IUB: Ditto the kudos expressed above. I appreciate the time and effort you expended to put the recruit summary together. It will be interesting to see how the final results match up with the summary. Look forward to seeing you on ESPN...You are as good, if not better, than most of the analysts they have.

The original 40 Uncommitted now down to 38 Uncommitted as Brendan Moore commits to Michigan. OSU did not offer, Moore did not wait, so he is off to Ann Arbor. Still at 100% with 2 down, 38 to go.

19) Brandon Moore- TE- Like Ayles, no spot on the roster, even if Brandon continues to express interest. Moore is probably hoping for an offer from OSU, which he is likely to accept. Otherwise, Georgia, Michigan, and Miami seem to be his favorites.

The original 40 Uncommitted now down to 36 Uncommitted as Brandon Newman commits to Notre Dame, and A.J. Alexander commits to FSU. Still at 100% with 4 down, 36 to go, although I would expect the 36 to increase as the evaluation period comes to an end, and the June 2 camp is completed. Also note that 20 of the remaining 36 uncommitted are on the Rivals 100 list that was published yesterday.

From the first post:

12) Brandon Newman- NG- The prototypical NG for CB’s 3-4 Defense, Newman has received more attention from the ND coaching staff than just about any other recruit. CW visited him on 4/25 and CB was there to visit him this week. Newman is not that highly regarded on the recruiting boards, but CW and CB must see something very special in him. He was expected to commit at the B&G game and when he did not, many Irish fans figured he was a lost cause. However, all of the love appears to be paying off as Brandon has scheduled another visit to South Bend at the end of this month, and if things go as well as expected, he appears likely to commit to ND at that time.

2) A.J. Alexander- ATH- A.J. showing no interest in ND despite a recent visit from CW. He is expected to head south to the SEC or ACC.

Not much happening on either of those fronts. See Floyd in the QIR Top 25. Everybody seems to think that it's between ND, USC, and FSU for Butler, with USC currently in the lead. However, the USC in the lead speculation is mostly based on an article by a USC recruiting guy who used quotes from a visit Butler made to USC before he came to South Bend, so I don't put much stock in that. I think Butler is telling the truth when he says he is wide open, but IMO ND is going to have a tough time here. If I had spare money to wager that I didn't care about losing and had to make a bet today on Butler, I would put my money on his Dad's school, FSU, but that is based only on a feeling, nothing else.

And then there were 35 as Andrew Sweat takes a dump at pOSU. I'll count this as going 5 for 5 as my original note, see below, did not have him Irish. I guessed PSU, but that must have been a typo,, and besides that was three whole weeks ago, a virtual lifetime in the recruiting saga of Andrew Sweat. Well, apparently not as Sweat was OSU all the way and just layed a little Habernesque scenario on the Irish. Anyway PSU, pOSU, what's the difference if he's not Irish.

24) Andrew Sweat- LB- Sweat is now planning on making his decision after the end of this month. By all recent accounts his favorites are ND, OSU, & PSU. Interestingly enough both OSU & PSU message board fanatics consider Sweat to be a lock for their respective schools, while virtually no one on the ND message boards take Sweat seriously as a possible ND recruit. Given the roller coaster recruiting trip that Andrew has taken, maybe he will pull a June surprise and pick the Irish. Uh, no I don’t think so. My guess is PSU ends up as the choice.

The original post was before Baldwin came to campus, where things started to turn around. I would no longer say that Baldwin is a long shot, but I am not convinced that ND is in his Top 2, which is the latest rumor going around. Baldwin in combination with either Floyd or Butler would really solidify this class, but at this point in time the way the WR recruiting is going, I'd be happy to get at least one of them.

15) Julio Jones- WR- May be the best Wide Receiver in the 2008 class, but has no interest in ND. NEXT!!

Who is confirming this offer?

Even with the chance he's got one, this is pissing up a flagpole trying to recruit this guy.

Or so I am told of him.

At one point in time, (around 2/26) Scout had Julio as having an ND offer, and he was added to the Irish Envy Official Offer list without any further confirmation. He is not on the Rivals or B&G list, and Scout no longer lists him either, so he should be taken off this list as well. I'll send a PM to GG to change his thread tag & offer status.

And then there were 34 as Julio Jones who ND had no shot at anyway, apparently does not even have an offer. Probably would have been a waste of paper to send him a written offer.

