Although we are all upset about losing Darby and his elite speed that we desperately need, I was suprised to learn from Keith Arnolds article(irish.nbcsports.com) on our secondary commits that Nicky Baratti runs a faster 10yd and 20yd sprint than Darby, Kimbrow, and Bracy!
Baratti
10yd-1.36
20yd-2.42
Darby
10yd-1.52
20yd-2.57

All while being 6'2 215
May not have the flashy 40 time but has elite quickness. This kid is going to be a stud at safety.

Also C.J. Prosise finished 2nd in the state of Virginia in the 100m running a 10.9 at 6'3 195
I know Darby is a stud and we'd all love to have him but this staff has done a great job securing depth at positions of need.

Wow. Thats very impressive. IMO he is our future SS and Shumate is that Hybrid SS/DOG that Jamoris played against FSU.

Yeah all three of our safeties are great athletes. And as some people have commented, Darby doesn't necessarily fit our system, since we ask cornerbacks to step up and make tackles. We know he can run but we don't necessarily know whether he can do that ...

Not that I don't hope Darby picks us tomorrow! lol I'm sure he'll be an outstanding player, just looking for reasons to feel better if he goes with FSU

Barratti is just a flat out athlete. We are lucky to have him. And CJ may very well returning punts for us. Heck, we need someone that can actually return a put. It was nice to see Floyd take one for something like 10x the total for the year against FSU.

Man, just makes one realize how good Golden was. Every time he touched it at least I felt he can go the distance.

Go Irish!

Please keep in mind that Barrartti has not had the benefit of Coach Longo or the training table... There is no telling if he has reached his peak speed at this point... As the SEC has shown us, speed wins... we can have all the 6'5" OLB we want, but if they can not keep up with a 4.4 back, it does not do us much good when facing teams with speed.

The coaching staff wouldn't have recruited Darby if he didn't fit their system.

We actually have four great athletes coming in at Safety. Not to mention, a lot of people are forgetting about Hardy in the class before us, assuming he comes back well from his injury.

This is a good point. I think Baratti puts on at least 15 lbs., easily, and will either be a Taylor Mays sized safety or move down a level and upgrade our athleticism at LB. Regardless of what happens, we will have depth and versatility all over and be able to give teams a lot of different looks on D.

Umm, Baratti's 40 time is flashy for a guy his size.
