He is the All-Time NCAA coaching wins leader at 489-138-11 (.775). He has coached for 60 years at St. John's University in Minnesota (a Catholic, Benedictine University).

(After lying on the ground for a few moments, they were required to say to the person next to them, "my, isn't it a nice day today?"). The highlight of the warmup was when they went into a foot fire break down and completed a single jumping jack. Four national titles and 30 conference titles.
His players didn't call him coach. They called him John.
