I agree goodwill is badly needed, and we should have offered support. I'm just saying that Americans give a lot privately, more than ANY other country, and that is often overlooked. We are a generous nation, who geniunely care when bad things happen to other people, of any nationality. It just seems that it becomes politcal fodder no matter what we do, or how much we give. It is NEVER enough.
I agree, we dropped the ball big time!! Perhaps that is why bush today wants to see it through until we can exit at a good time. I don't know when that will be, hopefully soon.
Big difference between the two! Ted got himself a bad rep for the whole car in the water thing.... I can't throw stones at anyone else tho, I was a pretty good partier myself.
Agreed on why he wants to stay. I am not sure if there ever will be a time we can exit without having the civil war completely boil over.
I once thought it would be possible to leave them when peace reigned. Now I increasingly think the way for peace to come to fruition might be to remove the one hot button item...us. We inflame the insurgents. Our very presence is the greatest recruiting tool they need.
If we left soon, it might just remove the driving force behind the insurgency.
Then again, maybe it wouldn't.
My key concern with leaving now, instead of 2-3 years from now, is that Iran might make a big move on Iraq. That would be really bad.
not really bush was not only a drunk, but a drug abuser with cocaine at least. this man bankrupted three companies and is close to ripping our country apart. Ted just drowned a hooker.
That is one wicked looking signature picture!!
I try not to condemn those who did foolish things early in life. The real question to me is..what do we do next?? Iran is becoming a real problem for us, and potentially for Iraq, Israel, and other countries in the region. We can't just up and leave now until some semblance of order is in place. I say patience is needed for several more years. If things aren't where they should be at that point, YANK 'EM !

I can see why people think that, its becoming more and more untenable there. The one thing that I can point to to give me reason to stay a while longer is the troops on the ground. Not the generals mind you, but the lower grade officers and the enlisted personnel. From what I have heard, most want to stay and finish the job. This is evidenced by the continued high re-enlistment rate.
Thanks. those are the masks representing the seven cherokee clans. I agree with you about he withdrawl. Although i disagree wholeheartedly with the war in the first place, we are there and the last thing we should do is withdraw any time soon. We need some time to find those WMDs![]()
Ha!
At this point, I think everyone disagrees with the war. It's best at this point to think clearly about what we do next. Withdrawal, while getting our guys out of harms way momentarily, is premature. What we need to do, and all along, is to get the iraqis to do the things they should be doing! Take control of their own destiny. If they don't, then we made a huge mistake. If they do manage to pull it off soon, one can argue it wasn't a bad thing what we are doing.
I wonder what W's indian name would be?? ( i know i'm asking for trouble!!! LOL)
You are missing the point on this. The question is not "do we WANT to stay to finish"? But what does "finish" really mean?
We can NEVER end the insurgency. Not in 100 years.
So, does FINISH mean leave once the Iraqi army is built up? When Baghdad is relatively secure?
What does finish really mean?
If that were clear AND it seemed possible, a lot of dissension would dissipate.
Finish means we leave when the country is stable and able to run without undue interference. I don't like the word "never", too defeatist. I think its like a football game, act and react, but mostly you want to impose your will on the other side. This could mean that we get up in Iran's face real soon.
