>What makes Kelly’s introduction to the Irish program all the more impressive is the lack of dissention. As a result of the coaching switch, not one transfer occurred.<

This strikes me. Almost every one of these players committed to play for Weis. Not one of them has left. Pretty incredible.

Maybe they committed to Notre Dame du Lac. And Weis.

Get after it Coach.

I agree. A lot of these players committed to the University. I think its like the military: A four year committment.

BK is doing all the right things, nonetheless. At least IMHO.

Sure, but you always expect a couple of players to leave with a coaching change. I think the fact that no one has says a lot about how this team is buying in to the new coaching staff.

sadly there is still time and by the looks of it there are rumors coming out today that Shaq, Cierreand Manti are all looking elsewhere...

seriously though... I don't know how I feel about this...

“It was like practice,” Te’o said. “Coach Kelly and his staff put together a great practice atmosphere, so when we come to a game, it’s practice. Practice is harder than games, so games should be easy. Today was just a regular practice for us.”

... not attacking any methods, but this mindset from the players can be a disaster at this age level... the minute you get smacked in the mouth in a game a 20 year old kid may fold up when they come in thinking it will be a breeze compared to practice... maybe it was just Manti's wording here but it just struck me

Good thought - pause for distinction

Good thought - pause for distinction

What's the possibility we're talking two different things?

Maybe what is at effect is inside, not a tangible measure of ones work or performance capacity, but a change in perspective.

Casual observers can see the similarity of training methodology between Coach Kelly’s system and that of the military. The USMC has pushed recruits through worlds of hurt to get them to change (civilian) habits, to afford survivability and insure victory. No recruit out of basic expects combat to be easy or the same as basic training.

What they have is a very personal experience that they can draw on, where they know and are comfortable with their abilities, and that they can make it through so much more than they thought possible, and that is a huge psychological edge. There comes a place when you have been beaten, bullied, and worked past exhaustion and persevered. When you get there, you become super-realistic, almost stoic in you expectations of the sh@*storms ahead, and you just have the confidence that you will do your duty, react as trained, and win. And it is important to note that though there has always been a wide range in ages of recruits, historically many have only been 18.

I think he was referring to the conditioning and pace they play with in practice vs. a normal game speed.
