There's a poster from the South Bend area on II who heard a South Bend radio station announce that Demetrius Jones was arrested May 17th for possession of marijuana. Anyone here heard anything over here? I sincerely want to believe that this isn't true, but I thought I should ask...

Easy, cheetah. Let's not throw anyone under the bus until there is more on this. Still, this really sucks and I hope it is dealt with appropriately. You know it won't be long before this is plastered everywhere and the shit-storm of ND haters gets whipped up about hypocrasy...

This sucks. No wonder why there is a rumor about him looking at UT. Will this have any effect on the top 2 QBs in the next few days?

Well, I guess the consensus pretty much is that the quarterback race is down to 3 at this point.

Notre Dame is gonna have to be as open and transparent in meting out punishment as they can be.

notre dame is rarely open and transparent about punishments, so i wouldn't count on it.

also, i think at this point, it's unfair to jump to conclusions and make assumptions about who is committed to what.

I'm surprised figuring this happened a week ago that its not all over the internet. i cant find it anywhere else besides the link that was provided. i think that is kind of odd. also, do you think this is linked at all to the rumor he was going to transfer to UT.

While I feel sorry for DD he certainly understands the consiquences especially after the Kyle incident. This will be the biggest test of his charcter. Does he rise above, and overcome, or does he fall? I wish him the best, it's gonna be tough. Looks like the race for this year is down to 3. Stinks, we really needed him with our young OL. This is a huge missed oppritunity for him.

WSBT is a very reputable station in South Bend. they wouldn't report it unless it was true.

I'm sure Jones will be removed from the team. Powers-Neal was suspended for the season for a DUI or DWI (don't remember), so I'm sure that the same will happen with Jones. In any case, It didn't seem like he would be the starting QB, but this was a horrible way to completely rule himself out of contention. Our QB depth is down to three now (well, if/when he is suspended) so let's hope our O-line blocks for our non athletic QBs.

Well IUB, this may open a scholarship after all and maintain the '22'. I never saw it coming this way, but it's reality...

I'd be surprised to see DD on the team this year, atleast active anyway. Charlie really pushed the whole character issue, which he should, and this is a clear and direct violation of how he wants his players to represent themselves, Notre Dame and the football program. Weis will come down on him hard and I would not doubt that a transfer may be coming.

Very true, but still unfortunate.

I'm not sure ND will take a lot of heat for this. From the radical anti-ND fans, sure, but they do not have to have a reason to hate, they do it every day anyway. However, the media probably will not have a field day with this because it is a misdemeanor pot charge, with no violence or indication of dealing. Also, ND took more heat from the media over the severity of Kyle's punishment than the act itself. Assuming that DD is looking at least at the same punishment, I doubt if the media will create a great outcry over this. The only difference is CW likes to keep the punishment aspect more in-house (e.g. Powers-Neal) so what happens next may not be as obvious as with Kyle, until DD does not show up for practice in August, or transfers out.

OK...I am not saying players should get special treatment but I live in Columbus and my nephew has been with OSU football players on 3 different instances where columbus police and campus police turned the other way when it comes to players. Do local police just hate ND or is it just me? My guess is Weis and Brey will not be donating any time or money to the local police association lol. Weird that it just happens to be an african american QB that was arrested...my guess is Clausen or Quinn would of been let go!!!!!

Make no mistake about one thing, DD will not be a part of the ND Football program in any way, shape, or form, for the 2007 season, that much is certain. What is not certain is whether his career at ND is over, and that is most likely going to be up to him alone. I do not see CW or the University expelling him in light of the Kyle precedent, too much worry over potential legal liability will prevent that from happening. However, there are more subtle ways to make someone leave if that's what they really want, and CW can be a very subtle guy if he wants to be.

That may be the biggest piece of racist BS I have ever heard on Irish Envy. Unbelievable!!

That may have been the stupidist thing I've ever read on this board. He broke the law, he will be punished for it, the same as Clausen or Quinn would have. It doesn't surprise anyone that in Columbus they turn their heads, that's what make them who they are, and by not turning our heads, make ND who we are.

IUB,
I think the university would have no problem kicking-out DJ if the situation was the same as KMac's. DJ got caught with pot as did kMac but I think KMac also was driving under the influence which made his situation worse. Believe me, if it were apples-to-apples between these situations, DJ would get exactly what KMac got.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. My point is that KMac is being allowed to come back, and although DD will certainly be suspended, it is very unlikely that the punishment will be permanent expulsion.

I'm just really disappointed. i would hope that DD takes his punishment and stays to finish what he started. He seems to be a classy kid. He made a mistake and I'm sure he's going to pay for it. Lets not bash the kid too much, after all he is a kid. Go Irish!
