So, I've been wondering what some other teams fans think they will do at the trade deadline? What Do you think your team will do? Buy, Sell, or stand pat?
Maybe if we get enough people we could get a good idea of whats going on.
I'll start off with the Pirates.
First off, the Pirates will probably be buyers at the deadline. Looking for an outfield bat (preferably with pop), or a SS (at least I hope so, Barmes has been awful at the plate). I also wouldn't be surprise to see an arm added (starter). Bedard has been so injury prone and J-Mac and crew haven't been as sharp lately. It probably wouldnt be a huge name, but a solid 4 or so starter.
As far as the farm system goes Starling Marte - OF (who could also be called up for a bat) could go; probably in a Justin Upton trade. Cole and Taillon are highly unlikely to go anywhere. I hope Luis Heredia doesn't as well, but he seems to be dangling in an Upton deal as well. Hanson (AA SS) is another name that seems to be on his way out- whether that is for Upton or anyone else.
One interesting scenario is also possible. The Pirates are sellers. What? Even if they stay in contention and want to fight for a playoff spot, they could trade all-star closer Hanrahan. The idea is that Grilli could transition to the closer role, and the Pirates wouldn't be any worse off. Seems unlikely to me unless someone is will to give alot for Hanrahan. (Especially now that Grilli is struggling more).
Name the Pirates Could Bring in:
OF:
Justin Upton (Ari)
Josh Willingham (Min)
Shane Victorino (Phi)
Carlos Quentin (SD)
3B:
Chase Headley (SD)
SS:
Stephen Drew (Ari)
Pitching:
Paul Maholm (Cubs)- most likely
Matt Garza (Cubs)
Justin Vargas (Sea)
Zach Grienke (Mil) - I think thats unlikely though...
Internal Options (Lincoln, Owens, Locke, etc.)
Personally, I dont care if we trade Marte in an Upton deal, but would hate to see Heredia go. (Taillon and Cole won't). My concerns with the Upton deal is how much Upton is owed- we may have to give up alot so the Dbacks will eat some of his salary. Same with Grienke. I'd like to bring in Willingham if that doesn't go well- but he also has multiple years left, so we may be stuck there as well (Min wont give him up to easily).
I think we will end up with Maholm and another outfielder- not Upton- probably Quentin. Similiar to last year as we won't give up too much- which I am okay with.
(I could also see us getting Upton for a half season then trading him in the offseason- I have heard he will have the same, if not more, value in the offseason.)
