I have been to one NDCOC event and I was less than impressed. I found a lot of the people weren't very welcoming to people they didn't already know. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I didn't really have a great time.
I would love to do something in South OC. I can't make it for the Rice game this Saturday, but I would love to do any of the other games. OC Tavern in San Clemente is a very Irish friendly bar, but somewhere in Mission Viejo is okay too. I am in Ladera Ranch, so anything works for me.
Let me know if one of the other games will work.
GO IRISH... Do you know if the NDCOC breaks up its locations by age group? They do that in Phoenix/Scottsdale to try and make one "Family Friendly" and the other a hedonistic boozathon for the younger set... Normally, I go for the latter but the older crowd watches and listens to the game and can talk about former players older than Jimmy Clausen... while still slinging enough profanity at the officials to make you feel at home.
I suspect something like that has to be at play in OC if the 2 game watch locations are 8 miles apart, though they don't designate it on their website like AZ does.
Which location did you go to? Newport or Fountain Valley? Besides being unfriendly... was it a mix of ages or predominately one or the other?
I'll be back and forth this season a bit. I'll be in AZ for
them and Purdue... then back here for Syracuse and Stanford if I don't go to SB for the game... after that who knows.
Thought I'd try and arrange something local as I cannot sit at home alone and yell at a TV. Makes me feel institutionalized. I have noticed the vast majority of IE members who have commented on the game day ritual thread stay at home. Maybe its a IE message board thing.(?) Not for me.
I'd definitely be up for meeting up at the OC Tavern for a game next month. Maybe some of the other OC guys will chime in and join.
