This is where I stand on the matter...I would be interested to see what others think.

Basically, all year the team has won...and that's what you want. But very few times have they performed as well as last year.

Now we have a legitimate chance to get to the top spot and play the Suckeyes again. This gives me some consternation since they are clearly playing at the top of their game.

HOWEVER, if we beat USC DECISIVELY then I would say we deserve a shot. If we don't I think another BCS bowl would be good.

USC is NOT a #2 team in any regard. They have been lucky in many cases. They are a top10 team...but not #2.

Shoud we pound them, I say go for it... If not, I am more reticent.

I have to agree.... I still belive the skunkbears are better than usc...
It will a test of legitimacy for ND against usc, and that will determin if we deserve to play the NC game...

I could not argue against Michigan getting another shot at OSU. But I'd be happy for the chance ourselves.

I'd love for us to pound SC and go to the national championship. But is a championship a reality? I doubt it. If we beat them, I cannot see any way of us jumping Michigan. Probably jump Florida and Arkansas, but not Michigan. So a solid #3 is to be expected if we beat SC.

"Deserve" has nothing to do with getting in the NC. "Deserve" will always be subjective. The BCS is set up for who the system works the best for, not who deserves it. ND "deserved" to be Champions in 93, but the popular chorus was "well, the polls are all that matters, so they aren't the champs." If ND gets in the NC this year, they don't really deserve it, but unfortunately "deserve" rarely plays a factor in college football.

I'd rather see anyone play OSU for the title than Michigan. They had their shot at #1. They lost. It's someone elses' turn. We could play the "who beat who" game all day. The only thing we know for sure is, Michigan lost to the #1 team Ohio State. Period.

OSU and Mich are the two best teams in the country. This "they had their turn" crap is BS. They are the top two teams period. They deserve a rematch.

Notre Dame has a shot at the title game if they beat so cal by 2+ td's. That will prove that they are a different team than the one involved in the michigan debacle. It is the same situation that arkansas is dealing with. The win over Auburn proved they aren't the same team that played USC. For the Irish to have a chance to get in, they must win in a convincing manner. Also, we dont' have to hear about michigan or ohio st playing another game this season till the bowl game, so ND will be in the spotlight all week. A good performance will put them in the title game and the voters will remember this game more next sunday then the ohio st michigan game.

If ND ends up playing in the championship vs. OSU and, dare I say, wins, it would create a BCS crisis scenario. Because people could definitely justify Michigan, OSU, and ND as national champions because it creates a win loop. UM>ND>OSU>UM. And you could justifiably vote any of the three ways. I know the coaches are bound to the BCS, but the AP isn't. We'd probably get a split championship.

I think any talk of ND going to a title game is very unrealistic. The new coach's poll shows that the only person that wants or believes ND deserves a title shot is probably CW. I would have had hard justifying how ND would deserve a shot over a one loss Michigan. Best case, we go into our bowl game at #3 and win our BCS bowl. Lets just beat the holly hell out of USC and see what happens, but I really don't see ND getting a shot at the title unless we beat USC by 28 in LA. Even then, who knows if that would be enough. By the looks of some of the voting polls I have seen online, fans don't want to see a rematch of osu/mich, but the most of the press people do.

Just shows me that people just looked at the score of the ND/mich game, and didn't really see how ND played that game and the way ND has improved since that game.

Guys, what it comes down to is that the voters will not have the guts to put Notre Dame above Michigan, I hate to say it, but we're not going to go to the National Title game unless we completely blow USC out of the water. The voters just can't put us above UM.

And if Michigan wins next time, let's have them play again, right? Why don't we just skip the rest of the games and have them play the damn NC now? Stop being such a sheep and believing everything they tell you on ESPN. If you don't think USC, UF, ARk or even ND have the ability to beat either of these teams, then you're an idiot.

Don't tell me UM is the without question the 2nd best team in the country. The only good team they beat was ND, who you believe isn't a real contender for the title. The only other good team they played was OSU, AND THEY LOST.

ARK and especially USC(if they run the table) deserve a 1st shot against OSU(who they haven't lost to yet) before Michigan gets their 2nd friggin chance.

Face it people, The best spot were going to get in the bcs is #3. And that's if some major things happen. I see us playing in the sugar bowl against Arkansas. There's been way too much Bias against us all fucking year and the system (let alone the coaches) does NOT want to see Notre Dame in the National Championship. I know there's alot of you out there who put together there little formula about still having a shot at the title game but it's just not going to happen and you should just deal with it. Go Irish against the Razorbacks in the Sugar Bowl.

I want ND in the title game. Deserving or not. The fact of the matter is that the only way to right this ship is with a playoff system.

truer words were never spoken...

A playoff should be the way to go.

If you want a playoff you got it... it's called the NFL... don't let the CFB door hit you on the way out....

Give me the Rose Bowl on new years day and a true champ... which the BCS gives us... (as true as the steelers were last year).... give me life, happiness and the BCS way

Regardless of what you think about the rematch, it is a fact that putting Nd ahead of a team they lost to (resoundingly) to play OSU is more of an injustice than having the rematch. The inarticulate OSU players understand that. If you do have a rematch, the NC can still be split if we win.
