I am so sick of ESPN trying to compare Charlie to Ty. On the radio today they were trying to say he has not done any better than Ty in his first three years.....unbelievable.....

On sportscenter tonight they did the same thing and ESPN.com is ripping him.

I hated to see the GT game as much as anybody but I know that Charlie is building the foundation that will return the Irish to Glory.

Screw ESPN......In Charlie I Trust!!!!

I heard that one as well as Lebaturd on PTI stating that Charlie hasn't done one thing better than Ty, like it was fact. I was thinking "what about recruiting?", it's Ty's fault we're in this mess in the first place and if Ty is so great why are so many Washington about ready to get rid of him as well?

Not to mention they always throw it out as two bowl games. Under Ty is was the Gator and Insight, under Weis it has been the Fiesta, and Surgar. Plus barring an unforeseen disaster ND will be palying in a decent bowl this year as well.

They just don't have anything else to talk about and get all worked up about so this is what they picked because they know it will generate ratings.

BTW, John Saunders mentioned he thought the Irish would go 0 - 8 to start the season today.

It seems as though the obvious is always left out. If we lost a game, "it's because of his inept coaching style which would never work in college. And we will never win a bowl game ever with Charlie leading the way. It's a damn shame we treated Ty differently than our new coach. Charlie should be fired!" But what about recruiting? How far of a climb is there until the blow out losses and the bowl tragedies end? Recruiting is a 4 year cycle. If the plummet lasted for 3 years, then it will take some time and growing pains to reach expectations. But that all hinges on our current recruiting. If it stays the same or decreases, then your guess is as good as mine. But here's the clincher (John Saunders, ESPN, Pat Forde, Skipppppp....everyone in the media), Charlie has recruited year in and year out, the best talent out there. From 0 to 60 in 3 years, Weis has turned a high milage Chrysler mini van into and a sharp, speedy, BMW 5 series coupe. The media-spotlight is very small and can only cast light over certain aspects which would draw national appeal. "You either love us or hate us". But in all "truthiness", these gun slingers need to be bent over with the recruiting truth and really be given a reason to cry. If the media ever displayed all the truths, there wouldn't be any sting in a headline. Just remember Irish faithfull, when it becomes our time, imagine how huge that spotlight will be! I think that it has already effected Charlie. He is putting Clausen in isnt he ? Charlie is ready to make drastic changes from what we all saw last week.

I wish I could speak so highly of Charlie like the rest of you do, I saw a lot of his 4 star recruits get blown out of the water by a bunch of highly coached players last week...Now talent..Who had more talent last year Boise State or Oklahoma? One was just better coached. Charlie has a learning curve b/c he has not never been a head coach. Everyone should remember he was not the first choice. 19-7 is good enough for most programs, but not ND. Last year many picked ND to win a national championship and what happened?
A true genius finds a way to win with little talent against great teams which Charlie has yet to do in his 2+ years. Seven wins is not good emough for me and should not be good enough for anyh ND fan in any season. I am not calling for ND to fire Charlie.....now, but we must improve and somehow beat UM, UCLA, BC, USC at least two of these save some face. I am sick and tired of being blown out of games. GO IRISH!

PLOVE79- Rome wasn't built in a day. Rebuilding ND greatness will take some time. Those 4 star recruits you are talking about are still young and raw. It will get better, I agree 7 wins is unacceptable at ND, but the Davieham era's did do quite a bit of damage to the level and depth of talent. I also whole heartedly believe that Tye would not have won as many games as CW did the last 2 years, even with the talent we had.

Plove 79 I quit posting for a reason but I have to reply to your ridiculous post. Charlie has won 20 and lost 7 in his first 27 ballgames. That has been with less than average talent and no depth because of what Willingham left us. We will see what you are posting a year or two from now about how good of a coach we have when we win the NC! Get a freakin clue.

I live in the south (Vol Country) were they bash Phil Fulmer for winning ten games a year and its not good enough. Go root for another team if ten wins is not good enough or at least don't waste your time posting negative stuff on Irish Envy

Oklahoma may have had more talent last year, but most of that talent was far less experienced than Boise St.'s group of players. Plus that same veteran group aslo knew how to win at the college level. It's not just talent, or experience, it both. To be an elite program in college football you need to have a constant flow of experienced talent, and then mix in the really special underclassmen that are freaks of nature.

Yes, it is, but if you really look closely ND did not have near the talent of the teams that beat them bad. And another thing you have to consider is ND's lack of depth. Was there young talent behind them contstantly pushing them to get better? The anwser to that is no. Most people become complacent with where they're at if they're not push to be at their best, it's just human nature for most of us. Lastly you have to wonder if everyone was giving it their top effort all of the time once they knew their main goal of winning a NC was no longer a real possibility.

I remember when ND never got blown out and competed for NCs every year, too. Then I remember Bob Davie & Tyrone Willingham & thank God Almighty that we have Charlie Weis. Just curious but who do you think would do a better job? After the Davieham debacles, I'm convinced that the ND coach must (a) be an ND alum or (b) the ND job is the absolute dream job of said coach (ala, Lou Holtz). I say this b/c ND is past the era where it can recruit itself. No high school all-american remembers 1993, much less 1988, when ND last competed or won a national championship.

Just curious but who do you think would do a better job? plus a few extra 3) Played here and coached here 4) Head Coaching Experience 5) Built a program from bottom up

So, everyone is willing to give Charlie a pass if the Irish win only 7 games this year because of the excuse that recruiting so bad for year the years of Ty. Must you must admitted last year was a dissappointment

Quick question: Who do you think could have done better as coach at ND these last couple of years?

If you can't stand lean years then you should have gottten rid of Davieham sooner. You look back on Devine, Ara, and he like. But did their predecessors leave a talent pool as low as what CW inherited? I don't think so. The people we did have with some talent were milked for all they were worth. We should have won a NC last year?!? You can't be serious? Brady was well worth it, but Shark and many others were not heavily recruited. The O-line was a constant source of frustration and the defense was always trying to adjust and held on by the skin of their teeth most of the time. NOW, those who came back are playing with freshmen and sophmores with little to no college game experience and after 1 game into the third year of a major rebuild project that has seen recruiting improve unbelievably, you are whining about a 7 win season being unacceptable?

I am always annoyed by fans like you who expect the world at the drop of a hat. I am still reserving judgement on CW as a coach until after at least year 4, but at the very least, the talent pool is improving and there is hope on the horizon.

I also hope that the kids we bring in will continue to be a source of Irish Pride and not trn into the Cincinnati Bengals like some other programs. I hate seeing Genreral Studies 5th year seniors. I'll take a perenially very good team versus one that sells their soul for a NC anytime.

No, I'm not saying the whole team did or even that any one player did al of the time, but at tmes there were instances that it looked as though some of the veterans at times were just going through the motions and I know I wasn't the only one that noticed this.
