Loved the playoffs. Great games.

Glad the Lakers got it done after Kobe's passing. Rob Pelinka and Frank Vogel did a great job.

Love this product, love what they did with the bubble, loved that they got it done.

Haters gonna hate.

Humored because the outcome was so obvious yet disregarded. Now the NBA has a real problem IMO regardless if they choose to acknowledge it or not.

Will be interesting to follow how they proceed but see Silverman has already made some comments about toning down the political nonsense next year...must have received last month’s P&L.

Wait till you see ratings for the other major sports leagues, and the Kentucky Derby. Damn tranny horses!

I’ve seen this a few times too and agree to a certain extent (not the tranny horses part). :)

While sports ratings are down across the board, nothing that I’ve seen even come close to the NBA. I saw a stat the other day that had Game 5 viewership down 75% from previous year. That’s a huge number. Some sports fans found other things to do during COVID, no doubt. But the NBA’s issue are much larger that that IMO.

Also, I’d argue that MLB viewership was down this year because my RedSox sucked. And I’m sticking to that. :)

Happy you enjoyed it so much. My good friend is a big Lakers fan, so happy for him too.

On a side note, I’ve met Frank Vogel on a couple occasions - once at the dealership when getting my oil changed. Nice, down to earth guy...wish the Pacers never axed him.

Just heard on the radio there were only 5M people who watched the final game compare to last year which had 18M watch.

IMO, the NBA should have just cancelled the rest of the season without declaring a champion. Now this season gets pushed back and everything is still out of whack. A little absence might have made viewership go up next year as people started to yearn for basketball.

I have always been fond of the folks that find their way into Soccer threads on a message board to make sure everyone knows they don't care about soccer.

This was the "tree falling" thread, wasn't it?

That's what makes this years ratings even worse. Typically viewership of sports goes down when a Canadian team is involved.

That's very true, although I don't remember the ratings for the Blue Jays vs Rangers series a couple years back but I imagine they did well.

I think if the Leafs were in the cup finals there would be big viewership to watch Matthews.

Anyways, you don't have to worry about anything Canada related as our teams generally suck.

"Middle age man who is generally-doing-ok-financially views POC raising issues with police brutality as complaining and thinks they should shut up and dribble, expresses joy at ratings decline, vows to never watch again...but will still inevitably watch!"

I think everyone should be able to speak their truth at this point.

I have no problem coming to this thread and having conversations with myself if I have to. Until the thread gets locked, at which point if I am still posting conversations with myself I should seek professional help.

Difficult circumstances to win a title in. One team did it.

Everyone should be able to speak their mind. The key is the athletes need to remember who they're speaking to and when they're doing it. Don't be upset when you don't get the results you expected.

My wife asks, "Is it okay if I talk to myself?" "As long as you don't answer yourself" is what I tell her.

I don't know that Anthony Davis and Jimmy Butler care about the TV ratings. Adam Silver probably does, but Adam Silver also handled Covid better than a lot of governments have, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I am trying to figure out what sport has ratings that are not down, even prior to Covid, versus previous years.

I have friends and relatives that don't like basketball because of the blackness. They've admitted it straight up, and I can at least appreciate their honesty rather than dancing around the issue. Still makes them c*nts, but they're honest c*nts who are willing to show their ass rather than live a lie. When they ask me to pass the potatoes at Thanksgiving, I'll do it, but in reality I'll be thinking they shouldn't be so c*nty.

To be clear, you’ve never seen me on a soccer thread.

Again, choose to acknowledge it or not...it’s real.

Inability or the choice to not see the larger picture will result badly. Lebron is praised now, kudos...wait until it’s the next generation’s time to be paid. That’s when it’ll finally hit reality.

It’s really not hard to forecast. .

They might not, but should if they care about the the league. Lebron single handily has jeopardized millions of $$$ for many. The incoming players are the ones who should be upset the most.

Those folks are cunts, and sorry you’re experiencing that but happy to see you’re taking the high road. I don’t know if I’d still have those friends and family is what it is. That sucks man.

You joke but mistyped or misused the word “inevitably” as viewership numbers are the opposite of that. Down doesn’t mean up my friend.

They should care about ratings because revenue and salary caps are directly related. Ratings go down so does revenue and contracts will reflect it. Viewership may be down in other sports, but none have shown as drastic drop as the NBA.

None have so radically embraced the woke factor as the NBA. I can go without it.

Sunday night's crappy game of 1-4 MN vs Seattle got twice the viewership of the NBA final lol...

It comes down to the NBA has been both hypocritical at they same time they have been in-your face. The NFL has been more measured.

It's a business. If you choose to be preachy at your fanbase about politics, you're going to turn half the fan base off. If you choose to be preachy and be hypocritical at the same time, you'll turn off even more. And when your biggest star and the actual League office itself have been hypocrites, that doesn't help either.

My personal interest in the NBA has declined over the years, but I still watched the Pacers. This is the first year however I didn't watch any of the finals, and really gave zero Fs about it.

Well at least they have the China market....

No italics.

A lot of folks I think are where you are including this former season ticket holder. The NBA overestimated their entertainment value and underestimated the impact of a few poor rash decisions driven by a media mob. Silverman is smarter than that, isn’t he? He acts as if he is.

Not even mentioned yet are their hard ons with China. That in itself is a slippery slope who Mark Cuban considers a business partner. They can have it...

Huh?? Which side of the fence are you on? This contradicts your previous stance.

Not sure why there is so much hostility here.

1. My stance is essentially its ironic seeing a bunch guys complain about how SJW are ruining sports yet....here we are.

2. Wasn't very serious there, but out of all the Canadian teams I would guess the Leafs would be the biggest draw for American fans to watch based on Auston Matthews? Again, it was just a throw away comment.

3. My friend, you should see the demographic splits for which sports leagues have the biggest draws. The NBA does really well comparatively with younger people.

Thank you, sir, for the clarity and my apologies for any hostility. I think YJ, per usual, sums it up really well.

Us middle-aged fogies aren’t all too bad, although I don’t see 40 until next June. You must watch out for those geezers though like Irish#1 lol.

I too enjoy seeing others perspective and appreciate your offerings. At the end of the day, we can all agree on these two things - GO IRISH!!! And fuck Michigan
