Wah! Wah! Wah! It's so funny going to the espn U-Dub board reading how fans are crying about this. It's not like they didn't get helped by a phantom roughing the snapper. It's not like ND got screwed against UofM on Allen called back screen pass.

I figure you delete it.. I don't post anymore on the espn ND board on the account to many trolls hang around it and it's one big flame fest. The funny thing is I found this site from a USC troll who lurks this board in an agrument we had over recruit a long time ago on the espn board..

If I recall correctly, roughing the snapper started due to defenders beating the crap out of the snappers when they had their heads down on long snaps. I thought it was primarily called when a defenders used the center as a launching pad jumping up on the center's back to block kicks. I vaguely recall an ND LB (Bolcar?) was very successful with that technique. It was banned by a new regulation a season or two later.

Williams did hit the center in the facemask with a forearm but it was inadvertent. On the replay Willams and the center have stood each other up after the snap, then Williams brings up his arms to try and block the kick, as he raises his right arm vertically his forearm makes contact with the center's facemask as the center is trying to push him back. Williams forearm snaps the center's head back.

The ref might have seen the head snap back and called it on that basis similar to a ref throwing a flag for a facemask after seeing the helmet turned direction sharply while the body continues on in a different direction. He didn't see the hand on the facemask but called the penalty on the apparent result of such an action.

They have nothing to complain about, UW had two straight 1st and goal possessions late in the game that would've iced it for them. Outside of the ridiculious roughing the snapper call, the officiating was pretty good.

Hopefully this can be the point where the Irish defense turns the corner and becomes the unit people thought they would be at the beginning of the season. All the problems on defense can be corrected they just need that swagger, that upto this point in the season they did not have.

So, as I was driving up to LA to go to a hockey game tonight, I was listening to a little of the SC game. The mother f'ing commentators were talking shit about ND's two point conversion saying Hughes was being pushed. I kid you not, they said, "So when we do it, it's illegal, but when Notre Dame does it it's a good play. Reggie Bush did the same thing..." Blah, blah, blah. F-YOU!!! Hughes moved the whole freaking pile when he made that play! He was a beast!!!!

Seemed to me the flag was thrown much too quickly. Ref was ready to throw the flag before the play started. What human can see and decide so quickly?

I am a HS football official and it is a rule. You are not allowed to hit the center until he is in a position to defend himself. I have only ever seen it called once, and that was blatant. This wasn't blatant AT ALL!

That picture is inconclusive. You cant see the ball. For all we know, he could be holding it out over the goal line.

ND did not get all the calls. There was a TD pass to Rudolph in the first half called back by a bs.s holding call on on Stewart. We had to settle for a FG afterwards. NBC didn't show the replay, but I replayed it and there was no way that holding. The end dipped his shoulder and got by Stewart, but he went to the ground himself and Stw=ewart just helped him there, but there was no hold. And has been mentioned, the roughing the snapper penalty could have cost us the game, the way we had to burn even more clock stopping those guys. There's more, but I have to watch the game again to remind myself. EDIT: Segio Brown late and b.s. PI flag on UW's final drive. Horrible call...

Having said that, it feels good to be on the right side of things for a change. A couple of calls actually did go our way, shockingly. I won't complain LOL.

And GoIrish, as for the USC announcers, the ABC guys doing the USC game (they were total pac 10 homers), said that UW deserved to win the game, and left it at that. I'm like, WTF? We dominated the 1st half, we were the better team, but we just couldn't punch the damn ball in the end zone 5 times. A normal ND offensive performance gets us in at least 3 times, and it's a different game. The team has some major warts, but we deerved to win the game. The better team won IMO, and those 2 announcers and anyone who thinks otherwise can stick it...
