Yes, he was. Also Demetrius Jones and another QB from Lansing, MI were there. Ryan, Walls, and Mullen were there. And Mike Brey's son was there.

Several high-profile high school prospects are expected to be at Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Game today, according to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.

Lemming said there could be up to 70 players in all making unofficial visits, with somewhere between 25 and 35 of them considered preseason All-Americans.

"That's an enormous group for a spring game," said Lemming, who has already visited 10 spring games around the country this year. "None had as many blue-chippers as this one."

Among the big names who have told Lemming they plan to visit are running back James Aldridge (6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Merrillville, Ind.), fullback Luke Schmidt (6-3, 230, Jasper, Ind.), running back Steve Brown (6-1, 210, Columbus, Ind.), offensive lineman Matt Trinko (6-6, 290, Oak Creek, Wis.) and quarterbacks Mike Canfield (6-2, 206, Lansing, Mich.) and Demetrius Jones (6-3, 192, Chicago).

Also expected to be visiting are defensive ends Kallen Wade (6-5, 220, Cincinnati), John Ryan (6-5, 240, Cleveland) and Paddy Mullen (6-5, 265, St. Louis), along with cornerback Darrin Walls (6-1, 175, Pittsburgh), and linebacker Nick Macaluso (6-3, 225, Middletown South, N.J.).

Lemming also said Penn tight end Kyle Brey is expected to visit. The 6-2, 230-pound Brey is the son of ND men's basketball coach Mike Brey.

Notre Dame has received verbal commitments from three players for the recruiting class of 2006 -- quarterback Zach Frazer (6-4, 222, Mechanicsburg, Pa.), wide receiver Barry Gallup Jr. (5-11 1/2, 175, Wellesley, Mass.) and running back Munir Prince (5-11, 180, St. Louis).

NCAA recruiting rules prohibit college coaches from publicly commenting on a high school prospect until the player has signed a national letter-of-intent. The first day players can sign is Feb. 1, 2006.

They need to get Walls and any other defensive backs that are out there.

This is quite a list, too.

Strozier has us as his favorite. He'll probably commit once he gets an offer

This is all promising, but there is too much time between now and signing day. If ND sucks on the field, these guys could bail out. They're selling ND on blind faith right now, but if they actually win on the field, it could be even better.

EXACTLY. Well said, Jigga. We now need actions to follow the words. However, everything coming out of Spring practice and the B/G game, has to have even the most cynical ND fan optimistic...

Oh, don't get me wrong. To this point, Weis has been more proactive in recruiting during a couple months than the last staff was in 3 years. 5 junior verbals is outstanding.

But Signing Day is a long way off. Then again, things could go well and guys will begin springing up left and right. Great problem to have.

O-Line and D-Backs are key concerns.
