Go to the Dublin Pub and get a Ruck with bacon. It's beef brisket on a sourdough preztel bun. Best sandwich ever!

Great Thai food down the street called Thai 9.

Dublin Pub has a big selection of beers as does Thai 9.

Also decent night life in that area. Called the Oregon District.

If your a little farther north and want some wings, stops at Hinder's in Tipp City.

Best mexican in the area is La Fiesta in Troy(15 minutes north of Dayton.)

I had mexican food in Cali, I was not impressed, and I HAVE eaten mexican food in Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallerta, and Cancun. I've even had deep fried grasshoppers (without prior knowledge) so I know what mexican food is supposed to taste like. It wasn't bad food in Cali, but not enough to make me jump back on a plane to go back.

Primanti Bros makes me want to drive to PA and get a sammich though.

South Bend has the best little walk up taco stands on the west side. Tourists aren't brave enough to venture thatta way, but instead of getting a KOC steak sandwich at your next ND game, go to La Esperanza and get a burrito. OLE

Lou Malnati's deep dish in Chicago by Navy Pier, is the best deep dish on the planet.

Been to Dublin Pub, but I had about 10 black and tans and had to walk back to the hotel....

My angle is more on authentic taste not locality. And I was born in Salt Lake City, Mr. I didn't say it was better, I said it was authentic. Next time you come to South Bend TRY La Esperanza. You won't be disappointed. There is a HUGE Hispanic population in southwest lower MI and Northern IN, several Hispanic grocery stores and lots of restaurants with authentic food. Don't knock it till ya try it. That's all.

I hate living in Cali for the most part, but two things it has without question... weather, and the best overall food in the country... good Italian, great Chinese, great Japanese and the best, most authentic Meixcan in the country by far, may be hit and miss, (where isn't with Mexican) but when it hits it is the best food of any kind... add In N Out and Roscoe's for your soul food and unless you live off mid west BBQ we got it all people.

California does not have the best food in the country! I did have an awesome Tbone at Chris and pitts though. I don't eat Asian food, I'd rather eat dirt. Roscoe's house of chicken and waffles has the best soul food?! We need to travel together. My southern family would beg to differ on that one! Haha.

and yes, we have the best food in the country all things considered... some places have soul food, and nothing else worht mentioning... some places have have BBQ and nothing else worth mentioning... Cali has a good, to great version of damn near everything but midwest pit BBQ, which is fine with me... and I'd rather eat Asain than dirt... but I guess that just speaks to our tastes overall... but it's okay, I'll allow you to join deermeat and be wrong on this.

overall I was under impressed with California. The cost of living is insane, the highways are filthy, people live on top of each other...I guess it's a melting pot of culture there and representations of different cuisine, but by far not the best. That's like saying Eddy Street commons has the best food because they got pizza, burgers, Irish food, and a jamba juice. Pfffft. Bakers I think it was called, in Redlands has great fast food, better than in and out burger. In my
opinion.

Bakers is a state wide chain, there is one right down the street from me... they have americanized mexican, burgers, sandwiches... hard to compare to any strictly burger joint. i used to live in Redlands for years, only live about 30 min drive from downtown now... and I was born in the Eddy Street commons...

anyway, I agree with your opinion of Cali on everything but food... if my travels have taught me one thing, it's this region has the best caliber and variety of food... but this is coming from someone who lives for good park ball style American, Asain and Mexican... all three are nailed here... coming from someone who'd rather eat dirt than Asain you really killed 1/3 of my love for the regions cusine right there

La Esperanza is ok. Best burrito I've had anywhere though is at Ricky's Taqueria in the Elkhart, IN ghetto though. The menu is all in spanish, and you have to watch Telemundu while you wait. I've always been the only gringo in there, so it has to be good. Locally, I think even Fiesta Tapatia is way better than La Esperanza.

I have yet to find any decent brisket in Cali. SoCal seems to be all about Tri-tip. I was talking long distance to some friends in probably Texas, and told them we were grilling Tri-tip at a cookout here in Cali. They said "What the hell is that?"

Good burgers at Fuddruckers.

Dairy Queen used to sell a "DQ Dude" which was essentially a chicken fried steak burger with mayo. Sonic used to sell one too. They both took it off the menu. Too bad. That is all I would order from those places.

Watching the Lady Gaga Monster Ball show on TV. LOL. Dang, she has lost some weight and looks like an athlete now. Geez. Catholic school girl, only 25, five Grammy Awards, twelve nominations; two Guinness World Records, her own HBO show. I am not a fan of her music (I did like Bad Romance), but her popularity has caught my attention enough to not change the station yet. I guess it is a rerun and came out yesterday and seems to be on back to back to back on cable today.... But I digress...

Saw a few hot dog comments--In Bethlehem, PA, there is a place called Potts' Hot Dogs near Moravian College. They have them on this flat top grill and they are cooking, if you ask for cheese, they will slice the dog down the middle, then use Kraft spray cheese and fill the line and then roll it back so that its cooking on the slised, cheese-filled side. Its glorious.

Also, Yocco's hot dogs is legit in Allentown. Their secret sauce is on of a kind.

Easton PA ND Fan may be familiar with Jimmy's in Easton or Toby's over the bridge in P-Burg.

Upper Peninsula of Michigan: famous for pasty's and cudighi! Anyone heard of these?! looked them up on Wikipedia, here is what I got! GREAT FOOD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH!

A Cudighi is a spicy Italian sausage that can be bought in links or can be served as a patty sandwich on a long hard hoagie roll, often with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Cudighi came from Italy to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when Italians settled there to work in the mines. They may have altered the name, but many people in the U.P. have the original recipes used by their grandparents. It can be served many ways in many Italian dishes. However, it is known as Cudighi in the Upper Peninsula county of Marquette, where it can be found at almost all the local pizza and pasty shops. The recipe for what is known as "Cudighi" is likely highly specific to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