13) Omar Hunter- DT- On the surface, it would appear that Omar falls into the same category as Holmes, but I do not think that CW would have visited Big Omar last Wednesday if he felt that ND had no chance at all. He lists his Top 5 as Notre Dame, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Michigan, with Michigan still in the lead, and expects to make his decision in September. Big Omar also broke his leg yesterday, I wonder where there they found enough plaster to make that size cast.
Big Omar becomes the first of the other 25 prospects to select ND, bringing the list of the uncommitted down to 33. I have a feeling that Omar will not be the last of the 25 to pick ND as the Irish are in the Top 3 of #8, 9 & 10 on that list, Forst, Goebel, and Gray.

Speaking of those three has anyone else noticed that this seems to be the year of the letters C-G for the Irish. Look at the status of the recruits offered by ND in that letter range.

Cave- ND Commit
Clelland- ND Commit
Crist- ND Commit
Cwynar- ND Commit
Fauria- ND Commit
Filer- ND in Top 3
Fleming- ND Commit
Floyd- ND in Top 3
Forst- ND in Top 3
Forston- ND in Top 5
Goebel- ND in Top 3
Golic- ND Commit
Good- Oklahoma Commit
Goodman- ND Commit
Gray- ND in Top 3

15 recruits, 8 commits, 5 other strong potentials, 1 other in Top 5, 1 committed elsewhere. It's only early June, but just sweeping the F's (Filer, Floyd, Forst, & Forston) would almost certainly give the Irish a Top 5, possibly a Top 3 recruiting class in the class of 2008. Keep it the F up boys!

And then there were 32 as Xavier Brewer commits to Clemson. Brewer has seen his stock fall even quicker than George Bush in the last few months, from Rivals 100 to a run of the mill 3 star, from comparisons to T.J. Bryant to comparisons with GWB, oh, how the mighty have fallen. Anyway, Brewer seems to have fudged both his offer list and his 40 time, so he had to settle for Clemson. Not a bad gig though, Death Valley is not the worst place to play, and the procession to the stadium on Game Day, although not as storied as the ND procession, is quite enjoyable for a whole different reason.

6) Xavier Brewer- CB- Along with T.J. Bryant, Brewer is one of the elite (scratch that) CB’s in the nation who have both received an ND offer, and are also showing absolutely no interest in that offer.

Now that the 40 uncommitted is down to 32, where do the Irish stand.

Chancey Aghayere – ND is in his Top 5, probably #5, might as well be #500, unless he makes an Official Visit in September, which he may do “if he has the time.”

Blake Ayles – ND no longer in the picture, the feeling is mutual.

Jonathan Baldwin – ND in his Final 6, probably will be in his Final 3.

Brendan Beal – ND no longer even in his Top 6 according to Scout. The feeling is probably mutual.

Robert Blanton – The next Irishman.

Arthur Brown – It’s been posted that Oklahoma, Miami, and USC are his Top 3, but those are the 3 schools he plans on visiting soon. His last official list had 22 schools, ND was one of them.

Jeremy Brown – Seems to be 50/50 with ND & Florida. I don’t believe Urban will accept a commitment from this kid in September or October, so that gives the Irish a slight edge.

T.J. Bryant – Never any interest in ND.

Brice Butler – Does not have a cut list yet, but latest info seems to say that ND is currently 3rd in a three dog race with USC & FSU in the lead. However, there is no confirmation from Butler about this except to say that those three schools plus LSU will most likely be in his Top 10 when he makes a list.

Steven Filer – Filer has no cut list, but the rumor boards say it’s ND against the Big Ten flavor of the week school. One week it’s pOSU, then scUM, then Wisconsin, now the Zookster Travesty. The one thing that is constant is ND, so I’ll stick with them for now. As Jiggafini says, Filer or Bust!!

Michael Floyd – ND is one of 10 schools on his official cut list. However, conventional wisdom is that it’s between ND, Minnesota, and Florida.

Art Forst – Not much news from Forst since his last Irish visit. ND is in his Top 3, with Florida & Rutgers. Should be a ND/Rutgers battle at the end.

Marcus Forston – Last Forston list that I saw had ND in his Top 5, and very interested. However, Forston may not be getting as much love from the ND staff because he may have not been the highest rated DT on their list.

Garrett Goebel – ND in Final 3. Consensus seems to be that ND & scUM will tie for 2nd on this one.

Cyrus Gray – Gray has a Final 11, which he is calling a Final 10. As GG said that must mean PSU is a lock here. ND is one of the 11.

Shayne Hale – Hale is considering 11 schools, but his Top 4 are pOSU, scUM, Florida, and oh BTW, Notre Dame. When I first saw that, I got a hearty chuckle out of it, but he is actually visiting ND next Monday, so who knows.

