As a current resident of the best hall at ND (Stanford Hall) I can say that Keenan is decent. The rector, from what I've heard, is somewhat strict about parties and whatnot, so depending on what you're looking for in your dorm that could be a good or bad thing. Stanford is usually known as a party dorm, so that's close by if you want it! It is true that Keenan has a fantastic basement, and many Stanford residents take advantage of it too. Overall, most dorms at ND have their benefits and their disadvantages, but you will quickly learn that your dorm is the best. And the fact that VERY few people transfer dorms is a true testament to how great the dorm system is. Aside from some kids from Morrissey (small rooms) and Carroll (in the middle of nowhere) I hear very few complaints about dorms. And the amount of pride most students have in their dorms is great! Just wait til the Dillon pep rally to see what I mean!

And to anyone who said they're going to be in Stanford next year- I would be more than happy to help answer any questions/concerns you have! I'm going to be working frosh-o as well, so I will probably get to meet most of you come August! Get ready for the time of your lives!!

How did transferring work out for you in general? As a potential transfer student, I have heard mixed things. Some good, a lot of bad.

How was your experience? Worth leaving a good place with good academics and somewhere you DO like and have a lot of fun for Notre Dame, in your opinion (or anyone else that wants to chime in)?

I'm so on the bubble right now and kind of need to make a decision soon before I pick my classes, join a fraternity (if I stay) & really buckle down and get the 3.7+ I need. I obviously love ND and wanted to go there more than anything in the world before I didn't get in..

Well, I took your question really seriously and wrote a long, long answer. Then, I tried to post and I was timed out and lost it somehow. Which, for all the other members of the board, is probably a blessing.

My short answer to your original question is "NO." If you want to hear all the reasons I say that, PM me. Has nothing to do with "how transferring turned out for me," that's really impossible to tell. I'm happy with what I've done so far with my life, but I probably could have done it had I not transferred. On the other hand, maybe I would have gotten hit by a Bloomington city bus, or drowned in the Monroe Reservoir. Who knows? Again, I would be happy to give you my perspective of what it was like to be a transfer student at ND over 30 years ago, if you think it will assist you in making up your mind. But, I'd prefer to do it through PM just so as not to hijack this thread with another of my long, drawn-out stories and PO JohnnyKillz or some of the others--they can be pretty mean (just kidding, Killz).

But, the only advice I can give based solely on my experiences (and, admittedly, my own eclectic tastes) is to get off campus as quick as you can. (I can hear the BOOS rising already.)

No boos from me. I had an opportunity to move off campus my sophomore year but my parents' wouldn't OK it. Having meals provided, laundry cleaned, sheets changed and trash removed from my dorm room were great, but too coddling for me. Hell, as one of five children my mother, after we reached a certain age, had us doing all of those things other than cooking family meals. That changed when my mother realized I could cook edible meals for more than just myself.

I lived off campus my junior and senior years. The culture and routine were different OC, but I maintained a slew of social campus connections. Many events, many people in many dorms were involved. It added a valuable dimension to my college years. Dorm life is a good thing, especially for making friends, but consider the challenges and benefits of off campus life.

Can anyone update me on the renovations to Kennan/Stanford that happened last year? Are we talking painting, fixing things, etc. or real renovations? And is Phil still talking on his blue-tooth for hours at a time?

And I think we can all agree Morissey has the worst rooms by far. At least there's space in Kennan/Stanford. O'Neill had the best dorm rooms I've been in, but I was only there once and quite intoxicated so I could be recalling incorrectly.

In stanford they redid the bathrooms. They're pretty nice now (at least much better than what they used to be). They put in new windows which only open like 2inches and they knocked down some walls to make some bigger doubles and quads. Overall, i feel like they didn't do a whole lot.

And yes, phil still never hangs up the bluetooth haha
