Right on. I like all of that... and yeah, I dig Maroon 5, too. I also give them major props for the She Will Be Loved video... It keeps me watching every time. You heard their remixes by Kanye West?

Who is Ozomatli?

No, I haven't...you're going to have me on Google all night for that. :)

Ozomatli is a rap-rock-cultural group that is a lil' too different to be big. http://www.ozomatli.com.
"Saturday Night" is the jam (second song on the playlist on their site).

ozomatli's a san diego band originally, though they relocated to LA recently. i saw them live once in a bar, they're phenomenal.

Cool. Going to grab it to give it a listen. Just did a search on Limewire and they have collab with Jurassic 5? That could be nice.

Svoboda - who is that old chick in the video? She's nice.

And Voidoid - I'd give you rep for Miles (if I had't given you rep already recently...lol).

sweet! are you a jazz fan?? i buy jazz LPs constantly, they're inexpensive and plentiful on ebay. mingus, coltrane, davis, art tatum, milt jackson.. you can find anything. investing in a decent record player is worth it, old vinyl costs way less than CDs.

Okay... I've heard this Saturday Night song, just never knew who sang it. One of the local DJs does a 5pm Drive Home mix and he uses it.

I know I may catch heat for this, but I refuse to buy CDs. I download everything and if I like the artist, I'll support them through merch and concerts, which is where they make their money anyway.

I went to 11 concerts last summer, my favorite being Kid Rock, who most people can't stand. Like him or not, he's talented and his encore was amazing.

I was on a big jazz kick last summer.

I also love the sound of vinyl. I love old school R&B and I found slews of 45s at this antique mall where everyone has booths and pretty much sell all their junk. Nothing like the scratch, hiss and pop.

Man, I'm a newly converted Jazz fan. Miles, Dizzy, Satchmo, "The Bird"...I love them. The sax player in my old band turned me on to them.

And Svoboda, I'm with you. The music biz these days is all about 3 singles. If you have 4-5 good singles, I'll buy your CD. If not...I'm downloading it. I don't know if it's allowed or not, but my preferred download client is Soulseek. Almost as good results as Kazaa...but no ads or spyware!

Never heard of that one... got a link? I've been using Limewire and usually find most of what I want.

And I hear you on the CD purchasing. I bought Kanye West because he is the first artist in a long time that has captured my attention. Listening to some ole Stevie Wonder right now.

It's a lil' slower, but I think it's worth it for no ad-ware/spy-ware.
Will definitely have to check this out.

I've been thing of adding a radio application to the board that allows you to listen to web stations as you post. There are some really good stations out on the web these days.

I also have Sirius satellite radio.

Sorry I'm getting into this thread late...

My tastes have been changing rapidly over the past few years. Rock n' roll doesn't burn with the same flame it used to, though I will still see any band John Riese is in out of principle (Rocket from the Crypt, Sultans, Hotsnakes!). I like more blue collar stuff lately, particularly unyoung country (Cash, Daniels, etc.). The Oxes are a math rock band that I still think is the coolest show I've ever seen.

I also like 80s transitional New Wave to Punk stuff (like the Clash, Cars, Blondie, They Might be Giants, Talking Heads, etc.). I despise early-90s grunge but like late-90s slacker rock (like Pavement). I really just don't like anything I can classify as hair-rock.

But really I mostly just listen to the Mont'serrat Boys' Choir, Bach, Beethoven, and Vivaldi. I really like Vivaldi's Gloria as performed by the King's Chapel Oxford University Choir, and listen to it regularly. Mozart's reqiuem mass is great when I'm pissed off.

I will say this: I HATE Areosmith with a passion. Quite possibly the crappiest band since Journey and Foreigner. Hell, they're contemporaries, but David Geffen tricked people into thinking Areosmith was good at the same time Jefferson Airplane and REO Speedwagon got moved to the discount rack at your local carwash.

