In the SBT today, Ian was quoted for saying, "ND got outschemed." CW did not like what Williams said that and fired back with this remark, "“And from what I understand, Kyle McCarthy's answer was quite different. He said it had nothing to do with the scheme. So there's a reason one guy's a captain and one guy's not.”

I think CW knows his players are getting a little bit upset with the coaches and CW will start feeling the heat not just from the media but from his players as well..

What do you guys and gals think?

I like Ian, but he should keep his mouth shut and not throw the coaches under the bus.

I'm sort torn between this......for 1..this should of been kept in house...2...It just shows that some of his players "I think" are getting fed up too..

I don't think this a big deal but it was still an idiotic thing for a coach to say. Tell the truth, if you were Ian Williams, you would be stewing and thinking "Well fuck you too".

I think Weis beat him to the punch with that one. His response to Ian's comment was pretty much an "eff you"

Charlie's statement is four words too short: "...on this football team.", should have been the continuation. Too bad Ian tells the truth. Who knows how many other players feel the same way. Certainly most fans do.

Here is Ian Williams' actual quote:

After the game, nose guard Ian Williams said, "Navy outschemed us and they just played harder."

If some asshat reporter blindsided Weis with "Ian Williams was quoted as saying that ND got outschemed by Navy, what do you think of that?", then I can understand his response.

the player shouldnt say that, first and foremost he should be quiet and work hard.

the coach however cant give that bs thats why this guy is a captain and this guy is not. thats bs, that is a complete travesty, should be saying i will deal with that later and then DEAL WITH IT. however i am sure he made his little slick comment and then did nothing.

“They knew what we were trying to attack, where we going to try to attack them, because we had the same gameplan as last year and they had some wrinkles for it,” Irish linebacker Brian Smith said, “and so they were able to have some success with the fullback.” -SBT

“I really hope this doesn't come across wrong,” Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said, “but I think the thing that helped us this year was last year, because we knew they'd line up the same way.” -SBT

"Translation: Notre Dame employed the same type of defense it did in last year's 27-21 victory, and Navy was expecting it." -SBT Eric Hansen

well it sure sounds like they out-schemed us. adapting and adding new wrinkles. it is pretty easy to execute if you know whats coming.

Ian Williams quote sounds like frustration, but he isn't alone. B Smith said something similar. Weis' quote was completely out of line. This is not the first time he has thrown the team under the bus. He talks of accountability, says it starts with him. Then continues to cite individuals on the team. Cant have it both ways.

There was a quote form earlier in the week from Tenuta. I cant find it but it basically was something like i know the optopn, i can stop it, its nothing new. That really gets me mad when you see how Navy gashed us

I don't think Ian should have said that, but can you really blame him? He works his butt off in practice and trusts the coaches to put together the right schemes to have them win the game and Tenuta certainly did nothing of the sort. His frustration got the best of him and it makes you wonder who else on the team feels the same way...

He played well during the game and didn't hesitate to call out his coach and the team effort after the game. Wonder if he called his team out DURING the game?

I have a couple thoughts here. One, Ian was just a frustrated young man who had just lost a game to an inferior opponent. He let his emotions get the best of him in making his comment. Charlie should simply address him behind closed doors about being cautious in what he says. Nothing more.

As for what Charlie said in his press conference, "that is why one is a captain and the other is not". That is the BULLSHIT statement. As a coach, you NEVER, NEVER throw a player under the bus. He did just that because this kid made a statement that might show some vulnerability of CW and his staff.

Further, if you go back and watch the defensive play, Ian is one of the few who had a decent game. He was giving good effort and making plays.

Finally, if I notice that Ian is not starting or playing as much this week that will be the end of any support I have ever given CW. I have been a huge supporter of CW's, but lost some respect for the man after his poor statement this week.

Man up Charlie, you are the Head Coach and Leader of this team!!

"Navy outschemed us and they just played harder." This is the quote? I have always despised someone that always complains about someone else shortcomings while being silent in regards to their own. This did not happen here, "They just played harder", Ian takes responsibility with that remark, as he played in the game and as none of the coaches played in the game. He also remarked first, they were out schemed. Indicating some of the blame lies with the defensive scheme. Is there anyone that would disagree with this? Do we now become offended by someone stating the obvious. Particularly, after a game, it sounds to me like he was just trying to be sportsmanlike and give Navy credit. This is "Much ado about nothing"

Ian shouldn't say stuff like that and Charlie reacted poorly, both acted emotionally, which they shouldn't...but sometimes thats easier said then done, not wise on either side.

I don't see what the problem is with a player, any player, giving his honest opinion of why a team lost. Saying they "outschemed" and "played harder" is not something that is really calling out the coaches, in my opinion. It's just an answer to the question of "what happened out there?" Williams didn't name anyone or say anything like Peyton Manning used to when he'd blame his oline or "idiot kicker." Saying you were "outschemed" is just like saying, "they had a good game plan and we didn't react effectively to it." The coaches need to get over themselves. Everyone in America and all the fleets all over the world knew the what offense was coming, and you still couldn't stop it. Ego kills relationships. Weis should have stowed his ego.
