2 more picks tonight, bringing his season totals to 3. He also has 2 fumble recoveries and has been the undeniable leader of one of the best defenses in the country.

I know defensive players almost never win this award, but it's about time number 5's name was at least thrown in the discussion.

I have a better chance of nailing Kate Upton, and Jessica Biel in the same night than Teo does at winning the Heisman.

Last time a defensive player won the Heisman was 15 years ago... I think. Pretty sure Woodson was the last to win on defense; and he won mostly because of his kick returns + CB duties as second fiddle.

Plus the heart string tugging story about a boy passing over SC to play football in the cornfields. Enter James Earl Jones, Kevin Costner and Taylor Lautner (as Teo).

seconded. Whether he "has a chance" or not is hardly the point of this thread. So enough of those dumb comments.

In reality, he is definitely in the conversation about best player in college football. But thats not really what the Heisman is anymore, is it?

Before last night's game against Michigan the TV announcers were building up Denard Robinson, calling him the best player on the field. By half-time their tune had changed and Manti Teo was the best player on the field.

Denard is an excellent player, but Manti proved that he was by far the best player on the field in last night's game. His pass coverage was excellent and he was Denard's worst nightmare.

Manti may not win the Heisman, but he will have a far better NFL career than whoever does win it. Let's promote Manti for the award few could question, the "Butkus Award".

I've been pretty hard on Manti in previous years, claiming him to be a bit over rated and lacking of impact plays.

This season he's finally living up to the hype.

This team feels like a mini version of the Ravens.

Numer 5 has my vote and I believe he snagged 3 of Denards wounded duck pass's last night, Number 5 was every where the ball was.
Should he win the award? HELL YES he should!

I'm not saying he will win it. That's not the point of the thread, because we all know he would have to have one of the best seasons a linebacker's ever had and Notre Dame would have to win 11+ games, but I'm just saying he deserves to be mentioned in the conversation.

He's clearly one of the best players in college football. Obviously the Geno Smiths and Braxton Millers of the world will get all the hype because of ESPN, but Te'o is more than deserving of being in the conversation.

Add in the obvious backstories and the fact that he's one of college football's unfortunately-few "good guys," I think that if he keeps playing like this he deserves an invite to New York.

He won't win it but he should have a seat in New York....That would be the most he would receive as far as the heisman. If he doesn't win the butkus ill be dumbfounded.

his only competition for the butkus, lombardi etc will be jarvis jones who will probably rack up crazy sack numbers against the lesser SEC defenses

If Notre Dame goes undefeated, 12-0, Te'o will win the Heisman. As long as no player has a ridiculous season, which at this point no one is separating themselves.

I think he definitely deserves a seat in New York. He is a great representative of Notre Dame and is what NCAA sports and college football should be (used to be) about.

He had 2 picks, but also caused 2 more. Those 2 came when he was driving Denard into the ground while Denard desperately got rid of the ball, and we ended up with it. It was an absolute hell of game by Manti.

I agree that he's more than a long shot to win it, but if he keeps this kind of play up, and no one else separates himself, Manti certainly deserves an invite to New York.

Geno Smith is having a hell of a season. 98-118 for 1072 yards. 12 tds 0 ints in 3 games.

lol, look at the number of 1st place votes for Te'o... ND nation showing up strong, too bad the rest of the world hates anything associated with ND and probably put Te'o last on the ballot.

Agree with this 100%. Manti transcends stats, and is everything that is right with CFB. You would see 4 in New York for the ceremony with Barkley, McCarron, Thomas, and Te'o. I think Heisman voters will rally around our guy.

You don't have to sip kool-aid to see that if we play disciplined football we will be 7-0 travelling to Norman. From there, the nation's greatest player will showcase his leadership on the grandest stage and become the front runner. Believe.

Notre Dame has to keep winning as the d is really winning these bigger games but this guy is the best football player in America. Would they do it/would they vote a d guy in/do they know the type of man this is/ he would be such an added credit to Heisman ceremonies down the line. There is a chance the voters are looking to change things up and get away from the spread QB or the rusher with the most yards on a winning team. The may be a perfect storm brewing for this to happen. One things for sure-he's Notre Dame and we are proud of him. I mentioned this 2 years ago and at the time it seemed stupid and far fetched but know he has a cast of d players around him and Notre Dame is winning. College football needs this for the image of their game-much like Tebow only better.

Nope, for defensive player to win he has to go above and beyond just averaging 10-12 tackles a game. Woodson didn't win because he was the best CB, he won because he played offense on occasion and was the best return man in the country as well. He put points on the board. Look at Honey Badger last year, he made plays when they counted which is why people took notice.

Te'o need to make game changing plays on the regular. He needs to force turnovers. He needs to score some touchdowns. An invite yes, winning on defense takes a lot more than dominating defensively.

Disagree with you on this one. As I said a few posts up, what Manti does for this team transcends stats. He wills his teammates to play better, they want to play better for him. A win in Norman and LA would no doubt have his footprint on the outcome in some way.

He's a few drug issues away from Honey Badger, not a good comparison IMHO. His invitation to NY was in spite of his character.

125 tackles, 5 or 6 picks, 3 or 4 sacks, 12 wins. Engrave his name on the trophy.
