I was up at the game yesterday and just wanted to say I thought that the crowd was really good and into the game eventhough the players weren't on the sidelines. The D played huge yesterday and eventhough everyone gives Lambert hell he played a pretty damn good game overall. I have some pictures that I would love to share here on Irish Envy I just have no place to host them right now...I might be able to in the next few days. Our seats were great only about 10 rows up from Jeff when he scored the game winner. One final note, I will respect UCLA fans with the upmost respect as I sat next to a couple of them and they were knowledgable and respectful fans, so kudos to them.

I thought the Defense played quite well except for 2 or 3 plays. The ND game didn't get on TV until halftime here so I "saw" the first have through CBSsportsline GameTrack and WestwoodOne Radio when I finally found it on the net. I didn't see the defenders bounce off the wide receiver TD until late night highlights.

Interesting hearing your comments on the fans being in the game. From posts during the game (from people obviously not there) it seemed like the fans were all sitting on their hands. I've never thought NBC audio actually represented fan involvement.

Except from the last drive when we seemed to 7 or 8 guys defending against the rush, UCLA's D appeared to me to dominate our OLine and pounded Quinn. Our D didn't appear as dominating to their OLine but the UCLA QB got knocked down and hurried almost as much as Quinn particularly in the 4th Q. Both QBs should be spending a couple of days in the whirlpool. What are your observations on the OLine play?

As for your pictures, you could email them to Svoboda and he could post them.

Well for the most part I thought the fans were MUCH improved over the Stanford game, the fans did sit on their hands when the offense was on the field...I am sorry but 8 plays inside the oppositions 10 yd line right in front of me and we walk away with 3 points is downright terrible. But everytime the D came out on the field or made a play that place got loud. I think towards the end it really affected UCLA and their communication. I was really pleased with the crowd for the most part...still too many rich bastards there that don't care. I have over 250MB of both pictures and videos from yesterdays game...so yeah.

But that's what Charlie asked for at the PSU pep rally....and he did it in a sort of condescending fashion to the effect of:

"When they have the ball, make as much noise as you can"
"When we have the ball, be quiet"

You know the voice....the one Charlie uses when he's kinda perturbed at having to answer the same question repeatedly.

Yea the fans aren't supposed to make noise when the home team is trying to drive and win. Or at least not a lot of noise. I thought, just watching it on TV, that there was a buzz through the stadium when ND had the ball two times late to try to win it. And then the crowd was crazy when the game was won.

When your offense has the ball, you like a "buzz" in the stadium. When the other team, you prefer a cacophony.

I was just meaning that when the offense left the field there were almost some boo's raining down on the terrible play. People would rather have seen the D out there for 60 min then have the O come back out.

I was a little disappointed in the student section as a whole although when it really mattered we got loud. But I think part of that is that quite a few students were still on break, so there were lots of non students (although still ND fans) in there. But in the end it sure was loud enough.

Having been a student at ND, I never quite understood why people at ND stadium make a lot of noise when ND has the ball. I remember many people having to tell others around them to be quiet when he had the ball. The noise level almost appears to be the same whether we have the ball or not. Weird.

Grew up with SC and UCLA fans, no matter who's dominate or who's not and so on, when it comes to loyalty, knowledge and respect for the game, they are ABSOLUTE day and night...

no further explaination should be needed
