Currently, Yankee Stadium has only 6 people honored via monuments in Monument Park (4players, 1 manager, 1 owner):

Lou Gherig
Babe Ruth
Joe DiMaggio
Mickey Mantle
Miller Huggins
Geroge Steinbrenner

21 other players, mangers, PA announcers etc are honred in Monument Park via plaques only.

As we know, Notre Dame is a program rich in history as the Yankees.

So the Question is:

You get only 6 slots from the entire Notre Dame football program, all-time, any job or position within the organization.

Who makes your Notre Dame Monument Park?

I have to think about it still.

Im going not in any order:

Lou Holtz
Tim Brown
Ara Parseghian
Brady Quinn
Paul Nornung
Knute Rockne

Ill probably edit this. I think it might be tough placing Brady on this list of beasts. But he holds so many All-time passing records and QB is the most important position on the field.

Well you've listed 2, give 4 more.

I tried to mix in old and new. Im just gonna list 6 people who played before 1950. I admit, I am not good with old ND history. Hell, it was by chance that I even listed Hornung Parseghian and Rockne. Haha.

Hey SpongeBob, maybe you ought to cut back on the Weis bologna you've been smoking?

No doubt Lujack and Hart. How about George Gipp, Johnny Lattner, Joe Montana, Ross Browner, Alan Page, Bob Crable, Ken MacAfee, Dave Casper, Bob Golic, Angelo Bertelli or maybe even Frank Leahy? One monument for the Four Horseman perhaps?

Brady Quinn??? What the he11 did he ever win? Lou Holtz??? Sorry, you lose to BC and cost yourself a national championship...no monument for you!!

Phew, McGib

Knute Rockne is the all time #1, greatest coach of all time 105-12-5, 5 national championships in 13 years, 5 undefeated seasons, died in plane crash or would have probably won more.
Frank Leahy - 87-11-9 coached 4 Heisman Trophy winners.
Paul Hornung - only player to win a hiesman in a losing season
Leon Hart - never lost a game 36-0-2 in his career at ND, first defensive player to win heisman(i think)
Johnny Lujack - played 3 years won 3 national championships, Served in Navy 1944 WWII
George Gipp - rumor has it as a defensive back not 1 pass was completed on his side of the field in 4 years.

So from the 13 youve listed (not inlcluding the 4 horsemen) you get 6 of them.

I didnt mean I dont know any history, just saying I dont have player stats and records on the the top of my mind. If i wanted to I could have listed 6 players Rudy listed in the locker room scene---BUT, I didnt feel like doing that.

I honestly don't know that Montana would make the list. Great pro, but I think that his NFL stats were much more impressive than those while he was at ND, no?

I do think that Lujcak and Gipp would have to be in there, but at whose expense? The original 6 proposed were:
Lou Holtz
Tim Brown
Ara Parseghian
Brady Quinn
Paul Hornung
Knute Rockne

Quinn was exceptional, but you might have to look at how much the QB position has changed over the years, and the fact that he never won a championship (and got blown out in the Sugar Bowl) might count against him.

Perhaps Lujack slides in ahead of Quinn, who gets the Dan Marino title as Best QB to Never Win a Championship (or major game). Shame, because I think Quinn's NFL failures have overshadowed his achievements in college.

Does Gipp take Parseghian's place?

There is only one reasonable answer here: 6 is impossible. Expand the ND Monument Park to its rightful dimensions, and expand the number of monuments to at least 50. Hit up the alumni for the financing.

What about Ronald Talley?? If anything there should be a "Ronald Talley Monument Park" dedicated entirely to the Alumni Hall legend.

I don't understand how he is not in the discussion. And you guys call yourselves Notre Dame fans. You make me sick...........

Not sure if this is sarcasm but I'm going to say its not. If you disagree then list your freaking top 6. Its simple.

It was who each poster wanted. If you want Ronald Talley then list your other 5. It can be anyone in the organization.

Do you remember Ron Talley? The dude was a joke. He left for Delaware because he "wasn't going to let some punk a$$ b!tch take his starting spot."

That was absolute sarcasm.

Man oh man, oh man, oh man! Talk about opening a can o' worms! I'm not sure the university owns enough property to do justice to the legends and the legion of unsung heroes.

Eddy Commons would have no restaurants, bars or condos. There would be row upon row upon row of commemorative markers.

Its hard to plaque one Heisman winner and not all of them so I go with the tradition of coaches and lore. Gipp,Rockne,Ara,Leahey,Devine,Holtz. Its not possible to pick one or two of the best Heisman guys-a Heisman is after all a Heisman.
