This is just a guess, but could it have something to do with the conference realignment? Maybe the switch from the god awful leaders vs legends reset the rotation.

Conference realignment. I believe Maryland and Rutgers joining the league changed schedules.

To answer the earlier question, UM had to go back to back at MSU because of the new teams that were added. Have a friend who is a UM season ticket holder and boy are they pissed about it.
