Michael Jackson died today at a Los Angeles hospital. That was a shocker for me when I logged on to the Net today.

I have mixed emotions. On one hand the man/child was musical royalty, and I grew up with his songs and still listen to them today. Musically, in my eyes he was a genius.

But on the other hand he was a pedophile, and i think the world is a safer place today. As a Catholic I feel bad saying, but as a teacher/hopefully-future-dad, I don't feel badly at all.

Regardless of what you feel about the guy (???), I think we can all agree that in the end, it was talent wasted, and he was a tragic, sad figure...

R.I.P. Mike. You were a great, great entertainer.

Unfortunately, it's gonna suck watching this thread go downhill after a few posts.

Micheal was literally the soundtrack to my childhood. I had all his albums and knew every song. Regardless of what people think about him as a person, I feel he was the greatest entertainer to ever live.
We will miss you Micheal.

Quick! Someone get a paramedic to reach into his chest and "Beat It."....

Well... that fucking didn't work. Pourning out half of a Kids' Pedialight for my homie MJ.

I deal with terrible stuff like this with humor, if you couldn't tell.

I was at work and on a school campus when the news went thru the students there. I was somewhat surprised/shocked to hear students, especially black students, were clowning on him relentlessly.

mixed emotions here too.....

R.I.P. Jacko

The dude hasn't been relevant since the 80's. Was a pedophile (which is worse then a murderer), and obviously was a mental midget. He's also a guy that never ever gave back to the community that made him who he was today...Gary, IN.

IMO he's a piece of trash, but i never had to worry about him...thank god i only have a daughter.

Damn dude, what took so long? I was waiting for an I-Lew explosion, lol...

EDIT: I will say though, that he was relevant post 80's. He did the Free Willy soundtrack and had a couple huge hits. The Super Bowl that he performed at in the 90's was the only Super Bowl in history in which the ratings actually jumped at halftime, higher than at any point in the game (I was there, working the game; even though he lipsynched, the crowd was in awe. The suspense the crowd felt was unreal). He could still bring it, andeven though it was not at the level of the 80's, he was still unbelievably loved...

I loved Jackson as a kid (no jokes please) cant think of anyone (other than Irishlew) who wasnt. He made some great records and its crazy that he is dead. There are not too many people in the world who will create such news with their death. Muhammed Ali, Jordan, who else?

don't want to hate on your personal taste, but i can think of a lot of people who weren't MJ fans. Also my dislike of him has very little to do with his music, but no i was never a fan of his. I'm glad we didn't celebrate Hitler, Gacey, Bundy, Andrei Chikatilo, and countless other murderers and child molesters lives when they died. Listen i love Michael Jordan but if it turned out he was diddling kids, then i'd feel the same way about him. I'll never understand how so many people have so much love for a 50 yr old man who thinks he's Peter F'N Pan. We should be mourning real fallen heroes such as John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Layne Staley, Ronnie Van Zant, Jim Morrison, Bob Marley, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash man this list could go 20 pages before Jacko would get a sniff. And if you try and come back with the "well he was never convicted" crap, i think Katt Williams summed it up best.

"don't nobody say the same shit about you for 20 mfn years"

i know you stole that diddy from some song, but Elvis inspired the Beatles which is more then Wacko ever inspired. Actually come to think of it you can thank him for all these crap boy bands, Brittney spears, and the rest of the crappy pop music out today.

Neither of them. Giants in their fields but neitherwould not fill a boxing ring, a basketball court, or a stadium at 50 years old. Jackson had a sold out tour. Jackson's fame and sales declined in the U.S. but he's still popular around the world. Thriller is still a great album. Jordan never could hit a curve ball.

I turned on the tube today just before the annoucement was made. They showed the front of the hospital and there were already 6 police cars starting to block off the street. Subsequent shots showed an increasing police presence anticipating the crowd. None of the others will require that effort.

Elvis aint shit. You know what would have happened if Elvis didnt exist? You wouldnt have no damn redneck rock and vegas showtune Bullshit. The beatles were more into the artists Elvis stole from than Elvis. As for Michaels Music , once again back when he was black he was the shit. pretty much after Thriller most people tuned out. Except for teeny boppers

again you weren't born when MJ was Black. And of course you're wrong about the Beatles. Paul McCartney said the music Elvis was making inspired The Beatles.

That line was from Public Enemy's "Fight the Power". I'm not a big rap guy, but I do love rap with a real message (unlike Diddy), and Public Enemy was the shiiiit back in the day. EDIT: I thought you said P-Diddy, not 'diddy' LOL. Need to work on reading skills.

As for Elvis, c'mon Jason, the guy was the king. He too had personal demons, but he revolutionized music, from his singing style to his taking rock to Nashville to his swiveling of the hips. I listen to his songs today much the same as I listen to the Jackson 5. Both are music legends...

Fuck Paul McCartney too. John Lennon made the Beatles. Paul wanted to keep making all that i wanna hold your hand crap. The rest of the Beatles had moved on entirely. Paul is the reason the Beatles broke up, why do you think George Harrison and Ringo Starr played on "How Do You Sleep" when John Lennon was dissing paul the entire song. Just because i wasnt born doesnt mean that i cant read. I also know what sounds good and MJ sounded damn good black.

PS. BGIF the Elvis line is a lyric from "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy. Though there were rumors of Elvis's racism, there is nothing really substantial. But personally i place Elvis along with Madonna. All Image, no substance.

The reason Elvis gets so mush love is because he was the first White Rock Star, thus making him the best. The only comparison i could think of is Babe Ruth (Ruth was the shit though, dont get me wrong). He is considered the best, but people forget players like Josh Gibson who was comparable.