BTW, Svoboda, your new avatar is awesome. :worship2:

what instrument(s) do you play?? i was in a ska band in high school, a punk band at ND, and a 60s soul/garage band a couple years ago. i've played guitar for years and i'm learning drums from my roommate, who is a jazz drummer...

if you're getting into jazz, check out charlie mingus. he's a bassist and composer and he's the coolest of them all. the album "mingus ah um" is probably his best, along with his other albums from 58-63 (either on columbia records or impulse! records).

any of you guys reggae fans??

ah, yes, i was actually the singer in the punk band i was in at ND solely because i could play guitar and sing simultaneously. my voice is less than angelic to say the least. maybe that's why the judges didn't give us any love at nazz.

:). I hear you. My voice is decent...I just need to quit screwing with it (too much alcohol & ciggarettes).

My music site:http://www.talentmatch.com/nathanmilton.

I wrote the lyrics to all of thesongs, and themusic for the first song (in the "media" section).

I like a lot of rock, grunge and metal, but I get a lot of flack about it from my kids who listen mainly to rap. You don't ever want to hear me sing.

metal, nice! i recently unearthed my cassettes from sixth-eighth grade and it's a treasure chest of metal. couple metallica albums, four or five megadeth, and every single iron maiden album prior to 1991 except for "piece of mind," which was the first CD i ever purchased. for some reason i quit listening to metal in high school but got back into it later. i was listening to judas priest earlier today, in fact. a few of those bands were amazing; however, there were also the poisons and wingers of the world... popular music goes through some silly phases.

lol...I'm not a metal fan at all (unless you consider Ice T's Body Count as metal).

BTW, not to be a "site-pimp"...but if any of you cats happened to look at my link & checked out my songs...what do you think? Any feedback (positive or negative) is welcome.

you have a great voice. very smooth with subtle, controlled vibrato. the three songs you posted are nice and mellow but don't have a part where you really belt it out, which is something i'd like to hear. the recording quality is good, as well; did you record in a studio? if so, how was that experience?

my last band has our 4 song EP on its webpage. i quit two summers ago because the keyboardist (since kicked out of the band) was a terrible person. however, he owned great recording equipment; these songs are totally DIY put onto 3/4" tape and the recordings have a very warm quality to them. the band had three vocalists, one of whom was GREAT, the other two stank... check out the song "waiting for torture," it's the rocker with our good singer. the other three are OK. i did all the guitar work, but the drummer is the only real musician in the band.

http://www.theviewmasters.net - look under "media." there are some pics of us playing live with me wearing my dad's old notre dame football shirt - the 3/15/03 scolari's office pics. righteous!

Thanks for the feedback, man. That's something I'm working on in my solo project...just going for it, instead of being so reserved in my vocals. Also, the music is more R&B-flavored. If you heard Darius "Hootie" Rucker's solo album, it's something like that.

The first song was recorded during a radio interview. The last two were in-studio. We recorded with a guy named Dave "Pic" Conley...he was part of the 80's group Surface ("Shower Me With Your Love"). But the recording process was so fun, man. The main thing to remember is just to have your stuff together before you go into the studio. Time is money. But if you do it right, the studio can be a great experience.

yeah, i've heard it can be a fairly expensive endeavor. my buddy zack is in some teen-emo-core band that recorded in a studio in LA two months ago, and the techs spent EIGHT HOURS sound-checking the drumkit. yikes! then, they ended up scrapping those recordings for some reason and now they're pulling two all-nighters during the studio's graveyard shift (10pm-8am) to re-record the same songs. that's the los angeles music biz for you.

i enjoyed recording with that soul band i was with. i was in the sessions for the drums, bass, and rhythym guitar, which we did the first day. i went back in later to do the solos, which was a bit of a pain because you really have to NAIL it, so that took a few rounds of bourbon until it sounded just right. all the vocals and saxophone were added later, and after a couple weeks we had this finished EP. i had a blast.

Man, Surface... brings back the junior high days. Didn't they also sing "The First Time?"

Yeah they did that song, too. I was/am an 80's R&B fiend, so it was really cool to work with Pic.
