It does if two teams are ranked ahead of us in both polls and run the table.

Well lets see here OSU playes UT so naturally one won't run table and then in my statement I said if we run the table....well in order to do that we'd have to beat USC so for them to run the table is impossible by my statement.

Thing is that uhh Ohio State walluped Northern Illinois and Texas beat somebody handly but the thing is we went into Atlanta to a nationaly known team ranked in the top 25 and beat them on their own turf and it's hard to win in Atlanta. And they drop us 2 spots gimmee a break. What did Texas and OSU do beat slack tune ups while we faced a ranked team. I can't wait to see us just flat out kill PSU and regain the number 2 spot.

Way too much angst in here, guys... as our kindly skunkbear friend pointed out, one of the top 2 teams is going to drop after this weekend, and we play the #3 later this year. If we win out, the worst we can finish is #2 heading into the championship game, and that's fine by me.

As far as I'm concerned, we looked like a Top 5 team against Georgia Tech... but we DIDN'T look like the BEST team in the land. Not based solely on that performance alone. Not yet.

But it's only Week 2. Ask someone in December who was ranked #2 back in early September, and 98% of the population will have to check Google to find out.

Right now, Notre Dame needs to concentrate on beating Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Army, Navy, Air Force, UCLA, North Carolina, Stanford, Purdue and USC. THEN we can worry about what our ranking is. Forget the sportswriters... they won't really matter until November.

These games are going to be way too emotional. I can see it already after one game, a victory no less.

I am already sick of ND Football after three days from the season's start.

Get a grip and let's relax for the next 11 games.

Man...do I hear ya.

If it was the last few weeks of the season, there'd be reason for concern. Last year we started ranked in the 40's which was too low. This year with the LB question, new kicker, and lack of depth at many positions #2 was high. But beat PSU, UM, and MSU and there should be no more than the winner of the OSU/UT game and possibly USC ahead of ND at the end of September.

Just Win!

It may be true that they intentionally placed OSU and Texas 1,2 in order to build hype for their showdown this weekend. However, it's also true that many writers intentionally hyped ND to appease the appetite of voracious fans. This kind of pressure and hype is never good. Few teams overcome it.

There are several flaws with this poll. First, I concede that we're too high after playing a team that will most likely finish dead last (by a mile) in the SEC. Tennessee should be higher after an impressive win over Cal. Louisville and Auburn are too high. FSU should have gained a boost simply by virtue of defeating a much better opponent than most teams had in week 1.

I thought we would slip to #3 but #4? We didnt struggle against Ball State, it was Georgia Tech at their place.

At Thursday night's press conference CW was asked about the Tressel Ballot screwup. He responded with how he does it. He and an assistant (McDonald ??) "spend a week" on the preparing the ballot.

The following exchange should silence complaints about ND dropping two slots in the poll.

"Coach where did you vote Notre Dame this week?"

"Lower!" Coach Weis replied.

"More than one place lower?"

"Yes!" Coach Weis replied.

"How much lower?"

"Let's end it there. We're not going further." Coach Weis laughed.

"Should the Coaches ballots be made public?"

"I have no problem with that. Mine could be made public if the others are." Coach Weis replied.
