"Now that QB Jimmy Clausen has committed to Notre Dame, the best available uncommitted prospect in the nation may be RB Marc Tyler, Clausen's teammate at Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.). He's a big, complete back who might be the best player on his high school team, which features eight legitimate Division I-A prospects. Southern California was worried Tyler also would commit to the Irish, but he and other city players reportedly weren't enamored of South Bend. . . ."

Source: TheSportingNews.com

it was a pretty good topic. plus i recall that the source was a usc assistant coach. wouldn't an assistant coach discussing a specific recruit be a recruiting violation? or is that just for head coaches?

Well, in my opinion, one of two things happened here: 1) Tommy Boy is making up a fake source to cover his ass for his shoddy journalism and pathetic attempt to sell magazines or 2) a USC assistant did tell him, which I would think is a recruiting infraction per Rule 13.10.2 of the NCAA Men's Football Recruiting Guide.

Per the NCAA Men's Football Recruiting Guide:

"Before the signing of a prospect to a National Letter of Intent or an institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid, an institutional staff member may comment publicly only to the extent of confirming the institution’s recruitment of the prospect. An institutional staff member may not comment generally about the prospect’s ability or the contribution the prospect might make to the institution’s team. Additionally, an institutional staff member may not comment in any manner about the likelihood of the prospect signing with that institution. [13.10.2]"

Which is it, Tommy?

I have to say that when reading 06's post, for some reason I was hearing the post in my head with Earl's brother's voice. Speaking of that show, I wonder if USC believes in Karma?

Here's the original article that started the thread. I'm not sure who started the thread

Deinhart doesn't spreading rumors

And here's the flash from the past - Deinhart is a ND hating Purdue grad

A little Quinn bashing

Original posted here - Credit goes to Irish9331

And because I like the line so much ... I like The Sporting News, but I think Deinhart has his head jammed right up his boilermaker.

That rebuilds as much of the thread as I can remember.

i swear someone emailed him to mention the article about how marc is 70% leaning toward nd, but the response cited an assistant at usc.

i want to make sure someone else remembers (and i wasn't just reading what i wanted to) so we can add another flub-up to the mess usc is creating in toolland.

You read right, I emailed him yesterday asking him who he had heard, "Southern California was worried Tyler also would commit to the Irish, but he and other city players reportedly weren't enamored of South Bend. . . . " and he replied back to me with this statement: "Well, my source was a USC assistant coach."
I also mentioned the scout.com article about Tyler being 70% sure about ND.

If he is smart he will come to ND. I think Jimmy will be in his ear nonstop until he commits. How could he not be enamored by ND. His best friend just got the best treatment available, and is being treated like a god. Who wouldn't want that?

He said that both he and dad had a great time at the Blue and Gold Game. Consider the source of the article and his source.

I covet Tyler. He is a complete back and might be the best player on Oaks Christian, though that might be sacriligious to say at this point. If they take only one RB this year, I hope it is this kid.

I took your suggestion and emailed Tom Dienhart the NCAA rules. I also let him know that it was implied his the source was a USC assistant coach. I stated if he cooked up the source that it would be very unprofessional as a reporter to do. Here was his reply,

"No where in the INSIDE DISH I wrote last week does it say who my source was. And, yes, I had a reliable source. If I "cook up" stuff, I get fired by my boss. Believe me.
It says the following concerning USC in my INSIDE DISH. No where do I site a USC coach as the source:

"USC was worried Tyler also would commit to the Irish, but he and other city players reportedly weren't enamored of South Bend."

It took him less than two minutest to reply, I wasn't even expection one at all.

Guys and Gals, don't e mail him, don't post about it and don't even acknowledge the story. It is EXACTLY what he wants. The guy has been given enough attention over it on all of the boards already. That USC Assistant could have told him that who knows when.

Right now, I wouldn't call USC the beacon of college football anymore. They have some issues there and I'm sure that when they get questioned they'll spin a real nifty sell to recruits and their parents.

Any question about who is in charge at ND? Nope. The inmates have taken over the SC asylum.

I'm not trying to nail this guy. I'm just having a little fun with him. He just needs to watch out that he not "cooking" some of his stories. Not only will it get him fired, it might hurt innocent people. He obviously lacks one essential in reporting, objectivity. However, if the it ever came where he's citing real suspicious sources, I would have no problem writing his editor.

I think we have a lot playing in our favor to get Tyler's commitment:

1. We have Clausen, and he lives with this kid. As time goes on, its going to be increasingly difficult for him to look another way.
2. USC and UCLA already have RBs, and he could be the feature back at ND
3. I don't think the recent USC events are winning Wendell Tyler over, and in the scouts article it talked about Wendell really liking ND.
4. As much as Michigan wants this kid, if he is leaving Cali, I think he is only leaving for ND.

my two cents

I just don't give these dopes the satisfaction anymore. They want the attention, trying to make bigger names for themselves.

With Barry Bonds at 712, I'm preparing myself for the massive amounts of crap Jason Whitlock is going to squeeze out of his ass that is bound to piss me off royally if and when I read it.

Speaking of Bonds, I'm heading to Miller Park tomorrow to catch "the" ball if he hits one tonight. Hate the guy but would love to catch the ball that ties or even passes Ruth.

It will probably dripping with human growth hormone.

I finally finished Game of Shadows last night.

Two things: 1. This guy needs serious mental help. He is a sick, disturbed man. The apple didn't fall far off of the jerk tree, that's for sure. His dad was a drunken ass towards him and he basically acts the same way to others as his dad did to him.

2. All those years we scoffed at the Germans, Russians and China for using steroids. Turns out everything USA Track and Field did from Barcelona on was probably a farce.

Sorry to get off topic. That book really made me mad.

GOOD GOD!!! That could be the worst natural disaster of all time!!!! We need to prepare NOW...........Jigga, advice: DON"T READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, to everyone, if some DimWhitlock, Ms. May, Col. Saunders, the UBICH midgets (Bob Ryan and Lupica), A. Grant, Dodd, Dienhart, etc. write something stupid, bad, attacking about ND, the key is NOT to respond to them or post a link to what they say, but rather to COPY their tripe and PASTE it. That way, we don't drive up their hit meter artificially (sort of like Bonds and his stats), which is what their editors want. They don't care for facts/evenhandedness, they want EYEBALLS.

They're going to keep their jobs regardless. Didn't Lupica get caught fabricating a source and they only suspended him for awhile? These guys sell papers because of drivel like this. It is fun pointing out how much of a hack he is though...
