I think CW is great for the protection and integrity of the University and the Players. The Media has screwed itself by reporting fluffed stories and misquoted remarks just so the avereage joe sees a headline and then shells out 50 cents for a paper. ESPN is getting worse. Name another team that Mark May concentrates all of his anger toward every week. Who will stop him - ND fans!!! Stop emailing the ESPN/ABC/Disney Mafia with complaints and Mark May will go away.

Mark May is doing his job. He is stirring things up with his "hate" of ND. Gets people watching him and paying attention.

It's all for show. And even if it isn't, I'm done listening.

All that matters is the football. Let people love and hate who they want. The 60 minutes on the field will settle it all in the end. Remember last year? As far as all these experts were concerned, no one should have played USC because they were the greatest team ever.

How about the Ohio State-Miami Fiesta Bowl? That game was over before it started.

this site is what makes america great! We ( in that I mean those incharge of this site not actually me) actually want fans of other teams to give their opinion and make comments. That just shows the caliber of the people running this site. I on the other hand loathe the skunk bears with a passion that I can't even put into words on this site. I actually could care less what you would like to see Notre Dame do, and your opinion means.........ahhhhh nothing!

Hail to the fighting irish
Hail to the conquering irish
Hail Hail to Notre Dame
The champions of the west!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will now apologize to the powers that be...I would like to blame it on medical crap but hey that would be a lie...I hate the skunk bears!!!

Every time we click on the link to the NWI Times this guy laughs. Post the story and drop the link. Don't give him the benefit of the hits to his site.

1st article sounds like a guy a little upset that he isn't included in Charlie's "circle of trust". My advice to him is to quit whining and quit trying to tear a guy down. I haven't heard anybody I know that went to ND express any ill feelings about him. Everything I have heard has been positive.

If you actually read the opinion of your fellow Irish fans, you will see that they actually agree with my assessment that ESPN and sportswriters hype of ND when they deserve no such thing. You'll also be interested to note that your players are saying the same things, like "we have to prove it on the field."

Oh, and we at the Michigan boards welcome OSU and ND fans so long as they don't say irrational things.

Sorry about posting the link if some people thought it unwarranted.
I don't even think much of what the author of the article says is wrong--I just don't think trying to keep the program insulated from a lot of media exposure is such a bad thing. In this I agree with leppycole. USC might be thinking it's a good thing too right about now.

The "Duh, no kidding" insight of the week: "As long as the Irish win, [Weiss's critics] will bite their lip. But if the program struggles, his critics will multiply like roaches."

Ya think?

This statement is both correct and slightly flawed. It is ND and Weis is the coach...for this fact the university, coaches, players, etc. are "under a mircoscope." It is a media mircoscope...what is going on with the players and coaches is news. While you are correct with the above statement, critics are just that...critical. They will always find something (or make up something) to criticize. Like it or not, it is the price ND (and its fan) pay for being/liking the greatest college football program ever. Take these things with a grain of salt.

just remember mark may said ND could go 0-7 to start the season last year. before they proceeded to destroy his beloved alma mater. So, I close with lets just play some football and see what the critics have to say at the end of the season.

EXACTLY!!!

It will all be decided on the field...just like last year.

The only poll that matters is the last one. (I was just reminded of this Holtz quote today)

I just wonder who the hell are these alumni who don't like Weis? Are these people nuts? Do they even like ND football, or do they care more about a coach being nice and buddy buddy with them to make them feel like they're "part of the team"? These particular boosters sound pathetic. No real ND fan hates or has any problem with Weis at this point in time.

When the article gives no names and no quotations...it's probably BS. This was an OPINION piece after all...not a news article.

I can't believe you guys are complaining. How many other teams get so much attention from sellout writers and ESPN after an OK 3 loss season? I would like to see two consecutive winning seasons. Apparently, that hasn't happened in a while.