Will Hill – The Thrill is gone as ND does not make Hill’s final 8. Looks like the Poodle, the Cockwad, and the Free Shoes guys have the inside track here.

Khaled Holmes – Not sure why this guy was even offered, except maybe to break the Poodle’s balls.

Josh Jenkins – DITTO to that with Jenkins, although at least there is comic relief with this one. Jenkins swears to all the WVU fans that he is solid with the Mountaineers. They just have to understand that he wants to take advantage of all these opportunities to visit these great campuses. Yep, and I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale. Hello Josh, if you wanted to go on all of these lovely visits, why didn’t you just wait until you were done with them to commit to WVU. It would have saved a lot of angst for your home state fans.

Ethan Johnson – Although Johnson is not saying anything, it looks like USC vs. ND on this one. ND gets 2 opportunities (unofficial & official visits) to try to impress the top DE on their list.

Kapron Lewis-Moore – KLM has not cut out any schools, and ND would seem to have a shot if they can get him away from the Texas & Oklahoma schools that have offered him. He has talked about making an Official Visit to ND in the Fall, which should help.

Dan McCarthy – Danny has a Top 5 list of scUM, PSU, pOSU, ND & Stanford, but all indications are that it’s a 3 team battle between the Irish, the Buckeyes, and Stanford. McCarthy may be visiting ND again this weekend.

Sam McGuffie – Last word out of the Flying Burrito’s mouth was that ND was in his Final 13. HA HA. However, Buckeye Grove (yes, McGuffie is still trying to get an offer from the Buckturds) posted a story last week where Sam listed only 10 teams, and ND was not one of them. Oh well!

Martavious Odoms – Odoms has very little to say about his recruiting, and although at one point he said that ND was the only school that he could think of that had offered him, the Irish do not seem to be showing him much love.

Kenneth Page – Page has not really listed any favorites, but he always mentions Notre Dame when talking about his recruiting, and the Irish would definitely seem to be in the mix here. He is on the record as saying that ND will be in his Top 10 when he formulates a list. He is also planning on making a lot of unofficial visits this summer including one to South Bend.

Matt Patchan – Rivals still has Patchan down to 8 schools, but more recent info suggests that he is down to 4, either way ND is on both lists, with the Final Four being ND, LSU, Miami, and Florida. Still it would take a minor miracle to get Patchan out of Florida, although he is planning an unofficial visit to South Bend this summer.

Terrelle Pryor – ND is in his final cut of 11, and the only school in the 11 that is recruiting him as a WR, a position that he says he does not want to play in college. You decide what that means.

Etienne Sabino – Sabino is going to summer school in order to try to graduate in December, but is still talking about coming to ND for an unofficial visit this summer. He has not made an official cut list of any kind, but when he does the Irish are expected to make the list as ND is always listed as one of his favorites. At one point, this was thought to be a UNC/ND/FSU battle, but FSU was not on a most recent favorites list. However, the other 2 of the Florida Big 3 were.

Darrell Scott – Notre Dame did not make Darrell’s Top 10. :(

Jaromis Slaughter – ND is in the Final Three here with LSU & scUM.

Carlton Thomas – The Big 3 continue to ignore Thomas and even though the Poodle has offered, USC is not one of his favorites. His most recent list had 7 favorites and ND would seem to have as good a chance as anybody at landing Thomas. Thomas will probably make an Official Visit to ND in the Fall.

Ryan Williams :whoknows: The true mystery man of the remaining 32. Now that the Thrill has finally spoken out, Ryan Williams is the highest rated recruit on the ND horizon who has failed to give any indication of where he might be thinking about going to college.

Summary of the 32 IMO

Who’s out- (7) Ayles, Beal, Bryant, Hill, Holmes, Jenkins, Scott.

Who’s highly questionable- (4) Arthur Brown, McGuffie, Odoms, Pryor.

ND in Top 5, but unlikely- (4) Agahyere, Goebel, Hale, Patchan.

Still a possibility?- (2) Butler & Forston.

Definite possibility- (6) Baldwin, Gray, Lewis-Moore, Page, Sabino, Thomas.

Best hopes- (7) Jeremy Brown, Filer, Floyd, Forst, Johnson, McCarthy, Slaughter.

Next commit- (1) Blanton

Who knows?- (1) Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams – The true mystery man of the remaining 32. Now that the Thrill has finally spoken out, Ryan Williams is the highest rated recruit on the ND horizon who has failed to give any indication of where he might be thinking about going to college.

Many believe it's a two way battle between VaTech, and ND but it's still hard to tell because both Ryan and his family are being tight lipped about his recruting process. Wow, what a concept.
