First, let me say I don't know squat about recruiting but it seems to me that there is something unethical, even though it's not illegal, to go after recruits already verbally commited to another school. Florida has now brought in to their 2007 class 8, repeat 8, commitments from other schools. I find nothing wrong with a commit who, on his own volition, decides to decommit for another school as long as the other school's coaching staff stays out of his decision. Florida has gone after commits with a vengeance and apparently been very successful. I also think it's time to do away with verbals and have the written commit much earlier than the February signing date. After all, a lot of effort goes into recruiting for position and once the recruit signs, he should be honor bound to fulfill that commitment or if not, lose a year of eligibilty for reneging. That would stop a lot of the current backstabbing going on..even today.. though it may be a bit harsh!
