Irish Today update on Lawrence Wilson.

Lawrence Wilson Update

Coach Charlie Weis and Jimmy Gonzales visited the Wilson family this morning at their home. Lawrence was not home, but I spoke with his father about the visit.

"It went great," Wilson's father said. "It changed everything."

Did they re-commit to the Irish?

"No, net yet," Wilson's father said. "But we really liked what we heard."

This is a great indication of not only Wilson's increasing interest in Notre Dame, but also Weis' ability to recruit and make a great impression on families.

And let's not kid ourselves... Ohio State is an impressive team. If they don't get sanctioned, they will be in the title hunt within the next couple years. Teddy Ginn is amazing.

A couple hundred dollar hand shakes should do it.Unless the Ohio st. thing blows up in the media a little more in the next two weeks it is still an attractive place to play. They have a lot of pure athletes at that school.

Wilson today named Ohio State his leader. With all the problems Ohio State is having right now, what is this kid thinking. There very close to being put on probation.

Not to mention all the problems with the law there players have been having. One of their players was arrested for using fake money at a strip club, 2 more were arrested for assault.

Don't Wilson's parents know this. He's only 17 or 18. With all the stuff that is goin on I'm amazed none of thier commits have decommitted. Don't these kids parents see whats goin on at ohio state.

Sadly it just doesn't matter. For some reason OSU is already getting hyped into next season, and all that matters to a lot of these kids is what they do on the field.

And if they are reprimanded, you get bet both Tressle and the AD will be fired. Unless you want to go to tOSU even in the face of Armagedon, I would be running like hell from that place.

I highly doubt Tressel's getting fired any time soon, regardless of what sanctions they get. They just won a national championship a couple of years ago, that buys you a lot of time in college football. Even more than a superbowl does in the pros.

Yeah, I heard Geiger was leaving. Still don't think Tressel's going anywhere anytime soon though.

i graduated from ohio state this summer, and i had always heard stories about the football players getting all theses illegal comps. i didnt really see many of these guys, except for clarett a few times. the campus is so big. i think tressell is dirty, and eventually i think it will come out in public, more so than the clarett thing.

The thing too is Clarett is his biggest acusor, but everyone knows, Clarett is pretty dirty himself. So its really a thing of who to believe and who not to. The truth is probly somewhere in the middle.

Yes, but the AD leaving strikes me as the Captain not wanting to go down with the ship. I suspect he knows bad news is coming, and doesn't want to be the Fall Guy. But then again, he is also just an old man. They do retire eventually.

Yeah, that's why I hated when Geiger tried to make Clarett out to be the villan...but the guy who blew the whistle on the latest violation was a hero. We all know Clarett is not a saint, but the university kind of threw him under the bus when they were just as wrong with a lot of their actions.

Wilson came away very impressed with his visit to Florida this past weekend. Florida and Ohio State are his favorites.

DE Jamison, is staying with Wisconsin.

Weis really needs to get Wilson on board.

Wilson's stock is rising, he's now a 4 star player.

The entire coaching staff went on an inhome visit to Wilson yesterday, according to Rivals.

I think we'll see him come to ND....

Check this out...Looks like ND is back in the picture....We need this kid, now that Tuck is leaving.

Seven Irish assistant coaches traveled to Akron, Ohio on Sunday to visit with Wilson, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound defensive end that withdrew his verbal commitment to Notre Dame after the firing of Tyrone Willingham.

"It was a bit overwhelming," Wilson said. "But it was good. I couldn't believe all seven came. I was shocked."

Included in the Irish contingent were defensive coordinator Rick Minter, offensive coordinator Mike Haywood, recruiting coordinator/receivers coach Rob Ianello, offensive line coach John Latina, defensive backs coach/assistant head coach Bill Lewis, defensive line coach Jappy Oliver and special teams coach Brian Polian.

Head coach Charlie Weis was absent, as he was leading the New England Patriots offense to a 20-3 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC Divisional Championship game.

"My other son was home and was giving us updates," said mother Sarah Wilson.

The first stop for the coaching staff was a 3 p.m. visit to St. Vincent–St. Mary's High School to take in Wilson's basketball practice. Following that stop, the group moved to the Wilson home to discuss the future of Notre Dame football and where the defensive end fit into that plan.

"We talked about how important they felt he was," Sarah Wilson said. "They talked about how special a place Notre Dame is. We were very impressed."

When Wilson spoke with Weis on the telephone, the Irish head coach had indicated that Wilson could also line up as a tight end. That was again discussed during the visit.

"They said they didn't care what position I played," Wilson said. "They said they just want me there."

The in-home visit ended around 7:30 p.m.

Following the firing of Willingham, Wilson re-opened his recruitment and took an official visit to Florida (Jan. 5) and scheduled another to Michigan (Jan. 21). The trip to Michigan has not yet been finalized.

Recently, Wilson had named Ohio State as his leader followed by Florida and then Michigan and Notre Dame.

After today's meeting, that all could change.

"It absolutely had an effect on him," Sarah. Wilson said. "He was overwhelmed, in a good way."

For Wilson, the in-home visit moved Notre Dame back into a three-way tie with Florida and Ohio State. Now, he'll work to decide which school best meets his needs.

"Basically, I'm just looking for that comfort level," he said. "I'm looking at the whole situation. The academics and the football program."
