Go Angels

I grew up in Orange County, even went to school for a year in Anaheim, so I LOVE the Angels. I was shocked that we didn't go after him after losing Texiera. But I'm happy for the Dodgers, despite the fact that I can't stand their owner. I live near L.A. and I work in L.A., so I root for them when they're not playing the Angels. It's good for the city, because the fans really rallied behind him. And hell, the team hasn't built a winner in 20 years but yet the Dodger's fans are among the most loyal around, selling over 3 million seats yearly. Good for them...

yeah it STUNS me to think that those same people who bleed dodger blue no matter what are the same people who band wagon hop on and off the Laker/Trojan bandwagon as the weather goes, know nothing of those two sports respectively, and talk shit like they where there when Van Exel and Larry Smith lead those teams... BUT they know baseball and support their Dodgers.... wierd really

this is why Colin Cowheard is dead wrong in saying ONLY Stl Boston and NY are baseball towns anymore and LA is totally a basketball town... LA is a Laker town when they are winning... but it's a baseball town no matter what the Dodgers do... and throw in the Angels just up the freeway??? Forget it, LA is "St. Louis west coast" when it comes to baseball

also, I too have been by the Angels forever and grew up HATING the Dodgers... but that has tailed off in recent years... now I'm pretty neutral towards them

The opposite is true for me. I was raised a Dodger fan. As a kid, my parents pulled me out of school to go meet the 81 World Series team as they arrived back at LAX. However, after so many years of dissappointment and bad trades, the trading of Paul Lo Duca (spelling?) was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Dodgers were in first place and Lo Duca was the emotional heart and soul of the team. Writers from the local newspapers commented about how they hadn't seen a Dodger clubhouse that upbeat in years and Lo Duca was at the center of it. That did it for me. I divorced them and now I don't really have a team. I like the Angels a bit, but all the fair weather Orange County fans make me nuts. Plus, many Angel fans are also punk-ass mother f'ing Duck fans and I freaking HATE the Ducks!!!

I have been an Angels fan since I was a kid and have always hated the Dodgers. Us becoming relevant lately has been nice, but I remember the days of Chili Davis and Wally Joyner and being excited with 60 wins. Besides, Angels games are so much cheaper and you don't have to worry about being stabbed by the somewhat suspicious crowd at Chavez Ravine.

I was glad we didn't go after Manny because he can't play Angels baseball. We rely on excellent base running and impeccable defense, and we both know he isn't very good at both. Gosh I wish we had resigned Texeira though.

Or worry about sitting in traffic for two hours after the game while trying to get to the freeway which, oh by the way, is RIGHT NEXT TO DODGER St.!!! that always kills me, yet it's on and off in no time at the big A...

I loved Wally Joyner as a kid... and honestly the Angels had some pretty good teams in the 80's and 90's... two playoff teams two or three teams that finished second... thier was always this loser aura about them growing up that I could never understand... yes every four or five years they'd have a bad year but the other three to four years they were quite competitive...

Random Memory, I remember the Bo Jackson year... I was at a game against Baltimore where he hit a BOMB in the 8th to win the game... actually, I miss the old big A sometimes... the Angel/Rams cartoons on the walls and such... awesome... and the food under Gene Autry was MUCH better than it is now...

I wish we had got Tex too... whole different club without him, but I like the Fuentes and Abreu pickups... Plus I am very confident that Kenrdy Morales will have a big year, the kid is still only 24 and people forget that, those Cubans don't mess around, He'll come up big... I think we are still obviously the team to beat in the West... (Texas and Oakland have some hitters but who the hell is gonna pitch for them??) but we have a long way to go before we think about turning around our October woes...

oh yeah, this thread was officially hijacked by Angel fans and I approve this message

I see what you're saying Golden about Manny not playing Angels baseball, but dude, that guy can play ANY type of baseball. We desperately need his type of bat come playoff time. Don't get me wrong, I love Mike Scoscia (sp???) and everything that he's done for the team and the franchise, but there's nothing wrong with having a guy who can work the count and smash bombs to drive in all those runners on base. I too like the free agent pickups (tough to replace 62 saves, but at least my fiance will appreciate me having more head on my hear not having to suffer through a K-Rod save).

Good to hear from fellow die-hard Angel fans. My 4 older brothers and I grew up through the debacles in '79 (I was only 5 though), '82, '86, and '95 (was that the Seattle year?). After '95 they were through with the Angels. I was the only one who stuck with them, good times and (mostly) bad. As a reward, my rich oldest brother surprised me on the morning of Game 7 vs. SF with 2 field level tix for him and I. Best sports experience of my life...
