Make or Break Game

In Weis' first two seasons we lost an early game in September and bounced back going 7-1 down the stretch in 2005 and in 2006 winning 8 games in a row. Is this the type of game that will propel us to a 10-win season or to a marginal year and Weis being fired?

My prediction for this year was 10-2 with a loss to USC and a loss to either Michigan or MSU. I still think 10-2 is possible, and I'm sticking with that prediction.

''I told them the same thing that Coach said,'' Clausen said. ''We have to decide how we're going to go from here.''

hopefully they respond well this week

I would say that next week's game is the biggest of Weis's career at ND. I think regardless of the outcome he will get the full season, but it would be very difficult to come back if we drop the next one. If we can win, we have the opportunity to get on a little bit of a roll before SC comes to town.

I think this defense is better suited to play a traditional offense lke Michigan State's. I also think that this team is mentally strong enough to come back from one loss, but 2 will really test them, which makes this next game all the more important.

This just sucks right now, but i dont know about you guys, but the sooner I can talk about MSU the better I feel, I dont want to think about UM.

You know MSU is going to be PISSED off after their loss today, but so will we, we will need to match the intensity.

Agree completely, with all the momentum that could come from a win over MSU, this could very well be the biggest game of Weis' career.

OK I'm going to do it no matter how much $^%@ I get from my buddys on this board-its official write it down- I said 10/2 a month ago and neither lose was to SC. There's still a lose in the pile that probably shouldn't happen but they beat SC.

The MSU game is by far the most important game. The way our team performs will determine alot. Our defense is better suited for this type of game and our offense is clicking on all cylinders. After watching USC and seeing MSU go down if our team decides to play with a chip on their shoulders, There is not a team on the schedule that can beat us. If Weis is worth anything as a coach we will know by how theteam plays next week.

If Charlie Weis loses to Michigan State at home this saturday he will be fired. That will mean that State has beaten Notre Dame at Notre Dame 8 years in a row. To me the Michigan game was his most important. But now its safe to say he cant lose this game or any more than 1 more. I'm still going with my original prediction of 8-4 or 9-3 and Weis gets fired.

I think 8-4 he gets fired, he may be able to keep his job at 9-3. Depends on who the losses are to and what type of game it is. Either way he will be here through the end of the season.

I will say this, USC looked AWFUL last night. I also dont want to hear how their freshman QB came of age last night. He had like 2 passes on the final drive, the rest was on the ground. He was 15-31 for 194 and a pick. They only put up 18 points. Navy put up 27. They looked awful.

And Western Michigan only allowed 31 to Michigan so what does that say about us. Pete Carrol just took a freshmen QB on the road against a Top 10 team and won the game. When was the last time we beat a Top 25 team, home or away?

Thank you for taking my post completely out of context. I was just saying USC looked awful. Nothing to do with us. Also did you watch the UM vs WM game. UM called off the dogs later in the game.

And if Ohio State is a top ten team, then I am sleeping with Eva Longoria tonight. Good defense, TERRIBLE offense.

It's been too long, that's for damn sure.

But I'll tell you this, if you're going to compare him to Poodle, then you HAVE to talk about academic standards. Simply have to. I live out here. I work across the street from USC. I know someone who works directly under Mike Garrett. It's a joke how poor their academics are out there. They have 'football' majors (which of course ND doesn't have), and they still graduate only 54% of their players. And that's with only ONE guy leaving to the pros early each of the past 3 years. It's pathetic. Guys get called into Garrett's office ALL THE TIME and get chewed out for skipping class. What happens to them? NOTHING. I would give my left arm to see Rey Malauga's transcripts. Same for Mike Williams, who I know for a fact NEVER went to class (I know someone who took 2 classes with him, it was a running joke on camous). I could literally go on and on.

Yes, Poodle has it going on down there at USC. He's a perfect fit for college. But he has help. He has a 'decided systemic advantage', and that's the system that separates USC from Stanford and ND. I'm not defending Weis here, I'm just saying that those D-linemen that Poodle gets can't even spell Notre Dame much less attend our damn school. And not being able to stop the run is why we lost...

The season is far from over. The last three national champions have had at least one loss. This loss can be overcome and there were several positives to be taken from the game. I have to agree with Olsen and the inference he had in his sloppy statement . . . Michingan did not beat ND, ND beat ND.

With that being said, the MSU game is the first of ten must win games to get to the NC game. If the team's goal is to only get to a BCS game, they have one more loss to give away. The team did prove they are willing to play to the last whistle, which is a huge improvement over the past teams.

2 clutch passes for 42 yards.

Fair enough.

Tough part of that is we're going to have get used to mediocrity because we'll never be able to compete with that.
