I live about 10 miles from Pitt, so I am headed down to the game today.
I'll say this, the basketball team today has a better chance of winning than the football team did at USC.

I'm not sure what I think. My mind says Pitt but of course my heart wants Notre Dame. Can we beat Pitt? Yeah probly. Just depends on what team shows up. We have lost 5 in a row to ranked teams and thats just not good enough. This has to be one of the most dissapointing teams under Brey in a LOOOOONG time. Severely overrated.

Just remember too that before all our vbucks were reset to 25,000, I was the one who had the most loot I believe and I never hesitated to loan big chunks of money to some of you. Luke Zellar doing his best KMAC impersonation. 6 threes in the first half. Maybe that early wake up call woke up Mr. Zellar. Just hope we get some more work out of the inside game (which means Luke since he's our only inside presence. Overall, you've got to be happy with the first half lead. Let's hold it...scratch that...let's blow them out of the water. How great would it be to win by double digits. Make a statement fellas!

We can still get back into this game. Down by 10 with 5 left. KMAC and Ayers have to start hitting shots. Have some confidence kids. Be tough.

I was the game, and I saw alot of good things. Zeller shot lights out. Hillesland was more aggressive and had a decent game. Ayers finally made a shot, and Luke was his normal beast like self. Bottom line though this game was lost on the offensive glass.
I for one am not giving up. We are 12-8, not 6-14 or something like that. The schedule lightens up a bit. But bottom line we need to beat Cincy and UCLA next week. If we do that we are right back in the thick of an NCAA bid.
Not the way I wanted the season to go through 20 games. But it is what it is. But as far as I know the team is going to play the last 10, so I am going to cheer them on.

I like your optimism Padomernut. We got beat today by a better, more aggressive team. Zeller was hot, but disappeared in the second half. Seems to be a trend with us this year in that, we have a lot of great one-half performance. Sometimes it's too late (KMAC vs UNC) and sometimes it's too early (Zeller today). We are a team that, when we don't shoot very well from behind the line, we can not hang with the good teams in the country. Not to say that's a bad thing. It's just our MO. We are a jump shooting team with one player who has an inside presence. It's how we were built. No matter what Luke does inside, we win or lose by the 3. With that said, I agree that we can still win a lot of games and get into the tourney...our players just have to get their confidence back that they seemed to lose after losing some close games early on this 5 game stretch and I agree that we must beat Cincy and UCLA next week.

If it's any consolation, Georgetown is in the EXACT same boat that we are, and I dont think anyone doubts they are capable of turning it around and making the tournament.
Lets just start with Cincinnati. If can beat them, maybe we can get our confidence back and things can start to roll a little bit.

Yur absolutely right. Georgetown is exactly in the same boat. I believe that they have a few wins though against ranked opponents. We dont have any (Cuz Georgetown is ranked no more). We have to beat at least 3 QUALITY teams in order to get in the tournament.
We have to start with Cincy and it would be nice to be able to stun Ucla on the road. Gonna be an uphill battle for the Irish. I guess were just going to have to wait and see but I'm still sticking with my original prediction of barely making the NIT.

You are right it will be an uphill battle. But it is not impossible. Keep in mind our win over texas is a quality win. I am tired of making predictions and saying this team needs to do this and needs to do that to make it. Lets just start with Cincinnati and go from there.

One funny note about that game yesterday. This guy who was sitting in front of me, obviously a Pitt fan, was getting furious that the Pitt student body was chanting "NIT, NIT, NIT"
His quote was, "How can they be so stupid, this is the big east! We want the NCAA's , not the NIT!"
Uhhhh yea pal I think they were taking a jab at ND. Lets see Pitt has been to the tournament how many years in a row? They are third in the country. I would assume that anyone who has the intelligence to spell their own name correctly could have figured out what the students were doing, but apparently this einstein couldnt.
Then again Mark May went to Pitt, so who knows....
