There was a thread 2 years ago about defensive players winning a Heisman. There are many ifs and it would take a perfect storm but if this defense gets better, and if this team improves in the next 2 years to a BCS berth this great young man could win a Heisman. Unlike other great defensive players that have been worthy he would have Notre Dame cache' and maybe a pro (sympathetic) Notre Dame media slant as the team climbs back. Question is will he be just a great player on a mediocre team. Way to go and thank you Manti Teo for being Irish. He may go down as one of the best to ever suit up for The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Yes but the years of a defensive player winning that are long gone.

It is actually unjust to only give the H to the offense. The trophy should be split into two, one for the offense and one for the defense, or it should be renamed "For the best Offensive player in 20xx."
Does anyone really believe that the all best football players in the past fifty or so years have been on the offensive side of the ball?
Manti is really a credit to his family, ND and himself.

The Heisman is a joke.

It goes to the best player on one of the best teams.

Not the best player in the country like it is supposed to.

Anyway, I think Manti will stay for all 4 years.

PS... I have a good feeling about today's game with Utah.

Charles Woodson also played on offense and Kick off returns, although he was mainly a defensive player.
The closest current player to him is that SOB on Stanford.
