according to rivals, 5***** RB Jonathan Stewart has ND back on his list, after the Ty firing, he said he was no longer interested, no it seems coach Weis has been able to re-sell the program to him

Montario Hardesty ALSO

Montario Hardesty ALSO

WOW...well it is obvious to me atleast, what type of offense Charlie wants to run...with Darius, and Hoskins already on our depth chart...he has made a push for John Stewart(5star) and Montario Hardesty (4star) it seems like coach is making it clear, that while other flash in the pan programs might use a run and gun, or spread offense, coach Weis will be determined to have the most talent at his RB position, with a what looks like a good o-line recruiting class, to play good ol fashion smash mouth ND football... :rockwoot:

I've heard he's a sort of conservative religious kid, which would work at ND.

He is a little on the slow side though. There are people at ND with the same SAT verbal score he had as an accumulative average. I can't imagine he would do particularly well in school.

that's what tutors are for...on the "slow side" i don't think rivals ranks him as the #1 RB by mistake..he must be good if not great

I was referring to his smarts when I said 'slow.'

It's clear what Coach Weis is trying to do.....

He wants depth to create compition at every position. This will make all of the players on the team work harder to beat out his compitition.

We've got one hell of a coach in Charlie Weis. :violent:

ND is a family and will help it's members. Hell if he needs a tutor, he can have my number and I'll help!

That or if you watched USC pick apart OU last night, both RBs had field days because they have such different styles. It was pretty to watch.

Yup. Hoskins was supposed to be a slot receiver who could swing out for flat-passes. Walker is a true running back with lots of juke but no break-away speed. If Weis is building off of that with more backs of differing styles, we'll be set.

No recruit we missed out on in the last four years bothers me more than Bush. Damn that guy is good.

Yeah...he's scary good. Hate to admit it, but I think Willingham would have squandered that talent as well. Almost glad to see him go to SC just to be able to see what he could do.

I don't think it mattered where Reggie went. He could have went to Loser U and he would still find ways to get into the endzone.

I can't really blame The President for choosing SC over ND (I could...but I won't). USC had just won the Orange Bowl, and now Bush has been a part of two championship teams (mythical as they may be), with a chance for a third next year. Plus he's a California kid. So you get amazing weather, and a chance for a title every year...you'd almost have to be crazy to choose anywhere over USC at this point.

He took the Ty firing very badly, and first claimed he no longer had any interest. But apparently Weis has him back on board. Of course, he could follow Ty to Washington. Weis has been very classy when dealing with the players, noting that it was purely the win-loss percentage that got Ty fired, because it "just isn't good enough." But to get a kid like Stewart you really have to convince him that Weis and his staff will be better for him professionally, just as ND will be better for him academically. If this kid is what I think he is, you can also make a better argument that ND will be right for him socially (I've been told he is a fairly conservative and religious kid).

I've only heard a few snipets about Stewart, but I think his basic character and personality traits would be good matches for ND. It doesn't sound like he is arrogant or flashy, and he certainly doesn't seem like the type to get in trouble.

When I think of guys like Zorich or Rice, they may not be the smartest guys to have gone to Notre Dame, but their character and loyalty made them great representatives of the university. I have a hunch Stewart is in the same genre of player.

Obviously Weis is better for any offensive player so maybe we can lure Stewart over

I think you're right on the mark - it seems like the Admin. have been more inclined to take a chance on a kid with good character and mediocre grades versus a kid with questionable character, regardless of talent.

You've got to give Weis a lot of credit. The fact that he can 1) retain interest from kids that were upset over the firing and 2) generate visits from kids who've verbaled somewhere else - that's pretty impressive. Especially considering the fact that he has yet to be able to devote his full attention to the Irish.

More than ever, Stewart is the guy we need. Sure, he is the best running back prospect in the country, but he also has the character and personality that would make ND proud.

Hardesty skipped his official visit yesterday. I have not seen an indication as to why. Perhaps it was a personal emergency, but it doesn't boad well to have him miss out on the official visit he scheduled. And unless Haywood brings somebody from Texas, we're running short on options.

The more I hear about Stewart, the more I really think being Irish would work out well for both him and us.

Hardesty is now out of our consideration. You can bank Wells is out too. Its down to Stewart and anybody Haywood may be able to sway for the Half Back position.

Who is Shaun Dewitty? This is a new name for me. I guess we still have two realistic options, if Dewitty is also possible.

Stewart would be an absolute gem for this class based on all that has happened with the program as of recent. Stewart is a class or two above Hardesty. We'll see what happened as to why he couldn't make it. Interesting.

The guy that could get into the mix is Jerrell Wilkerson out of San Antonio. He committed to Haywood/Texas, but now the move has him considering Notre Dame, who was in the running from the start. He's 5-8, 170, but his speed is top notch. He's an all purpose back and one of the top rushers in Texas High School Football history. Tennessee was also considered. Wilkerson is right on the level with Hardesty.

Awesome we really need some speed in the backfield - walker really isnt that fast but makes good moves and really next year we r going to need a second back to play immediatly so that walker can rest some :)
