In a world and society where the term "hero" is over-saturated, this man was a true hero.

He accomplished much, endured much, and inspires much.

Thank you for your service to our country....and thank you for telling your story. You will be missed.

The man lived an extraordinary life (a former Olympian who spent 47 days lost at sea and two more years as a prisoner of war during World War II). Rest in peace.

In related news, they are currently in production of a movie about his life called, "Unbroken". Directed by Angelina Jolie.

The Coen's may have written the film, or produced it?

I read awhile back (so this info isn't gospel and somebody feel free to correct me where I'm wrong) that the rights to his story were first gained something like 50-60 years ago. Somebody big (Kirk Douglas?) was attached to it and/or owned the rights. But it never materialized. Then the rights were sold, and again it sat for years and years.

I am truly amazed it has taken Hollywood soooo long to make a film and tell the story of this guy. I'm glad the Seabiscuit lady was able to tell the story through a book though.

The author of Unbroken is Laura Hillenbrand.

I heard today that Universal (may have been a different studio) has owned the rights to the movie for 53 years, so yes you are correct.