"an Ok 3 loss season"
3 wins against ranked teams, beat two other teams that werent ranked but went to a bowl game, and beat 5 teams that finished the year 5-6 (Pitt, Mich State, Purdue, Tenn, and Stanford)

Quality Wins: Pittsburgh, Michigan, Purdue, BYU, Tennessee, Navy, Stanford

Pittdburgh was coming off a Fiesta Bowl year, and was the favorite to win the Big East. The game was being played at Pitt, and Pitt was favored by 3 points. Michigan was ranked #3 at the time, and the game was played at ann arbor. Michigan also had wins over Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan State when MSU was ranked #11. Michigan was a 7 point favorite. Purdue was 2-1 at the time and ranked #22. The game was being played at Purdue, and ND was a 3 point underdog. BYU was just 3-3 at the tme, but was coming off a 2 game winning streak. Notre Dame had just lost to USC the week before. Tennessee was just 3-4 at the time but had losses to #6 Floridaby 9, #5 Georgia by 13, and #5 Alabama by 3. They had already beaten the #3 team in the country in LSU, at baton rouge. They averaged giving up 14 points a game coming into the game, but ND scored 42 points. Navy came into the game 5-3, but their losses were to Maryland, Stanford, and Rutgers by a combined 16 points. They finished they year averaging 34.2 points per game and letting up just 14.5. Notre Dame won 42-21. Stanford came into the game 5-5, and fighting for a bowl bid. They had wins over 2 bowl teams, and other wins against Arizona, Oregon State, and Washington State. They lost to UCLA in OT when they were undefeated and ranked #8.

Key Losses: Michigan State, USC, Ohio State

Michigan State came into the game 2-0, and averaging over 45 points a game. They were leading by 21 points late in the 3rd quarter, and managed to win in OT. They had many close losses this year. They were ranked #11 and lost to rival Michigan in OT. Against OSU, they were leading by 10 with little time left in the 2nd quarter, but a Field goal was blocked and returned for a TD when they only had 10 players on the field. Against Northwestern, they threw 2 pics inside the 10 yard line, missed 2 field goals, and had a fumble returned against them for a TD. Thats 5 times in scoring position! With 5 seconds left, they threw a pic inside the red zone against Purdue in a 28-21 loss. In a 9 point loss aginst PSU, they threw 2 pics inside FG territory, missed a short field goal, and had a punt that was returned against them for a TD. USC simply averaged 50 points a game during the regular season, and Notre Dame nearly beat them, giving up a TD on the last play of the game. Notre Dame was a 12 point underdog. USC went 12-1 last year, and was the most talented team in the country by far. Ohio State was ranked #4 and was playing in their 3rd Fiesta Bowl in 4 years. They were favored by 4 and a half points and had two of the speediest receivers in the country, as well as a mobile QB. One call cost ND the game (Zibbys fumble return) and Ohio State won 35-21.

So much for an OK 3 loss season victorsvaliant. Michigan had a pretty OK 5 loss season

Sorry about posting the link if some people thought it unwarranted.

Nothing to be sorry about.

The point is this guy is a hair puller. He wrote the article on behalf of his buddy, his former co-worker. Carroll broke the rules and is being held accountable for his actions. This guy comes across like a high school freshman whinning because his buddy got sent to the principal's office so he's gonna complain about the teacher who made his buddy accountable. Note the lack of facts and quotes from any of those upset alumni. Short on substance; long on he'll get his.

This guy writes to get hits on his site and he wants angry emails so he can show his boss all the traffic his work generates. So with guys like him and May, don't email them, call them, or link their articles. Nothing will infuriate him more than being ignored.

Why reward him for his hack attack. Post the article so it can be discussed here, just delete the link and deny him the hits. IF he can a write a critical piece, favorable or not, but with substance than give him a link.

You have to go all the way back to '97-'98 for that Victor. But despite a down decade due to a pair of mediocre head coaches, ND was 4-3 over Big Blue during that span. Thank you, Lloyd.

ND has two wins over Michigan in two years.

When was the last time Michigan beat ND in consecutive years, Victor?

Were you born yet?

Yeah, what he said.

You're about to see two straight winning seasons.

Oh, and three straight against the champions of the west.

I could say the exact same thing about Michigan, there is no program in the country more overhyped on a consistent basis than Michigan, 1/2 a championship in what the last 50 years.

That's why the Michigan game actually scares me most this season, I can't ever remember Michigan being ranked so low, and underhyped so much.

I do agree with you guys on two counts.

1. Our losses to Nd have been unacceptable.
2. We are always ranked way too high in the preseason polls.

It is precisely in years when we are off the rader where the team performs well.

A 3 loss season is only ok. For elite teams, you should expect superior results. If you think a 3 loss season is good, then your expectations have dropped considerably over the last decade. We had 3 loss seasons in 03 and 04, and there was not a lot of joy after those seasons ended. Let me put it this way: if Nd loses 3 times this year, Weis will think he's a failure. And while we could use some more championships, we have been the most consistent team in college football over the past 50 years.
