Reddick is flat awesome. In the NBA, he'll be a Steve Kerr type shooter off the bench. He'll be a Lottery pick, though.

He better hope he doesnt get another defender like Rodney Carney in the NBA, because he wont be able to do anything.

Reddick is your typical Duke player, lights it up in college then doesn't live up to the hyp in the NBA(Laettner, Dunleavy etc). UCONN seems to be the best at turning out pros

He'll be a solid pro though maybe average 10 to 15, but those aren't great numbers for a player who will probably be a top 5 top 10 pick.

Clausen, Paulus and Simms oh my! Man it is great to be an Irish faithful isn't my friends. I do, however, have some reservations on putting all our eggs in one basket. I think we all remember the Lorenzo Booker fiasco, and the Reggie Bush incident. I think Weis has a plan and a good relationship with our top 2 targets at QB. I think we get wrapped up in recruiting services and rankings too much. Lovecchio, Holiday, and Clark were supposed to be one of the best overall QB hauls we had had. We know how poor coaching has hurt development of can't miss Qbs in the past. I live in Texas and to see how Simms had unlimited talent around him, but seemed to get rattled in big games, led me to believe that Mack Brown's game plans, in the past, didn't evolve during the game. Take a look at this year for UT, all Brown did different was let his dominate QB run it 3 out of 5 downs in crunch time. That is a wild card he hasn't had in quite sometime. Great players sometimes are so great they don't need that much coaching at the college level. Vince Young in his first 2 seasons had changed his release point, and Mack had him trying to stick in the pocket too much. Now we look at this year, Mack re portably said that he had to change his philosophy on Young, and let him be him( aka let him do his own thing and stay out of his development). Do we all think Simms was developed properly at UT? This all brings us back to the fact that raw talent is wasted routinely without the right fit, in the right system at the right time. Just think what Weis could have done with Zach Kustok........... and what he has done with Brady Quinn........ We won't waste talent anymore in South Bend people, good times, good times!

One thing that has always stunned me are situations like this.. in recruiting Paulus, the coaching staff basically said to his face "We think Clausen is better than you, but if he doesn't come here, I guess we're stuck with your sorry ass".

I highly doubt that.

People are quick to bag on Chris Simms, and some of what he got he probably deserved (arriving to freshmen move-in day in a white limo), but let's look at what really happened here:

He worked his way into an even race with Major Applewhite, a Texas native, for a crack at the starting job. Texas fans and press, ever sentimental, wanted to see the Texan upperclassman be the starter and finish out his career as the starting QB. Mack Brown believed Simms had earned the right to play in practice and used both at times. Texas faithful did not like this, so the immediately stuck a Scarlet Letter on Simms.

And let's not forget about high expectations and what they can do to a QB coming out of high school (Ron Powlus?). Add in a Super Bowl winning father and you had a recipe for a whipping boy.

People are quick to kiss Matt Leinart's ass every chance they get and he had more talent around him in a weaker conference. Those OU teams Texas lost to while Simms was there were pretty damn good. And Simms is a much better pro than Leinart will be.

As for JJ Redick, he's not in the NBA yet and hasn't had the chance to fail there just yet. Since everyone is assuming he won't be a good pro, he might as well go to Europe.

Best, that's a legitimate concern, but it's a bit difference in this case from the Booker scenario. Clausen is expected to make an early decision. At least earlier than the last minute signing day deal that Booker did. That allows for plenty of time to identify and pursue plan B if needed.

I'm not saying Simms is any good. But you certainly can't judge Simms based on his brother. Besides, football isn't played in a vaccuum. Coaching makes a difference.

I do want Jimmy Clausen. I'm sold after the Outside the Lines report. But, it is wrong to judge a player based on his brother. But, come on, why is there so much support for Chris Simms on this board? Maybe you can't judge a player in just 12 games (except for Ryan Leaf), but from what I've seen, he's going to be a below average qb in the NFL. That's what he is now and that's all he's ever going to be.

Nobody here is supporting Chris Simms. We're talking about his little brother who ND is recruiting as a possible QB target. I'm saying you can't judge the younger by Chris. Just like Clausen can't be judged by his older brothers.

VERY unfair what happened to him IMO. He's not even a bad person or anything like that off the field. The Simms Family aren't the Mannings (puke) and for whatever reason, the media like to rip them.

I don't know, jig. In high school and college, I used to run in the offseason with my dog. He was a big athletic labrador. Were he a poodle or a fat bulldog, I would have probably been less of a player.
