I must say I'm a little disappointed in Gaines, ND showed him alot of love and offered him early. If he doesn't realize Michigan only wants him because they missed out on other people, than I'm not so sure I want him in an Irish uniform. He needs to make up his mind soon, he knows both schools very well, if he wants to go to Michigan, than so be it, just don't let this linger and then decide at the last minute, ok I'll go to Michigan.

I understand he grew up a michigan fan, but he needs to realize ND values him alot more than Michigan does. I only want guys that want to play for ND, if this kid has to question that, than I say take a hike.....

He's Irish....whatever happened to believe half of what you see and none of what you hear? He's not dumb...just trying to be polite. He knows he was passed over like month-old leftovers (maybe even year-old).

I can understand with Michigan being his childhood favorite. However, common sense should tell him that he was not top priority with Michigan. Notre Dame wanted him and went after him. Michigan got shafted and now he's their back-up plan. Michigan sucks. You guys probably can't imagine what he's going through. Think about you playing football and wanting to go to Notre Dame your whole life. However, Notre Dame doesn't recruit you. Instead, they go after the more coveted prospects without giving you so much as a glance. Then, after they get shafted they give you a call and make up lame excuses. You would probably be hurt and confused at the same time as well. I think he will end up Irish. He just needs to sort through the emotions that he's feeling. He shouldn't take too long though. lol I don't think he falls for Michigan's game. Plus, I don't think he wants to be on the short end of the stick every year either.

Gaines' HS Coach still thinks he a solid IRISH verbal; I tend to agree, just because Michigan is pursuing doesn't mean he's interested, rather it sounds like he's handling the situation in a mature way - not communicating thru the press, instead he's telling the UM coaches directly "no thanks." Here's the excerp from the South Bend Tribune:

There had been speculation that Las Vegas High School defensive back Jashaad Gaines, who committed to ND in September, had begun to receive heavy interest from Michigan.

Yes, Las Vegas coach Chris Faircloth said, the Michigan staff is pursuing Gaines. But Faircloth believes that Gaines, whose sister Tulyah is a member of the ND women's basketball team, remains a solid Irish commit.

"He'll be at Notre Dame next year," Faircloth said.

Sure hope he's right. Losing anyone to Mich would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Just typing the word Michigan leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd rather lose any of them now than as freshman or sophomore like Gardner, Olson, Parrish, Kadous, Incarnato, Nicholas, etc, etc. There's still time to replace him now with someone that wants to come - and stay. ND has to replace all these guys and Vaughn with 18 year old freshman. However talented they replacements are, they haven't had two years in the program to develop strength, technique, and maturity.

Let him look and make up his mind, now. And if he decides the grass is greener over there, give him a map and directions to get him there faster.

We can pass on another Safety this season and pick up a DT, LB or OL.

I honestly don't think I'd care as much if it were any other school...

but it's Michigan. The thought of losing a verbal to them makes me want to throw up.

Steve Brown was bad enough.

"That's not going to be happening," Gaines said of a possible visit to Ann Arbor. "Too late. I'm straight where I'm at."

Adios, scUM.

Possible we only take 23-24 to allow some early entry for the upcoming year?

We can still take early entries next year, we just won't be able to count them against this year's class. Early entries can be counted either against their current class or the previous if there is room. (Thanks to whoever it was on here who explained that to me.)

I doubt we run into the shallow roster issue like this season that forced the coaches to load the class up with so many numbers. We'll probably never need to take more than 25 again just to build depth.

However, early enrollment is still a recruiting tool for big timers that want to get a head start.
