already posted...I agree with some points but I think it is just an all out attack on Weis

The one point I took out of this article is what Sarcisan from USC stated about their fall practices. This point is huge on how CW has failed to evaluate players.

"The pace of practice is quite a bit slower in the NFL," said USC's Sarkisian, whose team goes "full contact" nearly every day in the preseason and three days a week in-season. "We practice at a very high level. There's a lot of competition going on."

CW did not even have one take um to the ground full contact practice. How do you evaluate players when you don't do this. I bet he learned this lesson the hard way.

Which could explain why the mistakes that ND has continued to make over the past three years haven't gone away yet (i.e. - penalties because of bad technique, bad tackling, etc). However, this year that philosophy (no-contact practices) has been fatal to the development of this team. The Oline can't block, the tackling's bad, and the execution is almost non-existent. I give Weis 2 more years and then I'll make a judgement on his overall ability to coach. There is no question though that he has failed miserably this season. What we have to remember though is that he is an inexperienced college head coach. Stewart Mandel saying that he is a "lousy college coach" after one bad year is just his way of piling on to get his article read. He's been lousy this year, but I don't think he is a lousy coach. These here are excrutiatingly painful growing pains that we are going through right now. I feel it, you feel it, we all feel it. Nobody is happy with the product that is put out on the field. Nobody. I think we have and are getting the players to change that. I hope that changes will also be made at certain coaching positions and with coaching philosophies. The media is just having a field day with this one. Want someone to read your article these days? Just trash ND. Everybody's doing it. It's like crack back in the '80s.

I don't disagree with much of the facts put forth as mistakes CW made, and the author does point out that CW has taken much of the blame.

But you can also tell the author veered away from the main point of the article (NFL coaches may not be able to transition to college) to Weis is a lousy coach. Only a paragraph or two are devoted to other examples of NFL turned college coach failures.

But here's what I found funny. While painting Weis as a lousy coach who doesn't get it, he also gives Carroll a backhanded compliment, noting he has been successful, but oh ya he SUCKED IN THE NFL.

So the real message to the AD's should be don't get guys with success in the NFL, get guys who sucked like Pete Carroll sucked. Sorry, I just like saying Pete Carroll sucked.

Could many explanations be offered why even an experienced college coach may not have had much more success than 6-6 this year? Yes, but we've discussed that ;)

Never mind that many of his key contributors had never played in a live college game.

Football is a physical game. Bones break. If you can't deal with the physical, leave the game. It was apparent to me a long time ago that CW is protecting his athletes from broken bones.

Wanna get good at football? Do football.

Don't think about it.

ND is not "playing" football. ND is thinking football.

That's my perception.

Not bad Wham. Not bad at all. I don't think he's keeping them exclusively from broken bones, injuries in general is more likely. And I agree we're thinking too much and not just going out and dominating physically.

I have a problem with an article that quotes a "Superprep analyst" as the expert.

"Rather than sit there and make excuses and talk about the volume of numbers in the upper classes, you just have to say you didn't do a good enough job of putting them in a position to win," he said after the Navy game. "I take all the responsibility."

Weis, however, is one of the few vested parties who will not pay a price for this disastrous season. He will still pocket his $3 million-plus for what has essentially been a year of on-the-job training.

CW made an excuse when he talked about the volume of numbers in the upperclasses. Then he said he would not make excuses. Saying "I take all responsibility" at this point is entirely hypocritical. What else can you do when you don't know how to coach a football team...

A football coach/athlete/fan should not keep them from any injury. They should challenge the injury by attacking. A football player, on the field, should always expect to attack. Everyday. Everyplay.

CW is taking the pansy gentleman approach.

(I'll blame CW cuz I have nothing else to do today. Phaulk it - he's getting paid millions for this farce. He can afford it.)

CW has made mistakes but the way some of the other coaches talk it seems like the team can't afford to lose anybody. It seems like they just need guys there to be able to go at it hard. Think about how many guys did USC have on the o-line or D-line that they could put in if someone got hurt and how many ND has. The NT got hurt and ND has one guy to come in and that is it in a three man line that is just sad. How can you go full speed when your #s are that low? I think some people really don't know what shape ND was in and how the coaching staff are dealing with it. CW said that ND was at 70 players think about the other 15 guys being O-line(6) or D-line(6) and three of whatever kind of player you want and this team is able to go full speed. I might sound like a kool-aid drinker but I look at the #s and what do you do you, if Laws goes down due to all out practice who steps in for him that can do something close to what he is doing. ND has a problem bigger than going full speed and it looks like the coaches are fixing it.

LOL.

Why would you get run out? For weeding out the wannabees? CW & co. needs to weed out the wannabees. Narrow the team to about 70. Get rid of the Rudys. Keep the football players.

I have heard CW's and everyone else's concerns over our numbers and not getting anyone hurt. Well, in 2008 we will have a FULL compliment of scholarship bodies and plenty of walk on folks. Let um beat the tar out of one another in camp. Lou used to take his guys to the edge of breaking. This made them beasts on Saturday.
