i think Darius is the most articulat or Ryan Harris, I think Tommy Z might be the least that I have seen. He seems to say UMM and UHH a lot.

Tommy Z's got a lot of passion and intensity, but he's a lot less comfortable in interviews than Walker or others, for sure.

I don't think is dumb by any means. You don't graduate from Notre Dame being a dumb ass, football player or not. I also don't think it is from the fighting but just not as comfortable in front of the camera as others i can only go off what I see and hear. I am sure that when in the company of friends and family or in the classroom that he is very articulate.

Was I just labeled a racist?

I like watching Walker's interviews, he's comfortable, he gives good, in-depth answers, and he seems to have fun with the process. By no means was I patronizing him. The guy had a 4.0 GPA.

I don't know why you insist on making race an issue, Ralph.

Remember the first person to cry racism, is usually the racist.
Let's just move on.....he's just trolling for more fuel now.

You started a thread praising a black player for being articulate. That's true, no? Now, what is the implication? Perhaps you were naive as to that being a common racist remark, in which case, that's fine. But nonetheless it IS a common racist remark, and though it's not intended to be a mean one it's all the worse for the person not even realizing he's racist. It smacks of unconscious racism.

And no, I'm not a liberal, nor PC, nor someone who sees racism everywhere. I've personally boycotted all the shows featuring all the black media people who erroneously called the Willingham firing racist. But praising a black person for being articulate, as I've said, is a common act of people who are unconsciously racist, to whatever degree.

And Irish Legend, that's nonsense.

I started a thread asking people who they thought was the most articulate guy on the team. I said Darius Walker and I gave my reasons why.

I praised his maturity because even though he's older than I am, he's still a young guy. Everyone in college is.

And mostly, I was just complimenting him for being a really likable guy.

You're making an issue where there isn't one :)

Everyone is right on both sides.......Oglaigh most surely didn't mean any offense......but for those that are rippin' Ralphie you're completely out of line. His statement is completely fair because it is a very common situation and misunderstanding. He was not accusing or blaming anyone.....he made a point that was incredibly valid and some of you who don't know any better took off and ripped the lad. Use your heads and be fair. C'mon

Well, I disagree. Whenever someone starts throwing labels around, they deserve criticism.

But if we wish to use Ralph's logic, then apparently, I am banned from giving black people compliments.

We're all ND fans on this board, so I respect everyone for that fact alone, even RWE. I'd just prefer it if he accepted the fact that he doesn't know everything and that he is neither Sigmund Freud nor the real Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Did he literally say you were racist? No. His point was ridiculously valid and relevant. He was merely touching upon a sad aspect of society where many people will embrace a Brandon Hoyte because of his "articulateness" but shun a player who speaks maybe let's say......in a cultural way that he/she deams unintelligent because of their ignorance. It is a massive misconception/unfairness that exists in society and he was basically bringing up that point. You did nothing wrong Oglaigh.......

Primetime.......national audience........under the lights.........9/2. I wanna see Travis Thomas hit somebody........and for the surgeon-like precision of Charlie's brand of football, bewilder the unprepared, and the stun the overconfident. I agree with you Oglaigh.....

Fine. So let it be written,..........so let it be done.

No man, of any skin color even close to brown, shall henceforth be described as "articulate", no matter the efficacy of his speech, the breadth of his vocabulary or the ease with which he displays these skills in extemporaneous and public fashions.

Ordered this day 19 August, 2006, to become established law in these our United States.
Because Ralphy says so.
