference match-ups. Are their teams good? Of course. But this terrible fear of SEC teams is completely undeserved. All the other powerhouses go after each other every year. tOSU v Tex, ND v USC, Michigan v ND, FSU v Miami, Okl v Oregon. Who does the SEC go after? Cal. Either that or they throw their perennial bottom feeders and mid-carders to the lions(USC v Ark, Vandy v Michigan, Kentucky v UL). UF plays FSU. That's about it. Everyone else sticks with other SEC teams because they get the built in excuse of "well, this is the greatest conference in America" if they lose. Unfortunately, the media buys in. The SEC will earn my respect when their BIG BOYS go out of conference against the other BIG BOYS...and actually win.

Gaining your respect?

Gaining your respect?

Would winning in the Sugar Bowl gain your respect? Probably not, but I figured as much. It's not hype. Believe the SEC is the real deal, and as far as out of conference goes. How about you join a conference.

The SEC is as real as any other conference...it's hard to tell how good or bad they are. I don't think we will know until some of the bowl games play out.

As for a conference...lol...we don't fit in any one conference...it would also hurt our Strength of Schedule in general.

Notre Dame Football will join a conference once it is unable to compete. That would be the best reason to go into a conference, to hide from tough schedules.

What is the deal with the schedule change in '08' or '09'. Was this just talk, or is this going to happen. I'm sorry, but one of the reasons that I have been a Notre Dame fan for so long was that they don't duck the tough teams. I was a little sick THIS year watching Army, Air Force, North Carolina. It totally let the Irish down when it came time to play USC. If another team such as Tennessee or Florida St would have been on the schedule later in the year, I think that the Irish would have been better for it.

Back to the topic at hand.. I don't think we should be getting this excited about our team speed just yet. Yes, we are recruiting faster players and a lot of them are from the south but make no mistake about it, we will not have SEC speed for a long time. Team speed isn't made up of just skill position players. One of the main reasons the SEC is so fast is because they have fast backers and d linemen. These teams take safeties that run 4.4's and turn them into outside linebackers. They take backers that run 4.6-4.7's and turn them into d linemen. Until we have players with this kind of speed, we are jumping the gun a bit.

i agree. i think that the defense in the SEC is awesome. i think that offense in the SEC is awful. i am not impressed with any offense in the whole league. put USC/UM/OSU in that league and they would dominate.
