Guys,
I just saw a comment over on Irish Band of Brothers about a rumor of him being pulled over by the SB police Saturday night. Apparently he was not happy about not getting any PT on Saturday and did a little drinking to forget. Now this is all RUMOR at this point, but was wondering if anyone knows any truth about this.
I will say that I do not blame him one bit for being pissed. In my opinion, it was complete BS that he did not get a single carry. That blame falls squarely on CW and Haywood. They talked all preseason about the 3 headed monster and it became a 2 headed one. I did not see anything out of Hughes or Allen that sold me to keep James on the bench.
For those of you who want to say, "who cares because James is third best". Consider this, we almost lost Allen and Hughes to injury in the first game. Hughes could have had a bad knee injury on his fumble. Allen could have had a concussion or neck injury on his fumble. That is how quick depth dissapears. At that point, James is the only option. This is unless James leaves like many other transfers. That leaves us with a true freshman at TB.
CW needs to recognize this is not the NFL and you can't just bring in another free agent. We need to keep every player on the team. Look at TE where we could have had Rueland, but now he is gone. Look at CB where we lost Walls for the season and Prince could have stepped in. Transfers will happen, but the coaching staff can do a better job of balancing playing time without sacrificing the level of play.
I will bet you that if James is available this week, we see him play and contribute in a positive manner. I think James gives strong effort every time he plays. He looked solid last season and did not lose the ball. Good Luck James!!!!!!!!!

I will note that if he was pulled over on Saturday, he wouldn't even be practicing right now, which he is. I smell BS.

I don't like those rumors, because, at least with transfers, they've been true more often than not. I was surprised to not see him play also. Especially after Hughes got banged up.

I hate rumors too. Especially when it might not be true....people will believe it if its put out there. Anyway, concerning his playing time, Heywood took the blame.

One other note from Haywood's Tuesday chat with the media -- regarding the run game.

"I think it was OK," Haywood said. "I didn't think it was as good as it should be. We really worked heavily on it today to increase the run game and increase productivity in it but it's at a point in time where we definitely have to get better."

He also took the blame for James Aldridge not getting in the game Saturday and said his plan was to play him in the third quarter and when Notre Dame went into more of a two-minute offense, it went away from Aldridge's type of game.

Dive,
I did see this comment earlier this week. I think the fact that Haywood did not think of putting in James after Hughes tweaked his knee and Allen was knocked out SUCKS. Are you telling me that Haywood would not think of putting in a fresh James instead of the other two who were a bit banged up. Plus, why not see if James get a good rythm because neither of the other two was finding much space. Sorry, but I am darn dissapointed in Haywood and CW on this one.

Honestly Hughes didn't impress me very much Saturday and neither did Allen. Aldridge needs to get ready for Saturday, if we are going to pound the ball against Michigan he is the man to do it (him and Hughes with a little Alen mixed in).

I totally agree this rumor is BS!!!!!! Also, not playing Aldridge is even more BS!!!! He is a nice in between Hughs and Allen...too me he has better big play capability then Hughs! Weis needs to make sure that we do not lose this kid!!!!

I appreciate your opinion, but I would tend to disagree with you on this one. Granted, I too think that Aldridge should have played some against SDSU and he does indeed bring something "special" to the RB position. Yet, I have not seen anything from him thus far (last year or the Spring game) that shows that he has "better big play capability than Hughes".

I just do not know how he goes from twice as many carries as Hughs last year too none the last game...if they are all so close I would be VERY pissed off if I was Aldridge!!!

It's not like CW is keeping better athletes OFF the field, Aldridge needs to show up in practice and work extra hard when he gets his carries on the field... I like the kid, he'll be out there soon enough

I'm not sure if this was said already, but one of the reasons Aldridge did not make it in the game towards the end is because they began running the no-huddle/hurry-up, which according the coaches Allen and Hughes were the backs who practiced those offensive sets.

Haywood said he wanted to get Aldrige in, but the play calling towards the end of the game kept him out. He says all 3 backs will get carries v. Michigan.

Whether you like the explanation or agree is not my point. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew there doesn't appear to be a move to keep Aldridge on the bench.

james needs to prepare to play and when his number is called he needs to step up and deliver. that's what being a good team is all about. having guys ready to contribute when they are called upon. i don't think james is the kind of kid to jump ship and transfer b/c things get tough. we'll find out tomorrow what he's made of and i believe he'll add value.

honestly, I think Aldridge will get a lot of playing time today, I'm thinking 15+ carries. The weather welcomes it. There should be a lot of running plays if it keeps raining. Could be a sloppy game. Even more sloppy than last week!!

Go Irish, Play your Best!!

Hey Pad,
If what you are saying is so true, how come we did not see Gray for a single play last week and Sergio is playing. Prince would have played alot this year. I agree that McNeil would be the starting CB, but Prince would have contributed

To the above comment, Sergio is straight up ballin which is why he is on the field.

But I thought James looked pretty good today, not great, but good. It was nice to see him on the field.
