How bad is the ACC? (Louisville over TA&M without their QBs isn't that impressive - imo) From what I've seen this bowl season, it doesn't bode well for Clemson or Notre Dame. Our win over NAVY does look pretty good now.

We should have half-joined the SEC.

That said, since Redfield is trending toward the "bust" category, I'd like to see a rundown of our success recruiting California over the last 10 years. My intuition is that it's really bad; to the point where we might want to deemphasize the state significantly.

2006:
Konrad Reuland 4 star
Will Yeatman 3 star

2007:
Jimmy Clausen 5 star
Taylor Dever 3 star

2008:
Dayne Christ 5 star
Anthony Mcdonald 4 star

2009:
Cierre Wood 4 star
Shaquelle Evans 4 star

2010:
Cameron Robertson 3 star
Justin Utupo 3 star

2011:
George Atkinson III 4 star
Josh Atkinson 3 star
Troy Niklas 4 star
(sort of) Joe Schmidt: 3 Star

2012: NA

2013:
Max Redfield 5 star

2014:
Tyler Luatua 4 star

2015:
Equanamious St. Brown 4 star
CJ Sanders 4 Star

So yeah, a lot of duds in there, but I think the 2015 class is gonna have the best production out of California recruits ND has had in awhile

I know the other Texas schools probably don't want it, but the Big12 would be smart to add Houston asap.

Bring it back baby!!!

2006:
Konrad Reuland 4 star
Will Yeatman 3 star

Both transferred. Total bust.

2007:
Jimmy Clausen 5 star
Taylor Dever 3 star

Good year. Both multiple year starters.

2008:
Dayne Christ 5 star
Anthony Mcdonald 4 star

You forgot Fauria and Nate Montana. Total bust.

2009:
Cierre Wood 4 star
Shaquelle Evans 4 star

One multi-year starter, and one transfer. 50% bust.

2010:
Cameron Robertson 3 star
Justin Utupo 3 star

Roberson took a medical, and Utupo was a career backup. Total bust.

2011:
George Atkinson III 4 star
Josh Atkinson 3 star
Troy Niklas 4 star
(sort of) Joe Schmidt: 3 Star

Josh was a bust, but the other three were very productive. Good year.

Shepard and Greenberry. So painful.

2013:
Max Redfield 5 star

Vanderdoes as well. Trending hard toward bust.

2014:
Tyler Luatua 4 star

Looking good so far.

2015:
Equanamious St. Brown 4 star
CJ Sanders 4 Star

Looking even better.

So let's bracket 2014 and 2015 as TBD. In the 8 years preceeding those two classes, we "signed"* 20 players total. Of those, 6 turned into productive multi-year starters, and the rest busted to various degrees. Is a 30% success rate acceptable given the resources we pour into recruiting California? Hard to say without a good idea of how much we're spending there and how those resources might otherwise be utilized. But that seems pretty bad to me.

*Counting Shepard and Greenberry here, since they were the centerpieces of the 2012 class. Shepard made it onto campus, and I think Greenberry flipped to Houston because he learned that he wouldn't qualify academically for ND. Can't provide it, though.

Right now for 2016 we are looking at a potential career Backup QB (but who's to say after this year's QB shuffle) and a S/OLB prospect that has a lot of potential but also a relatively low floor. If we can pull Kelly then there's now way at least one of these guys doesn't end up being a contributor for us in the near future

As a side note I see Jimbo Fisher was granted a divorce from his wife. Separated for 5 months the settlement got done fast once his lawyers threatened to depose ex-Gator player Taylor Jacobs. Apparently the wife had an affair with him.

Since the next blue-blood vacancy will likely be UCLA, I hope he stays at Houston for a while. Mora did a huge amount of damage to us on the recruiting trail, so I'm not eager to see the Bruins immediately reload with a better coach.

It's one of the better jobs in D1, but I wouldn't call UCLA a blueblood. They have some history of success, but I wouldn't place them in the same category as ND, USC, OSO, OU, Bama, scUM and Texas.

Regardless, UCLA was a non-factor on the recruiting trail for us until Mora was hired. I'd like to see them return to their usual mediocrity. It's hard enough competing against USC for Cali kids.

I still think UCLA has an easier job in Cali than Houston competing against Texas, aTm, Baylor, TCU, and even Texas Tech for kids in Texas

No disagreement there.
